I moved downstairs because I bought a squat rack from Amazon. It took nearly 2 months for me to move (availability / remodeling) but after I did I came here because every fitness / gym websites didn't carry barbells or plates because it was out of stock. I knew that by paying triple the cost at least I'll get a chance to lift a little heavier, feeling a sense of normalcy amidst this outbreak. Call for prices. I don't remember how much was the bar and the plates but my total w/ tax for both was nearly $600. The experience here was an absolute nightmare. Very dishonest and fraudulent. We spent thousands at weights and bars buying flooring, turf, and plates. Joe seemed to be very helpful at first and nice. After working with him I decided to buy some machines from him for our grand opening of a new fitness facility. What we received was not what we ordered. When the machines arrived a couple of them were not the colors we ordered, some didn't work fully, one was missing stickers, some were mislabeled, the weight stacks didn't reflect what the photo showed, and the stack said 150lbs (was supposed to be 160lbs) and pulled at 50lbs. To make this short Joe sent equipment to our facility that was badly damaged, didn't work as described, and had major mechanical fault errors. We were given no option to return, exchange, and Joe never sent a tech to fix the machines. We were told we were complaining when they were delivered. When we voiced our concern Joe quickly became aggravated and started to raises his voice. Weights and bars owes us 5k. They refused to give us a refund in a timely manner and only decided to do so after we told them we were going to dispute the charges. We are currently dealing with them trying to get our money back, set payments for the last piece of equipment and end this. I would never recommend this company. I wish I could write more but YELP has a limit. Do not trust these people with money. I will add as much as I can to the review. The company agreed to give us a payment plan for a Stairmaster. Joe threw a fit, changed his mind, then tried to take our money, charge extra fees, and tell us take what were given. This man should not be in business. Go to Lifefitness, Rogue, or Precor. They are worth the money. Scammers like this are everywhere in the industry. TREADMILLS: They are supposed to be new. 15k for these is the price given. The treadmills came with a lot of scratches and marks on them. The wheels on them were worn as if it had been moved a lot. The cup holders had a lot of marks as if it had been used many times. If you go into the computer you can see major electrical damage has occurred. There were 3 error codes listed. In addition there were updates, photos, and apps being uploaded to the machine dating back to 2017. We were told this was a new model that just came out. ASSISTED PULL UP MACHINE: We ordered a black machine. Joe called me prior to delivery and asked if we wanted an upgraded model at no cost. I agreed. When it arrived it was a grey machine. I voiced a concern and Joe went off about us being grateful and how we should take what were given. I agreed to an upgrade but he never said it was grey. The machine did not provide assistance at any of the lower weights what so ever. After you went down the assistance pad just stayed at the bottom. The higher weights gave resistance at a much lower weight than what was listed. We immediately voiced concerns and our female manager was met with insults about her ability to do a pull up and to use higher resistance. The machine wasn't good quality, the wrong color, didn't give resistance at lower weights, and didn't work as advertised. This machine came with major faults. HIP ADDUCTION/ABDUCTION MACHINE: We were shown a photo that had stickers listing how to use the machine and the function. This machine had no such stickers. We were told they were sent but never came. The machine had a 150lbs of resistance. The photo showed 160lbs. We used a luggage scale to see how much resistance was given and it was just over 50lbs. No where near the 150lbs advertised or described. PRONE HAMSTING CURL: Very hard to change the adjustments for leg length. Very rigged and cheap pin. The machine went up and gave very uneven resistance. It was light to begin with and a lot of weight at the top. It felt double the weight at least of what the pin was in. The machine did not come down on the eccentric phase. You had to manually pull it down. Did not not work properly. You had to pull it down to make it even function as a leg curl. Horrible machine, major fault. FIXED BARBBELLS: The barbells came covered in rust, highly scratched, dented, and had deep gashes in them. These were highly damaged. We never actually saw the rack as Joe took it away before we could even open it. Weights and Bars disputed our charge back here. Fraud! They took the bars away, never left a rack. We returned them. These bars were not new, they were highly used, dropped, and damged. If they were new they had no business giving these to a paying customer. The price around 6-7k i believe. SEATED LEG EXTENSION/SEATED HAMSTRING CURL: We ordered a black machine and received a grey one. Joe asked us if e wanted a free upgrade. I agreed and a grey machine was delivered. This was never mentioned to us. The machine did not move well or provide smooth resistance. The cable kept coming lose when we were trying to adjust the settings on it. About 5 years ago I had my shoulder surgery. I couldn't lift or have a lot of mobility in my upper body. I reached out to weights and bars for a recumbent bike. The customer service was so amazing. They