It's been almost three years now, so it's about time I update my review on Lori the Great. As discussed in my previous review, I have been seeing Lori for my botox and over the past year have expanded to include other injectables as well as laser treatments and have been using Dr. Ruff's own personal line of skin care projects. I really love this practice. Lori continues to perfect her craft of giving me botox and making me not look like Melanie Griffith but rather a well rested and fabulous 33 year old. At my request, she has made suggestions for some RX creams that I use and has worked with me to stay within my budget. Extremely happy with results. In January of 2015 I had invasive Mohs surgery to remove skin cancer, a cancer first noticed by Lori that my dermatologist missed. I have received treatments on the scar, including laser and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatments so now the scar is barely noticeable. If you have a scar that needs to removal or lightening, give Lori a shout and she'll fix you up. I've also met with Dr. Ruff for a breast aug but will hold off for personal reasons. The environment here is lovely, clean, and fun. Cody works the front desk and keeps things organized. I've never had a double booked appointment, missed appointment, etc and he's quick on the phone to book me. I am so happy I followed Bonnie from Hela Spa to her new office. Bonnie is the real deal. She is so knowledgeable and passionate about skin care. Every time I have an issue with my skin, I make an appointment and she knows just what to do. This last time that I went in, she recommended we do a new treatment called clear and brilliant. I was red for a couple of hours but my skin has never looked better! I had my treatment 5 days ago and my skin has never looked more smooth and this clear! I went for a consult and quote for hi-def liposuction. Dr. Ruff and Kim Neal, his patient care coordinator were incredibly helpful. They were compassionate, caring, and honest in their assessment. Their quote for treatment was competitive and it's worth the small cost to pay for the consult. After talking to many surgeons, I learned its better to pay a consultation fee that goes toward your treatment if you move forward, and as a result get Dr's full attention rather than go for a free consult and be treated like one of many dimes per dozen they consult with. I even went back for a follow up when I got what turned out to be not-so-good advice from another Dr. I felt that Kim and Dr. Ruff were happy to help and treated me like a human rather than an opportunity. At the end of the day I decided to go in a different direction but Dr. Ruff would have been my guy if I wanted to continue with my original intent. read more

If you love your face (you only get one) don't go anywhere else in DC for your IPL or Botox. Yes, you're going to pay more (much more) than you would for the same services on Groupon for some medispa but... see my first line. What did I just say? You're going to get what you pay for! I've waited over 6 months to post because I wanted my results to be A+ before giving them a full review. IPL: After 6 months of monthly IPL my rosacea has gone from violent, violent red to almost-gone (we're still working on it) but Lori is *amazing* (thanks for dealing with my non-stop string of expletives during IPL, Lori). She really helped me understand my skin, took the time to go through every single ingredient in my skincare routine and told me what to get rid of and what to keep using--and it's working! Botox: This was my first time getting any kind of injections in my face. I wanted to iron out the deep creases across my forehead--but I also didn't want to look completely frozen. Dr. Ruff didn't just do an incredible job--he made my face symmetrical. Looking at the before and after pictures I was *stunned* - I had never even noticed my face *wasn't* symmetrical. The effects wore off relatively quickly so, for the cost, I will likely only get it again a month or so before my wedding and not make it a regular thing, but if you can afford it and want to look your best, that's the way to go. Facilities & Staff: They just finished remodeling and the place has a really comfortable vibe without the sterile feeling of a doctor's office or the overly-stylish try-hard of a spa. Had a great experience here with Dr. Cohen, who is professional, honest and trustworthy. I went in for a consultation with regarding a liquid nose job and Botox touch up. He listened to all my concerns, asked questions and (most importantly IMO) was focused on a natural outcome for my face! Because of that, we needed up NOT doing any touch ups. He could've taken my money and filled me up even though I didn't need it, but he didn't. He suggested I wait a few more months and come back. Dr. Ruff has a very kind presence. I have been coming here for acne scar revision and the results have been amazing. I have had an array of dermal fillers and the greatest results I have seen have come from microneedling with PRP. Highly recommended to anyone with pitted scaring and uneven tone/texture. read more

