I used to transfer from the 72 bus to the 501 Queen streetcar, and vice-versa, growing up in the Beaches. Back in the day, I frequented Towers and Consumers Distributing (I'm really going back in time) at the northeast corner of Gerrard and Carlaw. Gerrard Square was a block away, so I'd shop there as a teen. As an undergraduate, I had physiotherapy in the same plaza as Towers. The downside was that Towers had closed down. There was a Food City next door. Knob Hill Farms took over from Food City. The last grocery store that replaced Knob Hill Farms was No Frills. This entire plaza is gone to make way for Gerrard station on the Ontario Line, a rapid transit line. These days, the entire bus platform at Pape station is shut down, also due to the Ontario Line being built. Only two buses stop at this station now: - Pape 72 - Pape 972 (night line) My manager and I were reminiscing about the Don Mills 25 bus. He remembered it coming out of Pape station. I thought it ran out of Broadview. We are both right. Due to the bus platform shutdown, this bus has been rerouted to Broadview station. It was nice to reminisce about this station when I was riding the subway to get to Chester. Good memories. So much change! (485)

Wow how this station has changed since way back in the day when it was just like all the other stations on the Danforth. Pape has a new look both inside and out. These days that's not common at all. It seems that TTC has really spruced up this station for whatever reason but it's nice and Pape has a bunch of buses that run out of it basically 4 more than the others nearby that mostly have 2. Pape station is actually a bit north of the Danforth at Lipton Ave and Pape. The south west portion of the station has a tiny Tim Horton's as part of the station. It's not a half and half inside and outside the station set up like the McDonald's at Dundas West but it's s tiny, busy little stand. The bus loop around entrance is off pape and the buses drive clockwise around to Lipton Ave. The 25 Don Mills travels north along Pape to the Leaside Bridge and east on Overlea before turning north on Don Mills road with a connection to Don Mills and Sheppard to the 4 line continuing north all the way to Steeles before looping around a few small side streets before turning south. The 185 Don Mills express basically travels the same route but only stops at certain bus stops. The 72 Pape bus runs south from Pape station on Pape ave turning right on Riverdale and then left (south) onto Carlaw and follows Carlaw all the way to Commissioners Street and goes west on Commissioners basically to Cherry before looping back around. The 81 Thornclilffe Park bus goes north on Pape ave to Millwood and turns right at Overlea and loops around Thorncliffe Park drive. This bus route is rather short but has a lot of high rise buildings that it services. There's been rumors that if there is to be a downtown relief line (subway) built that Pape is considered one of the stations to be a terminus. If that happens the use of this station will increase dramatically.

I'd often come visit her at her home by taking the subway from Main Street to Chester. A few Saturdays ago, I took line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) from Victoria Park to this station. There was an announcement that the line was closed at Woodbine heading westbound thanks to a trespasser at a station west of it. Shuttle buses were to be deployed. However, when the train that I was on reached Woodbine, another announcement said that trains were running again. I got to Chester. I walked up some stairs. I ended up on the east side of Chester, in a new building. I walked through a Presto kiosk. An older woman was sitting nearby and asked me if trains were running. I said yes -- that they were running again for the last ten minutes. She thanked me. She went through the Presto entrance and headed down to the subway. I remember the original part of this station, which is still located on the west side of Chester Avenue, north of Danforth Avenue. If you need a human to help you out with directions or transit fare, it's best to go there. The new building that I exited and ultimately entered to get back to Victoria Park station is unmanned. The last time I was in this area, I parked on Chester Avenue for free and walked over to Cinnaholic, which is the main reason why I hang out in this area. I noticed heading back to the station that there's a Green P parking lot next to the new building. Cool! I liked taking the subway here and back. Because my trip was less than two hours, I didn't have to pay heading back to Victoria Park because it was considered a transfer from one train to another. (484)

There are three elevators, but they are out of commission for most of this year. If accessibility is crucial, I'd avoid taking the train here, and go to Scarborough or Eglinton GO station. With a PRESTO card, you need to tap one of the PRESTO machines to start your trip and tap again when you arrive at your destination. It's new to me, as I don't use GO Transit as much as I do the TTC. This station is on the Lakeshore East line. It's the station before you hit Union station heading westbound. I remember the ticket office closing fairly early in the day at Danforth GO. I bought a ticket at a machine back in the day. These days, you can get a ticket from a PRESTO machine, or simply get a PRESTO card and load money on it. It was nice to ride the train and stop at Danforth GO a couple of times. It looks the same. (381)

