Booking An Appointment Part of the reason consistently taking care of my health is difficult is because navigating websites, setting up accounts, loading information, calling phone numbers, consulting various sources, etc. is mentally exhausting. Serene Smiles makes it SO EASY to book online. Now that I'm a regular, I've also taken advantage of being able to text their number to set or reschedule appointments. I also love that Serene Smiles texts me my appointment information and reminders. It truly couldn't be easier! Your Comfort Is Important Before my very first appointment, I shared during my booking experience that in the past I've had dentists who have grabbed my mouth and roughly poked around without me knowing what they were doing. I shared that my preference is to know what they are doing and why. Serene Smiles exceeded my expectations in every way, first with Sarah as my initial hygienist, and then with Kaitlyn. Both Sarah and Kaitlyn were so kind and patient with me - they explained what they were doing and why, showed me the tools, told me what they were doing, and told me there were some alternatives if I felt discomfort. They consistently asked me if I was comfortable and overall made me feel very cared for. Dr. Zain is also very gentle, and he goes out of his way to explain everything you need to know about your teeth and facial muscles. He also doesn't push unnecessary treatment - he prefers to try less intrusive options and wait to see if there's improvement. After my first appointment was so wonderful, I encouraged my spouse to give them a try, and he has had the same experience. Now I will encourage you to give them a try. You won't regret it!

When I came here, the hygienist unfortunately did a careless job with flossing and didn't floss my teeth towards the back. That was my first warning. I had to order some documents from the front desk and had to constantly insist on reminding them to send me my needed documents in order to transfer me to a different dentist. Upon them finally sending me the documents after months of reminding it was the incorrect documents. I honestly see these people as lazy and do the bare minimum in patient care. Good luck!

The practice have a nice waiting area and the whole staff are pleasant. But from all the dental assistants I had encountered over the years (who polished and flossed my teeth), one in particular stands out! Shout out to Zahar! (I hope I spelled your name correctly). She was the one who assisted Dr. Christine this afternoon. Her hands weren't heavy at all! She's gentle and actually took her time to do her job properly unlike some of the previous DA's I had encountered. They seemed to be always rushing! The upper metal part of the prophy handpiece where the prophy angle cup attaches to either hits several of my lower teeth or my lower lip. So kudos to you, kid! Merci! And last but not least, we also love their wonderful hygienist, Nikoln Dela Paz!

This review reflects my personal experience only, but I feel it's important to share. I went in for…read morea simple routine cleaning with no pain or symptoms. I expected a normal appointment, but I was told I needed deep cleaning, four fillings, and even molar extractions. At checkout, I was suddenly informed that the practice was out-of-network, even though the person who booked my appointment had checked my insurance. This should have been disclosed upfront. I cancelled future appointments because of this. A couple weeks later I felt food getting stuck in one tooth, so I asked for my exam notes and X-rays so I could see an in-network provider. I only received the X-rays -- no clinical exam notes -- which meant I couldn't take that information to another dentist. This made me feel stuck and forced to return. On November 12, I went back for what I believed were simple fillings that I was quoted around $260 for when making an appointment. After I was already numbed and lying in the dental chair under anesthesia, the dentist told me out of nowhere that I now "needed a crown" instead. The billing staff then told me the cost would be around $1,900. I was shocked and confused, especially because I could barely speak clearly due to the anesthesia. When I questioned it, instead of explaining anything medically, I was repeatedly told about payment plans. I sent the billing staff back THREE separate times asking for clarification, but each time I felt more and more pressured. At one point, I was told that because the holidays were coming, the office would be closed for two weeks -- and if I didn't get the crown right now, I might end up with an emergency. Hearing that while numb, unable to fully process, and already anxious made me feel scared and trapped. I did not feel like I was given a real choice in that moment. I ultimately agreed because I was frightened and overwhelmed, not because I was comfortable with the treatment plan. Only after getting off the chair did I notice more concerning things -- the discount I was told about was not honored, the charges were confusing, and none of the explanations made sense. I left the office feeling taken advantage of during a time when I was vulnerable and unable to advocate for myself fully. No patient should ever feel pressured into a costly procedure while under anesthesia. I hope this office truly reevaluates how they communicate, disclose costs, and treat patients who simply want honest information and options.

I had a very disappointing experience with Stone Springs Family Dentistry in Aldie…read more I went in for two crowns, and the dentist, Dr. Grossman, was very rough during the procedures. It made what should have been a routine experience unnecessarily uncomfortable and stressful. On top of that, I was referred out for a root canal to an out-of-network specialist without that being clearly communicated to me. This ended up costing me significantly more than expected. Because of this referral, I quickly exhausted my insurance benefits and was left paying much higher out-of-pocket costs. To make matters worse, when I raised concerns about this, the office was not willing to take responsibility or work toward a resolution. I was still charged an additional $647, which they would not waive despite the circumstances. Overall, this experience was frustrating both from a care standpoint and a financial transparency standpoint. I would strongly encourage others to ask detailed questions about referrals and insurance coverage before proceeding here.

They did tell me that it is out of network, but did say that they think my insurance company will pay about 50% of charges. They took x-rays and did cleaning (by a Hygienist) and exam. It later turned out I had pay over $300 out of pocket. But I felt the cleaning was not good. The Hygienist used a manual tool and I don't think she cleaned thoroughly. I called the practice to let them know and they offered that I can come again and Dr. Tummarello will clean for free. But, it took another 3 weeks for them to slot me in. The prior Dentist whom I was a patient for over 20 years, would ask me when I want to come in if I ever said that I don't think cleaning was good. About 6 months later after the first appointment, I inquired about cleaning and exam and asked how much they charge. They quoted me a price of $238. They also said that they are now accepting my insurance. I called my insurance and they said they are still out of network. A few months later, I needed the cleaning and asked them if I can come in for cleaning and exam. I told them whatever insurance does not pay out of $238 total charge, I will pay. They said the price of $238 they had quoted was for x-rays. The practice said Dr. Tummarrello cannot do a proper exam without x-rays.
