I called ahead of time because one of my dip powder manicure nails had started lifting and wanted to know if they could fix it and how much it would cost. I was told they'd need to see it first, which was understandable. Since the salon is a few blocks away, I walked over. Although, I was greeted, I didn't feel particularly welcomed or that accommodating once I explained I was the person who had called. There were no other customers in the salon yet the interaction felt rushed, as if my presence was an inconvenience. The lady looked at my nail, took out super glue (I kid you not!) and applied it underneath the lifted nail without even asking me to sit down. I was surprised because I could have done that myself, but I intentionally avoided it because I was concerned about moisture getting trapped underneath and a potential infection. I had hoped she would properly assess the nail and discuss a repair using the appropriate dip powder manicure procedure. I was fully prepared to pay for the service. To make matters worse, the super glue got on my iPhone screen and caused some of my fingers to stick together. I had to carefully separate them and she was aggressive in trying to remove it. I'm still trying to remove the remaining glue from my skin. Thankfully, I had a screen protector that I could replace rather than risk damaging my actual phone screen. Overall, I left feeling disappointed. I had considered returning for future nail appointments because of how conveniently close the salon is, but this experience has made me reconsider. I understand everyone has off days and I don't know whether the person assisting me was the owner or an employee so I don't want to make assumptions. I genuinely want small businesses to succeed and I hope this feedback is taken constructively. A little more care, communication, and customer service would have made a BIG difference. I checked out some of the other reviews, and people had said this was a problem. Even though I too was a groupon person, I had no trouble getting her to make an appointment. Also, she came recommended by a friend of mine who goes to her regularly. So what are the factors that bring my experience down to two stars? I just got a gel manicure. Now gel manicures are supposed to last. It was days before the color started fading at the tips. . Not sure if this is her fault or the quality of the paints she is using, but if I am going to go through the trouble of getting gel polish and getting my nails professionally done then I expect them to last at least a little longer. All of my previous gel polish experiences last at least two weeks and usually result it me peeling them off before they chip or fade away. (Yes, I know I'm not supposed to do that.) Another factor that brings my rating to a "meh - I've had better" is the Location. The shop is in East Village, so sometimes you can find street parking, but if not there are pay lots around. If I'm already paying for services, I don't want to pay for parking too. I know this is just how it is, but it's a little annoyance that builds for me. I could walk too, but I don't live in that neighborhood anymore. The shop itself kind of skeeved me out. It was closed at the time and open just for Alanna's customers.