I went to West End Plastic Surgery for chin liposuction in the spring of 2018. Dr. Ruff was my surgeon. It's been just shy of a year and I still have not seen any meaningful result. I still have a double chin and now the fat under my chin looks slightly uneven and I have these weird bubbles behind my ear where the lipo was done. I think the doctor should have been more forthcoming about expectations so that I could've made an educated decision. Instead, I spent $18K with nothing to show for it. Who even charges $18,000 for chin lipo??! Dr Ruff does, I suppose. Buyers, do your due diligence and avoid this cosmetic office. read more

I have gone to West End, in Particular , Norah Claire Gourlay on several occasions. Norah is always great to deal with, she always assesses my skin, let me know what is the newest/cutting edge in skin care treatments, and always listens to whatever concerns I may have. Unlike some practitioners, she actually uses/performs many of the recommended treatments on herself, so I know in this case she "practices what she preaches". She also always let me know exactly how much any procedure will cost before she does it, so there is not post-treatment"sticker shock"- which has happened at other places where they were not up-front about their prices. She is polite, professional, and a lovely person. I am a repeat customer/client, and if you see her, I guarantee after only one visit, you will be, too. read more

Dr. Ruff is an extremely patient, practical, caring, and talented surgeon. I had j-plasma treatments for face and body. The facial j-plasma recovery was really difficult, which I expected from what they told me, but it was quite a bit harder than I realized. The results were nice. Other than that I've just had fillers and botox at the clinic, and they were well done. The front desk and administrative staff are very nice and professional. read more

I would not recommend this practice. I should also note that I drove 5 hours because I was serious about my procedure. 1. I called and set my apppointment ($150 credit card on file for consult) they were suppose to send me info with my appointment details and info on how to access the patient portal to sign off on some forms and provide medical history. A few days went by and I didn't get an email so I called the office and informed them that I didn't receive the email. I got the email as soon as I got off the phone with them. I didn't think much of it because I have worked in the health field and know how busy it can be and maybe it's just a small oversight, so I didn't hold it against them. I had a good consult with Dr. Ruff for breast augmentation. He was friendly, easy to talk to,very knowledgeable and understanding as to what I wanted and had a few options for me to choose from. However, we did not do any fitting but he did have me go for the 3D imaging. I had asked to see a portfolio of before and after for people close to my size that he had done and I was told his assistant would be able to help me with that however, I never did see any pics. 2. I was then sent to talk to the coordinator about costs. We gave her info about possible dates for surgery and she was also helpful in this. She then walked us to check out for our consult fee to be processed. 3. At the checkout I told the lady that I was supposed to see pics and that I was told I would see the 3D imaging to get an idea of what my result could possibly look like after surgery. They informed me that I would get that information by email. As of today I have not received any emails. For $150 consult fee I should of at least gotten to see a portfolio and the 3D imaging that they advertise without having to follow up with them to get it done, I shouldn't have to call them. 4. I opted for another plastic surgeon in DC instead. His staff was extremely helpful and has been in touch with me to this day. They have gone through with everything they said they would without me having to contact them. I can see now why there is a difference in ratings on www.vitals.com between the doctor I opted for and for Dr. Ruff. The doctor I opted for instead of Dr. Ruff has 5.0 stars rating and Dr. Ruff has 3.4 stars, sadly I think it's a reflection of the office and not his skills. read more

