With…read morethat being said, this is not my home branch so I am only reviewing based on what I have experience with. This is the nicest of the all the branches I frequent and the newest. They have a huge parking lot and the building itself is huge. This is probably the biggest Y I've been too as well. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful on where to direct me as someone new. The childcare area is very, very big and if you do between 8am-11am busy since this is when all the classes are typically offered. Even though they were busy I didn't feel like it was too much for the people working. They also have a blocked off area for small babies, which I liked since my son was only about 8-10 weeks when we went. The weight room is really large and has plenty of equipment. It's busy every time I've been there, but not over crowded. There are plenty of rooms so they offer the most diverse classes compared to the other Y's in the area. I found the gymnastic to be a bit small and the track was fine, but I think West Carrollton's is designed better because of the natural light from the windows. Like I said, the nicest and biggest Y I've been too, but I find it too crowded for me.

Staff is not very friendly. Most of what they say is "check the app"…read more A week ago when I signed up for the Y, in my packet came a weekly class list. I showed up for a class today at 1 o'clock and no one was there. When I went to the desk, they were kind of dismissive. "If nobody's there it was probably canceled. Did you check the app?" They should know their audience. A lot of people are older and don't want to work apps. And with that being said, why would you hand me a weekly class list that is not correct? I also asked the front desk three times in the week I've belonged, where a class was located. None of them said "oh it's right here or it's right there." Every one of them had to pull up the app or go to the monitor and pull up a class. Shouldn't the front desk know more about what's going on and what classes are being held and where they are in the gym? I don't know. It's kind of souring me.

The staff is very friendly. I've made friends with staff members and fellow exercisers alike. The facility is clean and professionally run. Super disappointed in the lack of understanding and compassion demonstrated by this organization…read morethat claims to promote social responsibility. Typically the YMCA is known to be a helping organization in the community. I did not get this experience. When I called in, the call center girl was nit friendly, did not demonstrate empathy or understanding for what I was explaining. I had started the conversation by asking for the director or a supervisor and the call rep refused. I called back and left a message for the executive director. I then got a call back from someone who was taking the messages for the executive director. The Y at The Heights was unwilling to help me, adding even more stress to my already overwhelming situation. I work full-time, I am a single parent to 3 children and a full-time caregiver to a parent with Alzheimers. Shame of you Y at the Heights. You are not a friend to the community or those who need understanding and compassion. I give this organization, that truly only cares about $$$, zero stars.

The Fairborn Y sits somewhere in the middle. Not new, not dilapidated. The free weight room is a converted racquetball court. The exercise machines are all in great condition, but feel squished together into one smaller room, so that when you are using the chest fly machine, you can feel the breath of the guy on the leg press machine and the grunts of the barbell warrior vibrate in your chest. It is close quarters, but everyone is polite. The locker rooms are located in a back hallway and up a couple steps and I don't know about accessibility options, but it is also tight quarters in the locker rooms, especially the bathrooms. Two stalls are jammed into a corner, so plan your potty visits with time to spare. It definitely gets the job done and you can get a great workout in if you already know what you are doing. But for people new to the gym or to working out, I think they could do a better job of making you feel welcome and making it clear who you can go to for questions if you have them. The front desk folks were friendly, but the three times I have been there so far, the staff member in the weight room is on the computer or their phone and doesn't even look up to acknowledge people who are at the water cooler 3 feet away. I'm not entirely sure they ARE an employee. All in all, it is a solid workout and a fine stop if you find yourself in town. You can't beat the YMCA network and as I travel all over, I am grateful to have a place to get my sweat on.
