    Sichuan Fried Chicken Bao
    Doug K.

Some of the best hand pulled noodles I have ever had and at an incredibly reasonable price. Came here on a Friday night around 8pm with some friends and waited about 45 min to an hour to get a seat. The line was relatively long but moved quickly. We grabbed a beer from a neighboring store and drank it in line, which certainly helped pass the time. We started our meal with an appetizer of the Sichuan Fried Chicken Bao as well as the Smashed Cucumber salad. Both were delicious. The portions were large and they were both prepared perfectly. For a main dish I got the Biang Biang Beef noodles and my wife got the Biang Biang Lamb and Cumin noodles. We both went with the 'asian spicy' level of heat. Fair warning - this is truly asian spicy level. If you like very spicy food, go for this level. The noodles were tending, large, flavorful and the serving was quite large. I will say, the lamb in my wife's dish was a little more flavorful than the beef in mine, but both were delicious. Inside it is no frills with a small amount of tables in a small space adjacent to the kitchen. You're not coming here for the ambiance, you're coming for the noodles! I highly, highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for noodles in Berlin.

Obviously did some light research on places I wanted to hit while in Berlin, and Wen Cheng was at the top of the list! Love me some noodles (I'm a noodle over rice girl, sorry not sorry), and these were delicious. Was told that there is often a wait, but around 6 pm we were lucky and there was a single table open for two :) I ordered the Wen Cheng noodles with cumin lamb and thought they were pretty solid. It's reasonable pricing, at 15.50 euros, and the service was great and the food came out quick. I will say that I've had better noodles in NYC and thought these were a bit too thick, but was still very satisfied. Great flavors, and lamb was also very tender and had no gaminess, which in my books is a huge plus.

Overall rating: 4.9 Please note I am American. I know some people like to cast judgment on things we cannot control for where we are born ‍ I absolutely loved this place!! This line was only for outside, which was very hard for me to understand until I realized there's no AC in the restaurant. Silly me. I'd go inside again to avoid a line. I had the beef noodles & tbh, I'd rather have split this with a second person. It was so filling!! I wanted to try other things. I loved Berlin when I visited, and when I come again - I will def be back.

Very tasty biangbiang beef that is incredibly authentic with perfectly handpulled noodles with great firmness and outstanding sauce. The only reason Id subtract one point is the price point. 11.50€ for a small bowl of noodles is just too much. Taste wise it's spot on.

Here we go, the place that needs no introduction, Wen Cheng. Holy smokes this place is amazing. I am surprised that this place has so many google reviews but barely any on Yelp, My USA food directory. So I will hype them on here. First off, you will need to know, most weekdays this place is open for dinner only. Get there sooner rather than later after 5 because the line is no joke. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as take out and they move people a long as quick as possible. When you go in you can see the people pulling the noodles. The menu changes depending on what is fresh that part of year and is short, to the point. Anything you get will be amazing. The Bao is a cloud of delight. We got the Sichuan Fried Chicken Bao which is Buttermilk Chicken, Pickles, Asian cickles, Coriander, Homemade Sichuan Pepper Aioli. Hot garlic chili oil on the noodles will leave you picking up even the drops that slip off the chin. Do not miss this one.

Delicious flavor and presentation. Cooked perfectly, broth could have used a bit more depth in flavor but I rounded it out with a touch of ground pepper. The dumpling with side sauces were absolutely wonderful and nicely prepared. Assortment of meats and vegetables all loaded and steamed to perfection. The entree deserves top billing as it was arranged beautifully which mirrored the delicious flavor of the meat and accompanying vegetables. Loads of flavor, cooked perfectly and married with a nice sauce. The highlight was a glass of champagne offered at the start of the meal. Bubbly, not overly sweet and it was a great way to start the meal. Highly recommended. Beautiful location, very clean and nicely decorated for the holidays.