It was the Yonge-University-Spadina and Bloor-Danforth lines. You then had the Scarborough LRT (rest in transit peace) and the Sheppard line. As much as I like numbers, I'm putting myself in the shoes of a visitor. Which would be more meaningful? I'm not sure. What I think is that this subway station may feel overwhelming to a newbie. It's always busy. The craziness is at its peak during rush hour. Everyone needs to walk fast and get somewhere. I feel like it's a stampede to a certain extent. As someone who often dropped by this station growing up, it wasn't confusing. I recently took the TTC to get to this station on line 2. It's a shared platform between the eastbound and westbound trains when you arrive on line 2. I had to exit to get onto Bloor Street East. The exit that I'm used to faces Yonge Street. I used to visit the Toronto Reference Library across the street often when I was in high school and university. I used this exit to reminisce. There are a bunch of ways to get in and out of this station. Going home, I entered from Bloor Street East through the Hudson's Bay Centre. I don't really know if that's the correct name of the underground shopping concourse. Hudson's Bay is gone, which is eerie. We have Eaton's Centre without Eaton's. Hey, why not Hudson's Bay Centre without Hudson's Bay? I spent hours walking around the concourse as a student. There used to be a Felix and Norton. It smelled so good. I loved cookies, especially freshly baked ones. I still do! I can still picture the paper transfer dispensers with the red round button. They are long gone. There are lots of PRESTO kiosks and gates instead. One of the gates did not recognize my PRESTO card. Luckily, I moved to a different one and I was fine. Signage is clear to get to the right subway line. There are also TTC employees ready to help you, which I liked. There are four floors to this station. I took a combination of stairs and escalators while I was here to move between two floors. There are elevators for those who need to use them, but I can't comment on how effective they are. Most major TTC subway stations have washrooms. This station does. I have never had the need to use the women's. I arrived at this station at roughly 11:30 am on a Monday. I left the area roughly 2.5 hours later. Trains were running on time. I managed to get a seat both ways. It was a good time to be a commuter. My cell phone worked fine on the platform. It was cool. It was nice returning to this station. I grew up as a commuter living in the Beaches. Last Friday, I decided to take the GO train from Pickering GO station to Exhibition GO station for the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), which is also affectionally called The Ex. I live in Markham. If I were to take the TTC, my commute would be at least 1.5 hours with four transfers to get to The Ex. I thought that a direct GO train ride would be better and it was. It took an hour. What can be confusing is how Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West routes work for a major event like The Ex. I found that what the GO Transit site was saying versus what was actually happening on this line were different. When The Ex is happening, Lakeshore West runs from Durham College Oshawa GO to Union station. The train stops for a bit, as Union station is a hub, and then continues west to Exhibition GO. It's out of convenience for tourists and locals alike for such an event, which I appreciate! When there isn't an event like FIFA or The Ex, if you are taking Lakeshore West, it stops at Union station and then goes back east, becoming Lakeshore East. If you want to continue going west, you need to transfer to a different train platform and take Lakeshore West that continues westbound. A bit weird. It is what it is. Similarly, if you are taking Lakeshore West eastbound and there isn't an event like The Ex happening, it stops at Union station. You need to transfer to get the Lakeshore East train to get you eastbound. My experience was that I took the Lakeshore West train from Pickering GO station to Exhibition GO station. The conductor made an announcement before we stopped at Union station, saying that this train would briefly stop at Union before continuing westbound, stopping at all stops, including Exhibition GO. It was the clarity that I was seeking, although I knew that this train would continue westbound. I made the mistake of looking at the GO train schedule. It told me to transfer at Union station, which is the regular schedule without The Ex. The ride to Exhibition GO was pleasant. The train was delayed by five minutes right off the bat. It was minor and we got to Exhibition GO five five minutes later than usual as a result. Everyone left the train and headed down to the main CNE exit in an orderly, civil fashion. It was nice to see. This station has a lot of stairs and three elevators. Most folks took the former. Families with strollers or folks in wheelchairs did the latter. I was trying to figure out where to tap my PRESTO card to conclude my trip. GO Transit did a good job having a ton of PRESTO machines when you exit the station and head directly to the entrance to The Ex. I tapped and felt accomplished that I completed my trip. Heading home, I entered Exhibition GO station and immediately tapped my PRESTO card. I looked at the screen and needed platform 4, which was in front of me. I took the Lakeshore East train from platform 4. Passengers left the train first. We then boarded in a civilized manner once again. My ride back to Pickering was smooth. This train did stop briefly at Union station. The conductor announced it and did a countdown four minutes before the train would continue eastbound. I hadn't taken any GO train since I last worked at Union station many moons ago. It was nice to hear that countdown again. Exhibition GO station has four tracks: - Tracks 1 and 2 are on the north side of the station. It handles westbound traffic to Mississauga, Oakville, and Hamilton. - Track 3 is an inner bypass track. - Track 4 is the south platform handling eastbound traffic to Union station (normal) and beyond if there's a major event happening, like The Ex. Other than the weird confusion between the regular schedule on GO Transit's online site versus what I had experienced heading to this station, I had a wonderful experience taking the train to and from Exhibition GO. I'd do it again when I want to go to The Ex. (378)