After a year of teaching with a mask on, my forehead wrinkles were out of control. I'd never had Botox before but did my research and decided it was worth a try. If you're considering Botox in DC, definitely go see Norah at West End. She was knowledgeable, personable, and made sure all my questions were answered before she began. It was absolutely painless and over in about 5 minutes. The price per unit here is a little higher than places outside of DC, but I would say it is absolutely worth it. I will start by saying that Dr. Ruff deserves these 5 stars. After getting married I gained some love weight. By love weight I mean I went from 145lbs to 225lbs. Needless to say I had a huge stomach. My self confidence was hit hard since my whole life I was pretty slim. I expressed my concern to my primary doctor and he referred me to Dr. Ruff. I was very nervous since I had never had any other surgery. I went in for my consultation with Dr. Ruff and immediately felt very comfortable. He is very knowledgeable and his staff is great. They are like a family. After my consultation I made my appointment to get liposuction on my mid section and flanks. I am a full time student so I was a little concerned about recovery. I did not want to miss school so I had the procedure done during spring break. The procedure was completed right in the office and I ended up getting a room at the hotel across the street for my follow up the next day. The whole experience was very seamless. I came in with reasonable expectations of results but I have been blown away. It has now been about 4 months after the procedure and I have lost over 50 lbs. (still losing weight). My waist shrunk from a 38 to a 32 and 32 is a little big. My body couture is amazing. I see muscles I haven't seen in a while. Everybody is amazed at how great I look. They even say they can notice it in my face and arms. I always respond I didn't have anything done there. lol. Needless to say the procedure was SUPER worth it. I haven't really been exercising as I should but I do watch what I eat now. I am writing this because if you are thinking about getting liposuction done then definitely go see Dr. Ruff for a consultation. He is the BEST! I have never in my life met 3 individuals with such bleak but bitchy personalities at the same time. Funny thing happened to me... the other day I was eating at Fiola and two girls were eating at the table beside me and complaining about the front desk staff of Ruff Plastic Surgery it was HILARIOUS. Thanks god I just finished my last Groupon appointment in this place because Customer Service SUCKSSSS! Super ridiculous fact- I received a call to confirm my appointment and I wanted to change it but they said that I had to call back to change the appointment. Below is an excerpt from my blog, and my reasons for selecting Dr. Ruff. After both my surgeries, I would recommend him in a heartbeat. A while back, over a year ago, I think... I went to go see three plastic surgeons for my excess skin issues. All three doctors had different methods, but said just about the same thing... I need a full body lift. In addition to that, I want to get the skin under my arms and inner thighs fixed. The first doctor I went to just because my insurance took him, I don't even remember his name. I did some research on him afterwards and I didn't like some of his reviews, so I decided against him. #2 was Dr. Mark Richards. This is the man that did all plastic surgery for Linda Tripp. He also created the underarm surgery where the scar is in your arm pit. His methods are to do the surgery in parts. It would take about a year and a half to do all the surgeries. Front & thighs, back, then arms. His surgery was also done in a clinic, and not in a hospital. He was also the most expensive one, but by breaking up the surgeries, you had more time to save in between them. #3 was Dr. Ruff. He is voted one of top doctors in D.C. all the time. His method includes doing one surgery. He also didn't think I needed the inner thigh, as when I do the abdominoplasty, it will pull up my inner thighs to where I won't need surgery. He didn't think that Dr. Richards arm pit scar surgery would be beneficial to me. He said he could do it, but I wouldn't like the results. He was a bit cheaper than Dr. Richards but not enough to sway me one way or the other. With both doctors I asked about babies... I haven't had them yet, but obviously want them soon. Both doctors agree there is no need to wait after surgery. My aunt, the doctor, and her husband, the plastic surgeon agreed. They even said I should do it before even thinking of having kids. They both also said I'm carrying around about 25-30lbs of excess skin. Holy Pooh. *Note: My aunt and uncle are in Venezuela. My uncle does not specialize in the surgery I am looking for. I did get information from another doctor there, but he said he would do the surgery in parts as well. I can't be in Venezuela for two years. Shep and work may not like that idea! What really made me go towards Dr. Ruff was that I liked his ideas on surgery. He not only told me what he thought I needed and why, but he was the only doctor to include a diet and exercise plan as part of the surgery. High protein diet before and after to help the healing process. Exercise begins the day after surgery. He said I should be back at my gym normal routine in 4-6 weeks. Surgery would be one day, instead of spanning a year and a half. Also, he explains everything. He tells you why and how. He's so personable, and I felt safe, and confident in his abilities. read more