came to my house, delivered the bike and helped me set it up. Fast forward to the pandemic. We were told to stay indoors. I couldn't go to the gym to train. I was very limited to what I can do at home so I reached out to weights and bars again. I picked up a whole set of dumbbells. The owner Joe was so nice he gave me a free rack to store my dumbbells . Since then I got a lot more stuff from them. My son turned 14. He wanted to start lifting. We just picked up a bunch of bumper plates and kettlebells. I've been wanting to visit this place for a while now, especially when all the gyms closed down. The trick is to add their Instagram. Another friend of mine told me to check their Instagram daily if I'm looking for something specific. If they show that particular item, go to the shop right away because things can sell out FAST! I went the other day during their Mother's Day sale for a kettlebell. $1 per pound sounds pretty good compared to other stores. It was slightly difficult to find, but it's located right behind Lakeshore Learning Center in the garage area. I accidentally went to their showroom at first, but realized google maps wanted me to go a little more down the road. They helped me right away and I got my kettlebell within 10 minutes which was great!!! I am happy with my kettlebell and will hopefully be able to work out a bit more as I wait for the gyms to open up all the way! read more

Our time was water driving from Martinez to San Jose to then be lied to again. I forgot to mention the one of the guys tried to tell my husband that 'only the 35 lb weights were included in the price you gave me'. LOL!!! Oh and Joe....of your 2000 customers (which changed from the 3000 customers you said on Saturday) you only got 2 positive reviews and 1 bad. Those are your real numbers.....not good. Where to begin...I called to check inventory and was told to rush over there ASAP as everything sells out quickly and there's a crazy line. I asked if they could do a paid hold as I was coming from far and was told "I have customers coming from Tahoe, I don't hold anything for anyone". We arrive and not one customer nor any line. Nobody was wearing a mask. Prices are $2.50 per pound and not to mention very condescending. When I asked the size of a bench his answer was "well it's $500, so..." basically telling me not to bother because I wouldn't be able to afford their price gauging. I heard from a couple of instructor friends that they had a barbell set for Les Mills styled workout formats. Intrigued, I reached out and asked my friends for the contact. The contact, who works for weights and bars, was very friendly, prompt and helpful over text. I also called the store when it was opened and received helpful and courteous instructions on when to get here and that they indeed had the item I wanted in stock. Neat. I ended up making the hour-long drive during the 4 hour window that they had, two months after the initial shelter-in-place orders (End of May 2020). It was a bit hard to find, as it was towards the back of these small little stores that had their private parking spots and curbside entrances. The place was busy, people weren't exactly abiding by face covering protocol nor were they staying at a socially distanced amount of space from each other. Due to the lack of instructions, I walked around a bit before being instructed that I should just stand there and they will get to me after this other couple that arrived before me. The wait was short and soon I was being helped. The person who helped me was helpful, but may have had a long day. After I asked about the barbell set, he seemed a bit less interested to help. He told me that I can take a look at the floor model if I pleased, and gestured towards the general open area. I wasn't sure where the floor model for this set was, but after a while I stumbled acrossed it. It looked fine and similar to what I was looking for. The guy rang me up via a square software on his mobile device. There wasn't talk about returns, warranties or anything. Once I got home, I realized that the model was v1 of the barbell set I was looking at. I was a bit disappointed at the difference between the v1 and v2, but overall realized that it was functional enough. I was also worried about the oil residue within the box, but found out from friends that it's normal and that it helps keep the material for the weight plates intact and healthy. My relationship with Weights and Bars is equivalent to that of "Friends With Benefits." I'll explain: I WANT this place when I need something good and quick and right away! But, I don't see it going far. They give me what I need and I give them what they need in return. Then we just don't talk until we need that fix again, hahaha! Ok, that was probably the worst analogy, but jokes aside - this place literally has everything anyone needs in regards to gym equipment. And if they don't, they eventually have it. It seems like they get shipments every freaking day! Their staff is helpful (in a typical meathead sort of fashion, but still helpful nonetheless) and their location is easy enough to find if you know this part of San Jose. I'll admit - I'm lucky that I live about 4 minutes away from them. They never disappoint. I'd say my only gripe with them is that their pricing is more on the high end. Whether you see that as "price gauging" or due to supply and demand, whatever! It's their business so they can set their own freaking prices. Do you go to Taco Bell and demand they lower their $0.99 menu items? NO! You pay it because that's what you do when you want something from someone! Aaaand if you don't agree, then you go elsewhere. Like many, I've been looking for Olympic bars and plates for months and hadn't been able to get my hands on any due to COVID related demand. I saw Weights and Bars on Instagram and messaged them to see if they still had stock. They responded a few hours later and the next day I went down and bought a bar and some weights. The staff was friendly and easygoing. They even helped us load the items. Their prices are a bit higher than others for weights of similar quality. However that's what happens when demand for an item is high. Prices go up. So I can't really blame the staff. TL;DR: friendly staff and good stock. What else can you ask for? read more

