And this dam overlook is no exception. With sweeping views up and down the Columbia River, a trail, interpretive signage, a display of ancient hieroglyphs and even a ginormous dam turbine there is literally something for every dam visitor. With plenty of dam parking, a large dam restroom facility and several lovely places for a dam picnic the Wells overlook is more than just an interesting dam stop - it doubles as a rest area and a place to stretch the ol' legs while driving through the Okanagan.

This review is for the recreation area just off SR 20 as I desperately needed a place to use the bathroom after a very long drive. The Wells Dam serves a source of hydroelectric energy and can pass a flood of over 8,800,000 gallons of water per second! It is also an important project that ensures the safe passage of migrating Salmon and Steelhead through the dams and has a fish ladder that allows them to get to the other side. It also allows scientists to catch some for studying (and maybe eating as well). The Wells Dam project also dedicates its time to hatching/breeding a variety of fish such as land-locked Chinook, White Sturgeon, Trout and Kokanee. It was deserted when we got there on a weekday around noon and there was a nice parking lot, a clean bathroom (hooray!), donated doggie bags for scooping your dog's poop, an impressive view of the dam and the surroundings and lots of signage. A lot of money and thought went into this rest stop for tourists and/or locals frequenting the area. It would be a nice place for a picnic under their pavilions for a quick lunch, a bathroom break in clean non-porta potty toilet, a photo op and a bit of history to help fill your afternoon with memories.

BUT HUGE INCONVENIENCE WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD NOISE: First, the Orchard company nearby (just above the campground) makes noise all day and night!! Then you have the traffic noise of the Highway 2. To finish, you have the train passing by!! You get used to it but really wished it was quieter! WEAR EARPLUGS!! To top it off, it was mowing day, so we had the noise of the tractor mowing grass around where we were the whole day (9:00-4:00pm)!

Everything on the boat was top of the line; Austin was very professional, had productive tactics for catching and was encouraging to every skill level. We couldn't keep the fish out of the boat! Got our limit in record time, and what a treat that the only thing I had to worry about was reeling in the fish. He even cleaned and prepared the salmon so at the end of the day I went home with bags of nicely cut fillets! This was my second trip with Austin's Northwest Adventures and after seeing some of the other's out there I can say with confidence that I will be back and not fish with another guide. HOWEVER, I've never seen rules so ridiculous and overbearing. No tobacco use anywhere in the park, including the day use area. You have to leave the property and stand on the street like some kind of outcast vagrant if you want to enjoy a cigar after hunting all day. There are cameras everywhere and you are being monitored for any possibility of violating one of their many overbearing rules. There is a $100 dollar fine if you use tobacco in the park. The sprinkler system turns on at 4:00am and will soak anything you have in the grass. My chairs were soaked. My trailer was also getting hit at 4:00 am even though we were completely on the pad. You cannot put anything on the grass - not even a rug for wiping your feet after hunting all day. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PARK if you enjoy sleep, tobacco, or privacy!

Has a great walking path and I imagine in the summer this is a hot spot. There is a Store on site, boat, and JetSki and kayak rentals on site. Excellent group camp area. Lots of sport areas as well! Three volleyball nets. Horseshoe pits, Tennis, Pickleball, soccer, and baseball. Excellent group camp area! The camping area looks pretty spacious. RV sites were also spacious. I wasn't impressed with the regular cabins. But the deluxe cabins were right up my alley! Loved that it has a bathroom with sink and shower, as well as a sink, microwave and mini fridge(no freezer) and cupboards to store your food and dishes in. Along with a closet to hang clothes, but bring hangers if you want to hang anything. The queen size futon wasnt very comfortable, but we managed. But the double bunkbeds felt like they had better sleeping mattresses. We stayed warm and dry. They have a heater and air conditioner. If staying in one of the cabins, bring your own bedding, towels and dishes. We will definitely stay there again. It is now on our favorites list and can't wait to go back in mid summer with family. Located right next to Rocky Reach dam. We were able to drive to Leavenworth from here and ride the Alpine coaster and spend the day. We also spent time in Wenatchee. Checked out the Ohme Gardens. And the pybus market then went and ate some wonderful Mexican food at Lafuente! I recommend everything I mentioned above.