Gotta say...that based on comments on the Groupon site for this place, I may have had an atypical experience. I think it's because I called this place almost immediately after getting my Groupon....so I probably got my appointments in before most others. I had low wait team in making appointments and waiting room area time. My treatment has been an unbelievable success so far and the staff have been adequately nice. ________ SERVICE My first time going for an initial consultation, the waitstaff treated me like they were on a workstudy program. They chatted with each other and seemed to neglect the customers. However, they hired new staff to accommodate the booming business from Groupon and the new staff are bomb diggity. The person that treated me is super nice, matched my level of chattiness so that I would feel comfortable, and continuously asked if I was okay. She also gave me her individual contact information and has been easy to contact after the session. This place was easy to contact and everyone (sans a couple girls at the front desk during my initial visit) is super friendly and patient. ___________ TREATMENT I had laser hair removal service. I had previously tried another laser hair removal service, and while that service helped a little, in retrospect I think they just tried to get my money. I actually think this place hurts you less in the treatment. I also have had AMAZING results. The other places stopped showing me results after my first treatment and this place helped me remove more hair than all of my previous treatments combined. Like the other hair-removal service, the treatment was pretty quick. Unlike the other hair removal place, the laser process was very unexpected. The first laser removal place I tried felt like a microphone slowly moving over a lubed up area....kind of like what doctors do to get sonograms for pregnant ladies. Here, I felt like this laser clamped your skin, like a hand squeezing patches of skin inside a clenched fist, thereby pulling in your skin closer to the laser. It's a weird feeling, but it DOES NOT HURT as much as the other place I mentioned. The other place felt like a laser shooting little fireballs to your hair roots. This place feels like pinches to a wide area of skin as opposed to normal tiny pinches between two fingers. _________ LOCATION Clean-looking, next to a Trader Joe's on a busy corner between Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, and Dupont. I started going to West End last year to discuss treatments for rosacea and other general skin concerns. I didn't know much about how to take care of my skin until just a few years ago and I wanted to learn more and starting making up for that. Kelly has been great. I tend to ask A LOT of questions because I want to completely understand things and she takes the time to answer and make suggestions based on my concerns and my skin type. At this point, I've tried a few different things (including IPL for the rosacea and a few facials to help with the blackheads on my nose that I honestly thought were just fused with my skin at this point - seriously, nothing that I'd ever done before had worked on those blackheads). I like knowing that I'm doing something positive for my skin and hope that Kelly and I can continue to work together to improve and maintain my results. read more

I started going here when Ruff Plastic Surgery was still called The Metropolitan Institute of Plastic Surgery, for the Groupon laser hair removal deal. My first actual lasering appointment (not the consultation) was in December. At that time, I had to wait 45 min to get into my appointment and the laser technician seemed a bit frazzled. I was getting my bikini line lasered, and they had none of those paper panties. I was wearing boy-shorts, so I ended up having to awkwardly scrunch up my underwear with my hands so that the tech could get the laser where it was supposed to be--I wasn't about to just whip off my undies lol. Anyway, the second time I went was after the office was renamed to Ruff Plastic Surgery. Much to my relief, they're still honoring the Groupons. The second appointment went much better than the first! I was called back within 5-10 min of arriving, the tech was friendly and competent, they actually had those little paper panties this time, and it hurt LESS than the first time, despite the intensity being ramped up a notch. So overall, I'm happy with my experience so far. At least I never had any mixups with my appointment times or anything. Hopefully my remaining four visits will be as good as the second one. read more

I would recommend West End Plastic Surgery for all your cosmetic needs. I initially touched based with Amanda Bader, Patient Care Coordinator. She proved to be very knowledgeable and was available throughout my experience. She took my calls immediately and made sure my questions were answered. My surgeon, Dr. Wang, is so talented and knowledgeable. I was concerned that I would not look like me after my facelift. She assured me that would not be the case. Her skill in the latest surgical techniques rolled back the clocks of time for me. I look like I did 10-15 years ago! Friends can't put their finger on what has change and have asked if I lost weight or come back from vacation. I giggle inside as I no longer have those deep hollows under my eyes, the jowls, or the ugly turkey neck. It was a Tuesday with a winter storm advisory when we called the office after my son had fallen and needed emergency stitches. The office worked with us to be seen within an 1hr for a consult with Dr PATRICK who came in early to see us. The dr and the assistant Christina were very friendly and calming which was needed for emergency stitches on a 4 year old. The whole procedure was done within 45 minutes and we were out. The office's friendliness, flexibility in fitting us in for the emergency and efficiency in being seen really helped calm us traumatized parents, and my son was happy too. Although I'm only four days post op, my decision to go with Dr. Ramineni was only after reviewing his extensive experience and not to mention his amazing team that both always accommodated my numerous clarification request for the various procedures I was having! Stop. Your. Search. This office is absolutely AMAZING! I was in desperate need of someone to help me with my milia. It was getting worse and worse. I read the reviews and knew I had to see Bonnie. The reviews are spot on. She knows exactly what she is doing, and does it extremely well. She did an extraction facial and my face is CLEAR! No red spots, no marks, I walked out with a clean beautiful face! How the hell did she do all those extractions and then... boom... smooth healthy skin!? Mind. Blown. I will follow her to the ends of the earth. I will update this post after I get a 'light' botox treatment from Christy who Bonnie recommends 100%.
