In over fifty years I've never lost a set of keys, until yesterday! After retracing my steps, searching my truck repeatedly and rooting thru garbage cans I finally headed over to WH Lock. When I reached the door they were just locking up for the day and the associate said I'd have to come back tomorrow. Tom who I've worked with on mutiple properties, commercial and residential over the last twenty years, walked over and directed the other to get a couple of blanks ready. Tom recognized that a twenty plus years business relationship with me was worth staying open for just 5 more minutes. Ok - they are not cheap. Know this going into it and you will not be disappointed. When you want to buy a car that will be reliable and live up to your expectations, you select a car with a great reputation. I would put these folks in that category. They have a great reputation, but they are one of the more expensive locksmiths around. I have on a number of occasions called them in the early morning for re-keying or general help with lock related issues and they have frequently had my issue entirely resolved by noon. If you have good locks to begin with, meaning - not cheap door knobs like you purchase in a 4 pack at a hardware store, they can disassemble and repair them on the spot. I am a security conscious person I like high quality locksets.. these guys are great for that. Where are they? West Hartford Lock is not in West Hartford. This business is located on the Hartford side of Prospect, near the corner of Park and Prospect. They know cool locksmith tricks. They can key all the locks to your master key, and if you want locks with the different keys for everyone but mastered to yours. Not a problem. read more

Needed repair or replacement of an old door lock. Called WH Lock and someone came out the next day. Locksmith/technician said lock could not be repaired, would have to be replaced with new lock. He took measurements and said he'd have to order a new lock and would call the following week. Did not hear from him the following week. I waited nearly two weeks and then called the WH Lock business and they had no memory of my original call, and had no idea about the clients this locksmith had dealt with. How could they not know who they send out on appointments? So I then called the locksmith directly -- he had no memory of having been at my house. After that I called a different locksmith business, the technician came out right away, was able to repair the lock. The WH Lock technician said it needed to be replaced which would have cost me lots more $$$. Will not call WH Lock again - no one at the business knows who goes out on appointments, the technician doesn't remember appointments, and said it was necessary to spend more money to replace the lock instead of fixing it. read more

My neighbor recommended them to me after an issue which she had a few months ago with one of her own locks not working properly on one of her garage doors. My issue was a little different then hers.I needed 2 spare copies for a key I've been trying to successful duplicate for the past few weeks but with no luck. ( For any thieves or burglars who might be reading this, I won't say which lock it is -LOL!!) Anyways, I had already gone to Home Depot (twice), but with no luck. I had been over to Walmart, again with no luck. Then I just kind of forgot about the whole issue since it wasn't really an urgent matter like a house or car lock. Oops, I guess I just slipped up and gave everyone a hint anyways! So I tried West Hartford Locks and finally, after this now being the 4th attempt I have a key that finally works! At first I thought I might have to replace the entire lock and all its parts if I couldn't successfully make a copy of the original key. However the guys there reassured me this wasn't necessary and to just try their key copies. If they didn't work they would return a full refund, not that it ended up costing a significant amount money anyways. But it was still good customer service anyways to stand behind your products. They may not be the cheapest in town but you will receive too quality products and services. Honest, local business and I highly recommend, I needed to replace a broken dead bolt and they fixed it rather than replacing it. Their feedback was the lock I had was high quality and it was cheaper and better to just repair. This is the type of service you just cannot get at big box stores. read more

Resolved an issue with a locked furniture drawer, I had lost the key. Arrived at my home within one hour of my call and unlocked the drawer. Professional & polite. Reasonable expense. It does pay to patronize established local companies. Earlier in the week I had contacted a local "franchise" locksmith. The tech the hooked me up with was could not find my residence. He was located in Indiana! Two follow up calls with very poor communication skills confirmed a second appointment then a no show without follow up. read more

I just moved to West Hartford and I went here to make copies of keys to my apartment. The first time I went the man who helped me was very nice and efficient and suggested that two of the keys I was copying might be the same one so he told me to check. After I checked them out it turned out that they were in fact different so I went back to get a copy of the last one I needed. When I went back I noticed a sign that said something like "Minimum charge to credit cards $5". I didn't have any cash so when the man came out (same one as the first time, probably the owner) I asked if I could charge the key to my debit card (seeing as how the sign only referred to credit cards and I wanted to double check) and the man seemed really annoyed by this and was not very nice in answering my question. The fact that I couldn't use my card didn't bother me, I understood and just said that I would come back later when I had more cash but he also added, very rudely, that he thought the chances of my key copying were "slim to none" because the first copy had been made at home depot. (He clearly really hates Home Depot because he complained about my copies being made there the first time I went in too, although not as rudely has he did the second time). I used to work at an independent store and all I can say is if you don't have good customer service you shouldn't be in business. So next time I will support someone who is a little bit more pleasant. read more

If you want a key cut that actually works, go to West Hartford Lock. So far, every key that I've had made here works beautifully. It is more expensive than comparable places, but it's well worth the extra money. Ultimately, the aggravation saved from having to have keys repeatedly cut to get one working set is worth far more than the extra few cents you may pay. Absolutely shithole of a place. Fine for making a key or some easy remedial task, but anything requiring actual thought or effort these guys are not the guys to do it. Disorganized, clueless, will tell you anything and everything to blame someone else, will lie repeatedly and still do shit work. Then, will charge you a ton for it. I brought in a non-working door lock and a dead bolt lock expecting to need to replace them and possibly a third one still at home. Turned out that the door lock just needed to be lubed with silicone (I had used a dry lube that didn't penetrate properly) and the deadbolt had an easily replaceable broken part on the inside. So instead of more than $200, I spent about $3. Then the owner who was helping me, voluntarily gave me instruction on how to reinstall them. As I reinstalled them I realized without his instruction there was a good chance I would not have done it correctly. I couldn't have asked for more honesty or better customer service! They are always my got to for locks and keys. read more
