1. The atmosphere is amazing, doesn't have the feel of a bar, but an upscale establishment. Very differentiated from the neighboring watering holes. 2. The rooftop is amazing and the deck is also amazing. You can dine downstairs or upstairs with Service, the others. You will have to carry your food and drink to. 3. I ordered the potato cakes and the leek soup. The leek soup could not have been better for my pallet, I liked it a lot. The potato cakes were good but a little pricey. I didn't use the garlic aïoli with a potato cake, just eat them straight up. The garlic aïoli did not add any thing for me. The bread that came with the leek soup had a taste I didn't like, I believe it was the oil that it was browned with. But I still ate it, it wasn't terrible. 4. I met one of the owners and a couple of the servers. Everybody was super nice which I think is very important for the restaurant industry. People want to converse and get to know their bartenders, etc. They did a good job with that. 5. For a place that has been open less than one week, they did a fantastic job. This is a dangerous place for me as I live very very close. 6. By the way, their scotch whiskey selection is very very extensive.

I had the pleasure of a sneak peek at Wells, the new Scottish Pub in Maryville, TN. Invited by owners Alice and Eric, it was incredible to speak to them about the labor of love the building became during extensive planning and renovations to bring the pub's vision to life. What's remarkable is a well preserved brick building from 1887 and after 4" steel reinforced beams from basement to the rooftop bar to secure the building's structural integrity throughout. Also, by adding a brick back patio with a fireplace to battling the historical society's wishes for preservation- this spot has updates while sticking to its old world charm. All the finishes combine to create an atmosphere that takes you back in time with the beautiful updated accents on the ceiling and keeping the vintage exposed brick that is such a great feature throughout. When you step inside you are taken to a Scottish fairytale fit for a king! Eric and his team used wood that might've been discarded and created the booth table tops, for the bar area. The design is the result of a two year process. A great 98" TV in the bar area will be excellent for those Tennessee Saturday nights and NFL Sundays. The fun is just getting started and with the VIP "snug" area that has two small cocktail tables and a prohibition style speakeasy room for a tight-knit group to have complete privacy! This is a fun way to celebrate for those that like to have just their crew in the fold. Going next level the upstairs has a cozy book nook with a window and cool AC. Further up the rooftop is the main attraction as the first rooftop bar in Maryville. Sipping on a scotch and enjoying the cool wind is a great way to relax and unwind after a long day. Chef Andrew has curated a great menu with everything from shepherd's pie with lamb to bangers and mash, crispy wings with asweet scotch whiskey sauce, a pub burger with the fresh bun and garlicky aioli. These are meals that will stick to your ribs and keep you grounded for round 3 of drinks. Offering 16 taps with excellent rotating Edmund's oast Sours, Harp on draft for a black and tan, Einstock, and several ciders. Also honorable mention for Guiness and Belhaven on nitro. All drafts will start as 20 oz for $8 which is reasonable for quality brews. The cocktails will get you into or out of trouble depending on your outlook. An Irish Coffee, Bonnie bramble or Maryville margarita will wake you up from a long day at the office. I prefer the classic old fashioned with Demerara sugar and nice cigar on the back shaded patio. The scotch list is packed to the brim and the prices are comparable to the Gig and Reel in the old city in nearby Knoxville. Overall the vibe is old world without the pretentious atmosphere and the rooftop with beautiful mountain views and a birds eye view of beautiful downtown Maryville.

THis one has a story behind it. Got invited to a drum circle in Gatrlinburg by my girlfriend's son…read more We went out that morning to see Cades Cover (big mistake - it was Memorial Day) and swung back around through Townsend (stopped at Mountain Man to have a craft brew on the way). Knowing we were going up to the arts district, I looked for a place to meet them before the circle and saw there was a Celtic Pub. Only that was the spot where the drum circle was. And, to my surprise, it is the same owner as the Fox & Parrot Tavern in Gatlinburg, one of my favorite English pubs (and currently closed do to a feud with the US government - hope that gets fixed). The place is definitely British country feeling. Very nice tap list, including both local brews and standard UK brews. Heavy wood feeling with a very nice deck outside, which includes some spots under cover (which was important as it rained on the circle and people had to duck in). There is nothing elegant about the place or the food. But that is its charm. The fish & chips were on point, esp. with the malt vinegar. Shepherd's Pie a bit salty for my tastes, but not to the salt lick level. Also came with chips. As for the drum circle, if you are reading this in June 2026, that is every Monday at 6-8 PM through the end of the month. I got some great drone footage of the circle, which I added to this review.

