Thoroughly enjoyed the gardens Holiday Winter Wonderland! What a fantastic tradition in Elkhart County. It's worth the drive for a family fun experience.

Well-worth the visit! We drove an hour to visit this garden, and we were so happy we did. You can immediately tell that a great deal of thought and care has gone into creating this oasis! They have seating everywhere, making this an excellent place for seniors to visit, as well a wonderful place to bring a book and just read ... after you have toured every inch of the gardens. There is a very well-designed children's area too. Don't miss it if you have the opportunity to visit.

12-21-18. Some of the family and I came to see the light show tonight. It was quite awesome we went around once probably took 45 minutes. Wellfield was packed sure is nice to see that kind of support. It's not cheap $10 per person or five if you are a member like myself. But the money is well worth it even with welch packaging paying for a big chunk of it I don't know of anywhere else in Michiana like this. Go support it every Friday and Saturday it's open for another two weeks. A new family tradition has begun my granddaughter loves it!!

I had a very lovely time at the gardens. It was a nice place to spend a few hours in the afternoon. Lots of reviewers have covered some of the highlights so I wont go into much detail. But the setup was fun, considering social distancing and they still put in effort to make sure it was as carefree as possible. One bummer was that there were two sections of the gardens that were closed down when I was there. It made things seem smaller than they are. Overall, a lovely setting for a stroll on a nice day!

(Updated 10/20/19) This time we visited for the Halloween and trick or treat event and wow! So much for kids to see and do. Parking was still tricky (don't be late to events like this!) but not a huge deal. There were a dozen or so stops for trick or treaters with volunteers passing out candy, Santa on a golf cart, a children's author reading/signing her book, Mr. Deegan was there with his fish for kids to see and touch, Silly Safari educational talks with animals that kids could see and touch, a hot dog vendor, lots and lots of decorations and photo ops, and of course, the grounds themselves were beautiful. I've upped my rating from 3 to 5 stars after giving this place another chance. If you have kids and are looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, give Wellfield Botanical Gardens a try. Even better, check their website for events like this one and have even more fun. We will be back for Christmas lights again this year and already looking forward to it!

This is one of the better botanical gardens I've been to, despite that all of the other botanic gardens I've been to were in much bigger cities. I think that's due in large part to the fact that the garden centers around a large pond, and makes use of more sculptures and non-botanical features/structures than others. Admission is $5/person, and well worth it. If you're going, consider going on a weekend morning or on a weekday to avoid private events. We went on a Saturday afternoon, when three weddings were going on, and wish we'd been able to go a different day since we felt like there were certain areas we didn't really get to see because of the weddings and wedding photography taking place.

Our walk through the gardens was much more pleasant than I anticipated. I have driven past this place for many years and never knew it existed. The natural landscape is beautiful bettered by a feeling of hometown authenticity. My exact words were "we do have nice things in Elkhart."

This is a gem! My partner and I came here for a nice walk on our anniversary and it was perfect. We really enjoyed the gardens. I can't wait to see what the gardens under construction are going to look like!

Poor service. Solid environment once you get past the front desk and pay. Nice walk around the area - quiet - great place to read.

Ask the Community - Wellfield Botanic Gardens

Are there any indoor facilities at this Garden? It will be chilly Sunday and may need a place to warm up

Hi, Andy! Great question; currently, our only indoor location is the Visitors Cottage, where you enter the Gardens; it contains restrooms, our admissions desk, and a small gift shop.…

Even though the number of employees greatly outnumbered the customers, nobody seemed very interested in helping me locate my item. First, they told me that they were in the building so I went and searched through the buildings didn't find them. I went back to check in and was told: they're here somewhere, you just have to look around. Keep in mind this is a huge place. I walked around the outdoor garden center multiple times looking at every tag of every fern and not finding what they said they had in stock. I had to seek out help from multiple workers. Most gave vague answers and were disinterested. There was one attentive employee, she said it was her first day so even though she was willing to help, she didn't know about the inventory and where items were. So frustrating! I'm here. I'm ready to purchase, but nobody can point me to the item that they said they had in stock that I would like to purchase. I probably won't come back. What a time dump. I still don't even know if they actually have my item in stock. The staff seems very confused about their inventory and not super eager to help customers.

We needed help planning a garden in front of our home, so we chose Ginger Valley based on its…read morereputation and our belief that their staff would know the best design and plant selections for our property. Ginger Valley designed the garden, selected the plants, and completed the installation. The original planting was completed in July 2024 and cost approximately $3,500 for a landscape containing 45 plants. Unfortunately, it has proven to be one of the worst investments we have made. The garden looked beautiful when first planted, but within a month several plants began to struggle. We contacted Ginger Valley, and their representative agreed that some of the plants were unlikely to survive. Their warranty provided a one-time replacement of failed plants, so we agreed to wait until the following spring to determine which plants would survive before replanting. In the spring of 2025, the garden was redesigned, different plants were selected, and 36 of the original 45 plants were replaced. Once again, the garden initially looked attractive, but within two months many of the replacement plants were struggling as well. Throughout the process, we were given various explanations, including that the area was too shady, too sunny, receiving too much water, or not enough water. Our concern is simple: Ginger Valley visited our property, evaluated the site conditions, designed the landscape, and selected the plants. We expected them to choose plants appropriate for the environment they observed. In addition, we monitored soil moisture daily using a moisture meter to avoid overwatering or underwatering. As of the summer of 2026, only a small number of the original and replacement plants have survived. The final disappointment involved a Nova Zembla Rhododendron that cost $149 and was planted in July 2024. During the summer of 2025, many of the leaves died and the entire plant was dead in the spring of this year. When we dug it up in June 2026, we found that the root ball remained completely intact. After nearly two years in the ground, the roots had still not spread into the surrounding soil, despite the fact that administered root stimulator as prescribed. We understand that some plant losses are inevitable. However, when a landscape is professionally designed, the plants are professionally selected, and the majority of those plants fail despite a redesign and replacement effort, it raises serious concerns about the original design, plant selection, and installation practices. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Ginger Valley for landscape design and installation services.

I'm sure they do not care anyway!