Ok I've read quite a few reviews (after I went there) most of the negatives are around the prices, calling it "price gouging". I really don't think thats fair. Now are the prices a bit higher than non COVID prices, yes. Is that their fault or their distributors fault who knows. I'd imagine it's mostly on the latter. I've seen price gouging on Craigs list, price gouging is 90lbs for $260. You can get bumpers here for $180. Again higher than normal but you literally can't get them anywhere. I've been there twice now, if you go at 10am yeah they can be a little short cause well they are trying to move and help as many people as possible. I went at 10:45 and they took their time. My suggestion if you need anything, get at 10am get the weights you need. Then hang around and look at the other equipment and you can talk to them as the line lessens. They are super friendly. I actually bought 45s on discount that had defects so I can't attest to their quality but they work for me I dont care about a bit or rubber falling off. The black bar they sell the most of is made in the USA and is a great utility bar to have. I bought the rack you can separate for easier storage and it works good, just grab some sand bags from Home Depot. They have a bench for $500 that is incline and slight decline, very solid. The rack and the bench both made in China fwiw. But they are good. Follow their IG and go early if you are looking for any smaller sizes. read more

Given COVID-19, their prices are as comparable to other websites and stores online. In comparison to buying online, you at least don't have to pay for shipping, which may make the total significantly more than what you would pay here at Weights and Bars. All in all, $2.50/LB is a high price. I looked through their old posts on Instagram back in 2018-2019, and they use to sell plates for $1.50/LB! The staff is friendly enough, offer fast service, and even load the weights to your car. However, I did not like that the staff were not wearing masks. ***DONT GO HERE*** Saw a previous negative review but came here anyways. I bought some rubber coated grip plates from this place that were brand new in box. I emailed Matt about a pair of 45, 35, 25, 10, and 5, but he informed me that they only had the 45, 35, and 25 in stock. When I got there, they said they had the 45s and 25s but the 35s were a different brand and look. I wanted all matching weights for my garage set up, so I decided to get two pairs of 45s and a pair of 25s instead, and told them I would check back for the 35s, 10s and 5s when they get them in stock. The weights came brand new in box which was great, but when I opened them up a few of them had been damaged. One had indents from the heavy duty staples used on the box. Another had a chip in the rubber. I know they're weights and would eventually get messed up, but since Im buying them brand new, I wouldn't want them to come already damaged. I emailed Matt asking for a refund and he said that was fine. So I told him I would come in the afternoon to return them. He asked for the last 4 of my card that I paid with so he could have all of it ready when I got there. When I got there, I returned all the weights and he informed me that their accountant wasn't there and was supposed to give him access to give me a refund- but she did not. So he said they would have to send me a check through email and asked me to provide my billing address, phone number, and screen shot of my digital receipt to his email so he can pass that along to her. He also said I would receive confirmation with the check when it's sent by the end of the night and if I didn't, to call him the next day. He gave me his personal phone number. So I waited the rest of the evening- nothing. Next morning comes, no email still. So I text him, nothing. So I called their store and he picked up and let me know I should expect it by the end of the day and that he would let his accountant know again. I was fine with that. What I'm not fine with is what happened next. Joe, the owner, calls me about 10-15 minutes after yelling at me asking why I'm harassing them about my refund. He said he cut the check the day before and that checks don't process that fast. He said I have to give them a few days for the check to come through in the mail and then deposit it. So I'm getting yelled at for being impatient about my refund, even though his worker told me it was going to be emailed and all I wanted was clarification. And he's still yelling at me talking down on me like I'm dumb, asking me things like WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? IT HASNT EVEN BEEN A DAY SINCE WE CUT THE CHECK. So I respond first of all, your worker said a check would be emailed to me and then confirmation would be sent. and he says WHAT KIND OF CONFIRMATION DO YOU WANT? ITS JUST GOING TO BE AN EMAIL SAYING I SENT IT TO YOU. and i said yeah, that's exactly what I was looking for? Just any sort of response