They address issues right away, and the facility is very clean -- there's no lingering smell of urine anywhere. The therapy is effective, and residents learn skills that help them become safely independent for discharge. The administrators and social workers are very caring people who are extremely competent in their work. They give direct answers, and the facility communicates well overall. The activities director is also very engaging with the residents and helps raise morale. The food is catered toward Asian tastes, which is greatly appreciated. This facility is especially well suited for residents who predominantly speak Cantonese or Mandarin. Highly recommended!

The staff attempted to force my grandparent to the hospital because the funding for their therapy ran out. They tried to get my father and aunt to get the paramedics to transport and admit them to the hospital. They went home and then someone from the facility then contacted my aunt, telling her that my grandparent had high temperature and they wanted her to come down so she can release them to the hospital. She refused and when she came down to the facility and asked which nurse made this came, no one confessed. My grandparent and family would be highly inconvenienced -- my grandparent is already fragile and doesn't want to change. Why try to move them when there is nothing wrong with them? All I have to say is go STOP doing this. Why are you trying to deceive your residents into getting care they don't need?! Don't bother removing my review. Mandy and staff were welcoming and cheerful every time we visited, which was everyday for almost 3 years. The facility was always clean and fresh. My family member participated in all their daily activities with Brenda and Wendy. She was reluctant and shy at first but they became people she looked forward to seeing everyday. They became her family. They watched movies, painted nails, did crafts, exercised, played games, and cooked together. Her bedsheets were changed daily and her room was cleaned and disinfected daily as well. The cleaning staff is amazing. They were always happy to do their job. Nurses and health staff came in to see her frequently...oftentimes just to say hello and check-in. The nurses communicated with our family on a regular basis. They would check in to see us when we visited and always reminded us to feel free to reach out for anything we needed. We also got phone calls to inform us of any changes that were to come up. We were consistently able to get updates from the staff as they were easily accessible & there was always open communication. They always included us in the plan of care. My aunt & majority of the family was fearful and reluctant to have her in a nursing facility initially. Pine became her home until she passed. Both she and we appreciate the kindness, nurturing embrace, and patience of the staff that accommodated her personality. She stopped asking to come home after she adjusted because they took such wonderful care of her. She was terrified of losing her bed ! Mandy was our lifeline throughout this roller coaster battling with health issues and always made sure my aunt was taken care of. We were reassured knowing she was under the care of staff at Pine & are forever grateful. They really changed my aunt's life & gave us peace as a family. I've just read a review by an LK H dated June 3, 2016. They said that the care is "unbelievable…read moreinadequate". They mention that they were aware that there is not a residing doctor here and that one does come but once a week. They say that their Dad had this bad experience and yet they decided to let their mom stay here and have the same devastation as their Dad. One has to ask themself why in the world would one continue to have their parents stay here when they knew what the place was like? They said that BOTH of their parents were at this facility for years. It clearly sounds like they took no responsibility for the care of their parents and actually made the decision to leave their parents here despite their "apparent concerns". Something is suspicious about this review. Or sadly even more suspicious is the character of LK H. Now I fully understand that people have their own personal thoughts as to the type of care they want but to continue to "accept" the current level of care by leaving their relative there but then complain about it tells me there is some underlying issue that is not being exposed. I personally have seen families move their relatives to another facility or to care for them themselves and that's understandable. And I've seen families deny needed additional care for their parents and allowed them to suffer. And sadly I've heard of families that deny additional services for their parents so that they can keep the money for themselves. Maybe this was LK H's issue. I can only speculate. I've lived here for six years. What I've discovered is that the staff here is incredibly caring and nice. They go above and beyond to make the residents comfortable and especially safe. They actually listen to the residents and make great efforts to accommodate them. There is also a large volunteer community amongst the residents who hold bible studies, visit and assist the residents in skilled nursing, provide bi-weekly entertainment and shows and even teach table tennis classes. There are Mah-Jong and ukulele groups. We have plays put on by residents and resident talent shows. When residents themselves get involved in the community it reflects a healthy, vibrant atmosphere. People want to get involved. This is not the case in other retirement communities that I've researched before deciding to move here. Also, there are tons of activities organized by Atherton themselves. You can attend exercise and stretch classes, Tai-Chi classes, monthly lunch and dinner excursions, movie nights and trips to the theater, bingo, dance classes and Atherton even organizes domestic and international trips. We went to Japan last November. There are many other activities and educational seminars that I'm not mentioning. All I'm saying is do your homework. Visit many retirement communities and see what they offer before making the decision to move. Understand your financial status to make a good choice to find the right fit for you and your loved ones.
