Everything looked great, including their cold salads. When it was time to place my order, the server did not crack a smile or say hello. I gave her my order. She turned around and went to the kitchen. When she came Back with the piece of roti skin in the plate, I knew I made a mistake. She proceeded to spoon out the curry chicken into the bread and topped it with a spoon full of gravy. She then folded it closed, NOT WRAPPED and put a top on it. I was disgusted at that point. When I got to the register the cashier was equally non welcoming, didn't smile, no hello. I was charged $18. I would not be going back for their roti, and I hope if and when I go back, they have better roti skin, wrapped properly and gained better training in customer service for their employees.

I knew I hit the jackpot when I saw all the local folks just hanging out, eating and talking. Anyway, the owner is super sweet and friendly. If you are confused, she will explain everything to you. And she offered me free samples when I was unsure of what to order. Nobody does that anymore! If they let you try before you buy, it is always a good sign. Omgggg, she had me at curry goat, and then threw in a free sample of the oxtail and it was over. Both are delicious and I have always felt that oxtail cannot beat out goat, because it is my favorite mammal to eat, but alas, I was wrong. I ordered a medium size plate and she piled ON the food. Her husband is the chef, and that man can cook! I will definitely be returning because that jerk chicken was whispering sweet nothings to me the whole time I was there.

With that said, Not an expert, but I m know well cooked food. What did I have? Ackee and salt fish is my go but this is done early, got there at 4pm. Soooo jerk of course?!? Nope, ole school oxtail, rice and peas and veggies. A true Jamaican spot can't F this up. Cabbage was crisp and not over cooked. Not over seasoned. Yum. Rice and peas weren't oily and didn't clump. I like a little bit more of the allspice taste but it was pretty apparent and paired well with the other spices. Oxtail, NOT greasy and heavy. Tasty, not salty. You can taste the meat and fat. Oxtail leaves a thin layer of fat on your fingers and you never once encounter it in the well balanced sauce. Legit good JA food by my standards. Worth a visit.

The owner agreed to give me a partial reimbursement but back bit me when it came time to pay up. He pretended not to know what was going on, as of today. He totally wasted my time by having someone come to the establishment to collect the funds, then lied and said we didn't have an understanding with me about reimbursement. So far EVERYTHING I have tried has been delicious down to the rice and peas. I really can't say what was best so I would say they were all equally delicious and flavorful. But I can say the oxtails are some of the best I've gotten from a restaurant in a longtime. Unfortunately there are many Caribbean restaurants that make sub par rice and peas but serve you mounds of it with each dish. The rice and peas is so good that I have heard some people order only that. My only issue is that they don't offer more of an option for vegetables to accompany your meal. When you ask for vegetables they give you a coleslaw. The coleslaw is delicious but not exactly vegetables. But overall anything you order here will satisfy your taste buds.

I also used the opportunity to try their shark, fish balls, whiting and pholourie (10 for a buck!). All of it was great. They are cash only, so be prepared because the nearest bank is a few blocks away. I'm sure you can pop into one of the neighboring stores to use the ATM but worrying about skimmers, I'd sooner just go to the bank which is what I ended up doing. Have an idea of what you want so you're not holding up the line. I was standing there, ordering my food, and a line of five people gathered behind me. The owners are very nice and patient, which is a huge difference from how it is at some West Indian restaurants, where you feel like your presence is an inconvenience. IYKYK I will definitely be back!
