They do not pass out any medication indiscriminately. They do pill counts, drug testing and keep up with current research. The American Medical Association has recently come out in support of pain management at a time when this is a difficult area of medicine to practice. There are many medical conditions that do not respond to alternative pain treatments and sometimes opioid medication becomes necessary for optimal functioning. The current body of research now clearly shows, without any doubt, that pain medication prescription rates and overdose rates have no statistical relationship. None. Zero. Zip. Overdoses resulting in death are almost always a result of illicit opioids like heroin & illegal fentanyl, polysubstance use and occasionally diversion of prescription medication used by someone it was not prescribed to. This is typically a result of poverty, hopelessness, lack of employment opportunities, etc. If we hope to combat overdose rates in our state, we need to start fixing the problem rather than hurting patients in need. Alcohol & tobacco also kill significant numbers of people and our country largely ignores that. I was desperate,…read morehaving tried PT, chiropractic alignments, yoga, Alexander Technique, and more, with no real results. I came to Pain Free right before leaving to go live abroad. Mackie, a specialist here, did an evaluation of general structural imbalances in my posture, then proscribed a series of exercises. It didn't come cheap and felt a lot like PT, so I was skeptical as I left the country. However, within a few days, I noticed a reduction in pain. Months later, I can say for sure that these exercises have made a huge difference in my day-to-day comfort. And for follow-up sessions, Mackie has been very helpful in working with the distance to continue treatment to proscribe new exercises as needed. If you're in pain, give them a try. It worked wonders for me.

She was extremely rude about it, actually yelling at me that I shouldn't be going in there and complaining, and offering no apology at all. I met with Dr. Brian Lee and I was extremely pleased that he took the time to listen to me and understand my chronic pain. I loved that he didn't just jump to having needles being stuck into my spine but rather focused on less invasive methods before doing that. I would first like to say that I am no one special. Just a regular person. I had the misfortune of being in a terrible accident quite a few years ago that led to me having to have an L5-S1 Spinal Fusion. The pain and suffering I experienced from this surgery (and the events leading up to- and after it), was nothing short of devastating. Flash forward- the one, and ONLY good thing to have come from my having to be a Pain Management patient, is Dr. Garland "Bobby" Greene at this practice. He is the most wonderful, kind, caring, and most of all (in my humble opinion), non-judgmental person/doctor I have ever met. He genuinely cares about his patients, and treats me with respect and understanding. His level of kindness is something that most of us should strive for. If we did, the world would be a better place. I am writing this review, because I felt it important to let anyone know, that if you are looking for a Pain Management specialist, you should come see Dr. Greene at the Comfort and Wellness Center. The staff overall is nothing short of wonderful (the current staff that is). Dr. Greene is a wonderful human being, and doesn't treat me, nor judge me, for my current (and probably life-long) condition. He listens when no one else will, he helps when he can, and most of all....HE CARES!! He cares about my well-being. He cares whether or not I am getting better. He cares that my pain is managed. I got signed in quickly, waited for a bit before being called back but was seen by a very cordial nurse first and then a doctor. X-Ray taken & within 10 min the doctor was back to tell/show me where my foot was broken. While we were talking, the system updated with the Radiologist's report. I was in and out of the office within an hour after receiving more service than I thought I went for. Another great UVA Primary Care facility. Thank you! Janice