Like those nice chinese restaurant, no smell of their cooking. I was surprised. Before you raise your eyebrows on my comment, I just want to point out that I have been to those that smells like their food, sometimes its off-putting, sometimes its not. Overall, highly recommend. :)

In terms of food, I'd give them 8.3/10 for the following: - Sweet and Sour pork (fried): 8.5/10: Good flavour and "wok-hei", but some pieces were a bit too dry (not sure if because just slightly too much breading or if the meat were too thin or not tender/fatty enough) - Potatoes, bell peppers, eggplant: 7.8/10: A lot of Eggplant and minimal bell pepper, flavour was okay

So we decided to try it... since we love chinese food. Well there is so much to say. but il get over the good and the bad and there was unfortunately alot more bad than good, if any. Good... well the food "looked" tasty. seeing the others eating there lured us in, especially when u see other chinese. But as a couple who have tried many chinese restaurants. this one ranks as one of the worst chinese restaurant exsperiences we have tried to date. We looked over red flags and are now trying to warn others in regard. Service: 1-5. The service itself was not unique and the male waiter took along time to even notice us. after he did, we waited close to 10 minutes despite us seeing a free table all the time. and then he came back and just used his hand to point to the empty table, leaving us abit uneasy. But we looked over it. we where hungry and lets go. Well, the food came relatively quick. and service was not the worst after we sat down. So we thought. maybe the food is good. Food:1-5. So we ordered what we seemed was the most for the value. R3 (couple menu) for 75€. 6 course dinner with variety 1. cold plate starter. btw not specified whats in it... Redflag. The cold plate was plane boring and disgusting. There was cold small chicken pieces with dangerously crumbling chicken bones you had to spit out unless you wanted a sharp bone in your throat. some edemame beans: eatable. Some oiled up, cold cucumber slices with chili: boring and plane. and some boring cold, dry beef slices. 2. After the dissapointed starter, we gave hope to the next dish 3.Shrimp soup. The only thing decent/eatable, was the shrimp soup, with 4 balls of dough and shrimp. Yet it was kinda tasteless. the texure of the balls was okey, but nothing to scream delicious about. 4. crunchy duck. This one was a dissapointment, Not because of taste, because the taste was actully decent, id even say good. but the amount of food was almost nothing. it was 4 small roled pancakes the size of a big mug underside. and a tiny bit of deepfried duck with some cucumber and oil. Compared to other places u get a whole plate filled with duck, rice and so forth. very greedy with this one. and dint feel like a meal for 2 5. Rice and beef. The last dish was the final straw and what made us leave before even getting desert. The rice first came with this dish. and the rice was fine. but the beef and the sauce was awful, to an exstend i cant believe a restaurant in a city center like Berlin offers. The beef was soft, chewy and socky. It was marinated with this sour and bitter sauce that was overly salty too. It was not eatable to decent peoples mouths standarts. So we decided to call it quits and left. And yes, even even payed for it... even tho we felt robed for 75€ for almost nothing. Most other chinese restaurants, you get more than twice the sizes compared to this one. The worst part was the end. The waiter asked if we wanted it in a goody bag and if we wanted the icecream. we politely said no. But then he had the adaucity to say, and i shit you not... "the Food was good yes? Glad you liked it. So to think the others think we liked it. An we calmly said, No this food isnt good and we are not coming here for along time. This gives off manipulation, lazyness, and we left with a feeling of being robbed and mistreated. Our fault to not see these red flags. hope you read this and take precausion. 6. vanilla icecream. Didnt even bother to try location:2-5. The location is also nothing to scream hurray for. its inside this boring, almost dead mall. right next to a Mc Donalds where other people seemingly sits and eat like they are in the chinese restaurant. but really, its mcdonalds seats mixed in with the restaurant area, It seemed like. They have chinese style wooden chairs and amenities, also okey inside. didnt look alot tho. but i can only give it 2 stars for that. and for the centered location in Berlin that was right next to us. atmosphere:1-5. We unfortunately came in the wrong time at the wrong moment. after we left, there was a group of 20 seemingly other ethnic people. fighting right next to the Mc Donalds and the restaurant, with guards having to interfere. Very messy and you felt unsafe there. So all in all, i wouldnt reccomend going there til they fix their menu or management. they have alooot of improvement to do, if they want any good reviews from decent mouts. Id not reccomend going here as a turist, since they rip unsuspecting visitors off. find another place, i beg you.