I would never come here if I was in a hurry, but if you have 2+ hours to eat and want good food in a storied place with staff who will treat you like friends, you're going to love the Rampant Lion. NOTES: -In rural TN, it should not surprise you, but be aware that they have Trump displays in the restaurant. -The restrooms are single stall and accessed from outdoor. They're indoor restrooms - just the door to access them is on the outside. (No porta potties) They're solidly clean - just make sure to pack clothing that works for the temperature outside because you might be dipping outside a few times. -Parking lot is small and gravel. Relatively easy to get in and out of though. -Amazing gin selection with staff that *clearly* knows their gins. -Adorable photos of the owners on slideshow of their trip to Europe on the wall. It's adorably and clearly a couple who was on a good vacation. We've had a good chunk of their menu at this point. Pretzels: Delicious beer chese AND delicious pretzels. Quite a bit of food with this too. Bread, Oil, & Vinegar: Wasn't super fond of this one. A ton of oil in a bowl made it hard to get the right oil-to-vinegar ratio. Chicken Pie: Deliciously breaded with super-tasty french fries too. Served piping hot, so it took a bit to be able to eat it without burning myself but a wait well-made. Reuben: Partner absolutely loved it and said the bread was the absolute perfect consistency. SO much meat in there too (though he said it could use a bit of extra dressing). Bubbles and Squeak: Delicious. Just delicious. Zero notes, you should eat it. Beanie Weenies: Home-made right in the restaurant! My favorite thing on the menu. Super savory, semi-healthy (beans...at least?), and served super warm. Comfort food at its finest. Menu in-restaurant was different than online one on a few things.

Double pours! How could that be bad!?‍…read more Jo was tending bar the night I was in town and she was awesome. Noticeably busy but consistently attentive. The bar is situated in a strip mall-type situation in Farragut, so there is plenty of parking. There's a great outdoor patio out front as well. There are a few different rooms in the bar scattered with various activities- shuffleboard, darts, and golf video games, along with an extensive beer and alcohol list. Don't plan to stay on your diet here because I think there are about 3 things on the menu: pretzel bites, wings and pizza. We had the pizza and it was truly amazing. Fun, friendly, Cheers-kinda vibe. I'd come back.

It was fairly busy when I visited, and there was a line to get beer, which isn't a problem. I happen to see a friend of mine waiting in line to get a beer. I walked over to speak with him. We hadn't seen each other in probably five or six years. Another guy cut in line right in front of him before he could get his beer. Then, when it was my friends turn, the bartender (Josh) was less than friendly. I realize that they're just pouring beer, but the gentleman was decidedly unfriendly, he did not smile even once; he did not even indicate that he was ready to take an order in anyway by acknowledging us with a look or anything. Heck, he didn't even speak to us. Honestly, he was just rude & beyond unfriendly. I don't get it. If you do not like your job, get a new one. If you don't like pouring beer for people (which does seem like a super great job), get a different job. The fact that he would be there on what appeared to be a fairly busy night, which is good for the business, and be so unpleasant is beyond my comprehension. So, the beer selection is very eclectic, with something for everyone. It's super great that you can buy beer to go. The female bartender was awesome. I'm conflicted on what sort of review that I should give Admiral pub, because there were so many positive aspects to it, except Josh pretty much ruined the entire experience by his sour demeanor (although I adore sour beers) and persistent scowl.

Cozy Scottish pub. Tasty food, good brew & whisky selection. Live music! Soccer!…read more On a recent roadtrip, we tried out Boyd's Jig & Reel in Knoxville. At midday on a weekday (spring-2026), this warm-feeling comfortable pub was active but not crowded. Of course we had beer-battered fish & chips: tender sweet cod in a not-too-thick crunchy flavorful coating, with fresh greens, onions, and tomatoes. Served with piping-hot thin fries, hand-cut to give a variety of crispier vs. soft bites. You could get that as a small-plate, as a Po'Boy sandwich, or as a main. And we had a bowl of thick rich flavorful creamy chowder. Delicious, satisfying dishes. They had a nice selection of deep crusty savory pies, too. We loved their amazing range of single-malt whiskeys, including some like a smokey softly-fruity Port Askaig that we haven't seen elsewhere. We liked slowly sipping a strongly-peaty young Islay, like 10-year Laphroaig, and Boyd's also had plenty of smoother well-aged pours up and down the price-range. They also had a nice selection of crafts, ales, stouts, ciders, and several Scottish brews. We saw that they have live music almost every evening (not Mondays), with midday music Sat and Sun. Scottish, Irish, bluegrass, old-time, classic country, and more! Next time we have to fit that into our schedule. And fútball (soccer) of course! Boyd's Jig & Reel is a must-visit in the middle of Knoxville!
