Let me assure you what a BLESSING this inpatient hospice house is for Columbus. As someone who travels along the East coast providing hospice care for multiple hospitals/hospice, OhioHealth provides top-notch care! These patients/families are not only made comfortable in a beautiful environment, but they are also provided compassion. Based on some of the reviews, some folks simply do not understand that if a patient is placed in a hospice house--they are dying and hospice appropriate. Most of these patients are experiencing symptoms that were too difficult to manage at home or they are here briefly to give the families 5 days of respite. When/how long the patient lives is between the patient and the universe/God. If clinicians could cure the patient, they would. The majority of these patients have reached the end of what aggressive treatments and medicines can cure/fix--to do more would only prolong suffering. Comfort care becomes the priority! Our job is to make sure they are comfortable and provide education for families. As physicians and nurses, we have medications to assist the patient as they near end of life. Social Workers provide resources. Chaplains provide spiritual support. It's a multifaceted approach to put the patient first. Again, I really do hope Columbus realizes what a rare and special gift Kobacker is to the community--many cities are not so fortunate to have inpatient hospice facilities! Blessings!

The majority of care was done by family with the caregivers providing little more than babysitting services. Our mother experienced a debilitating fall and later a stroke. It was clear that she needed 7x24 professional care but we wanted to keep her safe in her home. We called TheKey and they showed up in force. Within hours, a representative came to assess our needs. An experienced and absolutely wonderful caregiver arrived only a couple hours later. The office staff is available 24hrs/day. Every staffing or care request we've made has been immediately and professionally fulfilled. The caregivers arrive ON TIME, EVERY TIME. No call-offs, no excuses, no drama. They treat our mom and her home with respect. I can't say enough good about the caregivers that we've had. They are professional, caring, patient and extremely well trained.

My husband was admitted to Doctors' Hospital after having seizures and a stroke. He received…read moreexcellent care there, but after a month, he was transferred to unit 3 West at Select Specialty Hospital near Victorian Village. The staff, i.e. nurses, aides, and physical therapy tried really hard to get him better, but after month here he went home to Hospice. Lauren, the case manager, helped coordinate his transfer from here to Hospice at home. A special shout out to Elaine, Mary, and Sean. Thanks from the bottom of my heart! The other staff were great too but I can't remember everyone else's names. The skin therapy team got him a pressure wave bed to help prevent him from getting pressure sores. Even tho my husband was bedridden for a month, he never got a pressure ulcer. The building itself is very old and was a constant source of discomfort. The room had no air conditioning or heat- none, zip, nada. I brought in a small space heater and I was grateful that no one made me take it home. The ancillary staff were wonderful, too. He couldn't swallow, so he was on a thick liquids diet and a tube feeding. He loved chocolate so the dietary staff worked with me to get him thick liquids he would like. They put special boots on him to prevent foot drop. He was bathed regularly and the staff put in and took out his hearing aides. They never lost his hearing aides! Every day they got him out of the bed and into a chair that was specially made for patients who can't sit up on their own. It was uncomfortable at first, but the nurses always gave him his pain medicine an hour before getting him up, so he was able to tolerate it and the change in position was good for his body and lungs. His doctor kept me informed of changes in his care and he even called me on my cell to discuss things if I didn't see him while I was there. This hospital helped him make it home to me in one very good piece! I'm so sorry my husband died, but he went peacefully.

I've always been about taking care of me until I didn't. Being my moms caregiver was extremely hard. She passed on July 9, 2025. Prior to that I had my own health issues and always tried to make my appointment but ended up canceling, missing or rescheduling because of my mom. My doctor for some years left and I ended up with a male doctor who I seen once maybe twice and then I get a letter saying I was basically fired and had to find not a new doctor but go to a whole new Ohio Health for care because I missed and canceled to many appointments. Between my health, my moms emergency calls every other day which was 1 hour away, I had to be there for her. Ohio Health Pickerington never asked about me and what I was going through. My original doctor would and even call to check up on me but she left and I had no notice. So the new team didn't know me and instead kicked me out. I'm still with Ohio Health but a different location. I'll soon be able to have my medications renewed. Its been 2 weeks and they gave me a month but during that time my mom passed and I just didn't remember the deadline to make other arrangements for a new doctor and location. I write this because I had no where else to express how hurt I was to be going through dealing with my mom and then being let go from a whole primary care program. This hurts more then my mom passing. When we finally got her to the hospital she was also dehydrated, malnourished, and had multiple bruises in various stages of healing . If they weren't giving her tube feeding then they weren't giving her medication either which is what probably lead to increased stoke activity Please consider home health care.I wish I had.
