I want to give this park more stars. I really do. It's clean, well maintained and lots of space in between campsites. But the mosquitos...OMG the mosquitos. They were just terrible, and ate us alive. Our best guess as to why they are so bad, is because they are constantly watering the grass. I would prefer dead grass to being part of the nightly buffet. Sadly, we won't be returning.

This was our second state park in WA and it had the feel of an urban park, because of it's proximity to the small city of Wenatchee, the fact that it was surrounded by small manufacturing plants, it's abundance of ball fields, and the bike trail in the park that toured the city. Consistent with Maryhill State Park, Confluence also had a very nice swim area. Whoever designed these parks must have placed swimming as a high priority activity. Both state parks had dug out protected coves that were free of weeds and current. I suppose that if there wasn't a manmade protected cove in these river parks, then any beginner swimmers would be swept downstream. Either way, if someone wanted to get in a few laps in the middle of the state without having to price check all the indoor pools, there are options. The swim areas are quite big so you wouldn't even have to turn around 40 times like you do in a pool to get a full workout. I imagine that if I jumped in the state park swim areas right now, I would have to catch my breath before I even made it to the other side. The only downside to these swim areas is that, unless you have your wetsuit, it will be a cold swim.

I've been camping at Wenatchee State Park since I was a kid. We went every year and I had great memories of the place. So when I decided to take Mitchell there for Memorial Day Weekend this year I hoped the place would live up to my memories. It did. The place is wonderful, really an ideal campground for families, kids and just friends who want to hang out together. The sites are close enough together that you have a couple together with friends but far enough apart that you have some privacy. Our site in particular was nice and clean, and the tent pad area had just been leveled off that day. Our site was #43 which had a view of the lake between the trees. We were within a very short walk of 2 different bathrooms, which is also nice. The bathrooms are kept pretty clean (for camping bathrooms) with showers that cost 50 cents for 3 minutes. The lake was really pretty, with a chilling breeze that rolled across it all times day and night. I remember swimming in the lake when I was a kid and I imagine people still do during the summer months. We talked to the ranger who said all the fishing there now is catch and release so we decided to fish elsewhere. The rangers and camp host are very nice. The camp hosts got quite a kick out of Mitchell losing his wedding ring in the bathroom one night and enjoyed giving it back to him and giving him hell about his wife being mad at him. The ranger can provide all kinds of info about fishing and hiking in the area. For kids there is a playground, and areas to play horseshoe and volleyball. Also all the roads are paved (good for bikes) and too twisty for a car to go over 5 MPH. One of my favorite campgrounds!

One of the best parks in the entire state, but it could use a few minor improvements. All the other reviews are accurate (use GPS! - mosquitoes getting bad) but there is one recommendation I'd make. Put bench seats in the handicapped showers. -They are designed for wheelchairs, not someone with a broken leg. Beside this one issue, it is a great spot with good 3G cell coverage by all 4 major carriers, but no 4G on Clear, great OTA and dish TV reception and access to nearby stores for DVD/Blu-Ray rentals.

The architect of this park was very generous with the space between campsites, and the space for kids to play is outstanding. This campsite is clean, and the people are friendly. The site is beautiful, and it is conveniently located next to everything. The park rangers are very helpful, but they are zealots when it comes to the speed limit throughout the park. I was entertained while talking to a ranger because he became obsessed with cars driving through the camp. He kept uttering, "slow it down, slow it down, slow it down" while cars passed us during our conversation, and I witnessed him pull over a handful of camp patrons. The downside to the camp is the mosquitoes. My kids each had 30+ bites over the two days we stayed. The mosquitoes are terrible all hours of the day. In fact, we conducted a brief quasi research project trying to answer the question, "Do mosquitoes ever sleep?" Our answer is no, not at this park. The mosquitoes will bite morning, noon, and night. We tried Deep Woods Off, the ThermaCELL, and chopsticks. Our conclusion is, when visiting this camp, bring bug shield clothing. These suckers will bite through cotton. They are unrelenting. On the bright side, the continuous buzz in your ear will lull you to sleep...or on the dark side, cause insanity.

Looking south on the Columbia River at the confluence with the Wenatchee River. Lots of bird activity.

Walla Walla Point Park is one of the parks that the Chelan PUD built and maintains. I visited the park at the end of December 2022. There wasn't much to see in the park as everything was covered by about a foot of snow. There are supposed to be 4 softball/soccer fields here when it isn't covered in snow. There are supposed to be tennis and volleyball courts and a lot of green grass. The trail around the park along the river was nice. The trails were all paved. The snow was removed from the trail by the PUD. If you walk far enough, you can get to the Lindston Barn. The parking lot to the park was also cleared of snow. They have a electric car charging station that was free of charge to the public. It is a nice park whether it is summer or winter. The answer to the question above? ZERO! Come visit this park and see what hydro power can do for you.

This review is for the recreation area just off SR 20 as I desperately needed a place to use the bathroom after a very long drive. The Wells Dam serves a source of hydroelectric energy and can pass a flood of over 8,800,000 gallons of water per second! It is also an important project that ensures the safe passage of migrating Salmon and Steelhead through the dams and has a fish ladder that allows them to get to the other side. It also allows scientists to catch some for studying (and maybe eating as well). The Wells Dam project also dedicates its time to hatching/breeding a variety of fish such as land-locked Chinook, White Sturgeon, Trout and Kokanee. It was deserted when we got there on a weekday around noon and there was a nice parking lot, a clean bathroom (hooray!), donated doggie bags for scooping your dog's poop, an impressive view of the dam and the surroundings and lots of signage. A lot of money and thought went into this rest stop for tourists and/or locals frequenting the area. It would be a nice place for a picnic under their pavilions for a quick lunch, a bathroom break in clean non-porta potty toilet, a photo op and a bit of history to help fill your afternoon with memories.

We visited the forest in June when the snow was melting and there were brief rain showers everyday. Most creeks and rivers, especially the Wenatchee River, were overflowing their banks, with river water above the level of green grasses and bushes. The highly variable nature of the rivers made me wonder how difficult it would be for the home owners living just a few feet above their June high water mark. On a Wenatchee River rafting trip, a guide pointed out a high water mark when the river was at record levels during her lifetime. This must've been 10-15 feet above the already high water and would've destroyed many homes. Many of the trails in the National Forest are very long, requiring camping gear to complete the trail. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to complete any of these multiday treks, but I was satisfied with a taste of the trails in the area. The trails were generally quality from the start so I was never worried about only getting in a 3 mile hike if time was limited. Even a 3 mile hike would turn into a good workout because most of the trails had a steep incline. We were essentially stair climbing on many of the trails. It was hard but we also benefited from the incredible views. The views near the Leavenworth area were fruit trees and grapevines on the valley floor, steep pine trees ascending the mountainsides, with snowcapped peaks on the tops of mountains or on mountaintops in the background.
