My problems began with cataracts and I consulted Dr. Horn after extensive internet research. I was struck by his caring attitude. He likes to work with water jets, saying they do as good a job as lasers and he doesn't like passing the larger cost onto his patients! My husband and I decided on implanted corrective lenses! The cost was significant, and Dr. Horn was actually apologetic about the expense. Really though, how can one out a price on vision? In one eye is a far distance lense, and a "reading" lens in the other. The brain figures it out and makes the connection. I see twigs on tree branches for the first time in years, and my reading glasses are a thing of the past! Dr. Horn himself is more than a superlative ophthalmologist, he's a warm, compassionate man who truly wants the best for his patients. I feel extremely fortunate that my search for a doctor led me to his door.

Unfortunately, the office staff and office policies significantly detract from the overall experience. My most recent appointment was canceled without my consent because I did not respond to a text message. Text messages are not my preferred or most reliable form of communication, and I was never informed that failing to reply to a text would result in an automatic cancellation. No phone call. No voicemail. Just a canceled appointment. I find this to be a poor and inflexible business practice, especially for a medical office where patients may reasonably expect more traditional or reliable forms of communication. Canceling appointments solely based on unanswered texts -- without confirmation by phone -- is frustrating and disrespectful of patients' time. It's unfortunate because the doctor is very good, but the office policies and administrative handling need serious improvement. Until that changes, I can't confidently recommend this practice.

The medical clinic oddly did not take my insurance, but they suggested I visit Dr. Kirkconnell instead. I walked in and the staff immediately attended to me and assured me that the doctor could see me. I was very impressed by the staff's attentiveness, professionalism, and friendliness. After filling out a bit of paperwork, I was taken back to an exam room. Dr. Kirkconnell visited me after just a few minutes. What followed was the most thorough eye exam I have ever had - he examined under my eyelids and even used some kind of iodine solution to check for damage to my corneas. I was impressed that he could even tell whether the conjunctivitis was viral or allergic. In short, he had a great deal of expertise, far more than you would get from a general practitioner. He also took the time to answer all my questions and explain everything. He had a pleasant demeanor. I highly recommend this place - I am even thinking of making him my main ophthalmologist. Another bonus, for Spanish-only speakers, there is a fluent Spanish speaker on staff.

I will admit that the first visit wasn't that great due to my anxiety and panic attacks, and due to that they were only able to remove one. Dr. Sherman saw how much pain I was in, and was willing to put me under at St. Thomas Surgicare and remove the rest of the chalazions. I agreed to it, and the surgery was a success. I have been going back for follow-up appointments since then, and everything is looking great so far! :) One big plus was that my insurance company was giving us a hard time with covering the surgery, but the office staff kept calling and nagging them about it until they agreed to cover it. This made me very happy!

Dr Haddad came in like the rock star she is, with her transcriptionist (who has keen ears to hear what the doc mutters while measuring and examining so I wouldn't freak out). She told me frankly that I will always need readers with contact lenses. If been flying with wearing them again for years but no doc before has been realistic-each new brand would be better and they weren't. She shifted my expectations by telling me what other optometrists never said as clearly. She taught me about the shape of my eye ball and why it matters. She even saw my floaters! I may have heard most of this before as I've been sight-challenged forever, but she said it all in a way that I remember even two weeks later. She gave me one distance and one close vision lens and it's been incredible how well I can see! My glasses are so thick that I was self conscious in this zoom life we live. Now I can just be me, with my face and no barrier. I'm joyful.

I received a second opinion at Vanderbilt Eye Institute after indicating during both of my post operative exams that I had no vision improvement following surgery and a haziness in the operative eye which was not resolving - both doctors I saw (not my original surgeon who was unavailable) told me they could see nothing unusual, and that I should just postpone my second eye a week. I will not have my second eye surgery - my vision is not bad enough to warrant surgery and I'm very upset that Loden Vision seems to push surgery rather than looking at the best needs of patients. I had my consultation and heard the price breakdown, then visited other companies to make sure I was getting the best services. I came back to Wang Vision, and I'm still very happy with my choice. Everyone is very knowledgeable about the procedures and helped me feel secure in my decision. There was a student/trainee that attended my consultation with Karen, and I was glad to hear that they take so many students for training at this location. (The student did a great job, too!) Cameron made sure that I felt supported and explained my available options in a very accessible way. Dr. Jones and his assistant performed the surgery in a separate room, and the procedure itself was very fast (like 20 minutes under the laser). Admittedly I sat under the machine for a bit longer because they had to wait for my eyes to numb, so the entire consultation session (redone during day of surgery) and actual surgery took about 3 hours. Then, you go back the next day for a follow up to make sure everything looks ok. I have overall felt supported and informed in my decision to go with Wang Vision Institute. LASIK surgery is a big decision, and I'm very happy with my decision. Plus, they have a really cool lobby.

She was friendly, interacted well, answered all questions fully and clearly, and has a sweet personality. Scott was my Anesthesiologist.