because I hadn't gotten any response at all. And then he said to wait for the check and now I have his personally phone number. He said he's been in business for over 30 years so he's not going to go through all this for $630. I just don't understand how a business owner of a 30 year business thinks its ok to call and yell at a customer due to a miscommunication that was his own employees fault in the first place. Then the call, Matt texts me saying to be patient. wtf? Matt was cool up until then. Obviously he was just trying to cover his own. I get it. Long story short, horribly customer service on the boss' end. Matt was ok. He apologized in the end. The accountant called to offer a refund to my card (funny because Joe said they already cut me a check and sent it). The accountant was nice too. I will never come back here and would never recommend anyone coming here. But during this shelter in place, unfortunately people may have to since they have some stock. Weights and bars' customer service was great! Due to the covid19 pandemic, these are some tough times to find weights. I was here last week or so and luckily, they just received new shipment of everything! From 5lb hexagon dumbbells up to 90lbs. I also picked up one of their flat bench and the quality is so good for its price... they also had adjustable ones too. Speaking of price, their weights here are fairly priced per lb (rule of thumb is typically $1~ per lb). I know some places that are purposely taking advantage of people during these tough times by selling weights for around $2~ per lb for dumbbells which is ridiculous. Last but not least, if you stop by, ask for Mat who works here. He's knowledgeable and will do his best to help you. read more

Big thanks to Nathan from Weights and Bars. The box I was going to had to close their operations unfortunately so I was left with a decision as where to workout. The nearest box is 40% more expensive so decided to invest in some equipment for my home. Nathan helped me get set up with some 3/4 inch floor mats as well as a new bar and 185# worth of plates. They have a ton of stuff in there and pretty competitive prices. You can shop at Rogue or Fringe Sport but shipping and handling alone will be crazy. Just go here and bring a vehicle that you can load up! read more

I have purchased several items from Weights and Bars for my home gym. They have a lot of good stuff and the prices are reasonable. For me it made sense to buy certain items locally instead of spending a ton on shipping to have something like one barbell shipped across the country. Their hours are very limited so give them a call to make sure someone will be around before you try to go by and look at something. The salespeople are nice and helpful. The store is attached to an actual gym so people will usually be there working out. You just have to track down one of the salespeople who will show you all the equipment they have in stock. So far I've purchased a squat rack, barbell, flat bench, two kettlebells, two medicine balls, and a couple of dumbells and everything has held up nicely. read more

If I were building out a home gym again I would recommend working with these guys. Bought a hex bar deadlift bar from them. Was sent an image in advance (not the actual bar, but a listing) looked good. Purchased and went down to pick it up, it was all wrapped up already so I couldn't look into it too much. Unwrapped it when I got home and the handles were 2 in instead of the normal barbel size, meaning wraps don't fit around it and its super painful on the hands and impossible to lift heavy weights without a ton of chalk for a person with average sized hands. Website said open from 9am-3pm. I drove down from San Mateo at 10am-10:30 and they were not open! On top of that no one was answering any of the 3 extensions provided when calling nor did the owner pick up his cell phone. I'm sure they have a great selection and decent prices but this is no way to run a business. I'm always looking to support my local business but this is just amateur. I found this place through google search. I was initially hesitant to venture in as gym equipment shopping can have intimidating and judgmental sales people. I went in and was a little confused from the gym set up, I had thought it would look more like a warehouse or store front. I must have had the "I'm very lost look" on my face because a kind trainer pointed me in the direction of Joe for my purchasing needs. Joe was amazing. He explained that they have a gym front and equipment stock in the back. They have trainers who meet their clients at the gym front and train in many different modalities. He explained that they don't do an open gym to keep the gym less crowded for the trainers to work more effectively and the clientele to focus and work out more comfortably. And let's be honest working out by yourself with serious weight can lead to injury if you aren't very careful. I purchased four kettlebells and Joe helped me out to my car with them and even took a picture for their Instagram. The entire time all my questions were answered, I was taken care of, and didn't feel intimidated at all. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for equipment or a more serious less meat market gym to put work in at. I had been shopping around everywhere to set up my home gym, but shipping was so expensive! equipment is hard enough on the pockets, so I wanted to maximize what I could afford. As soon as I walked in to Weights and Bars, the staff greeted me and really took the time to learn what I really wanted. Long Story short, I got free delivery, and was able to get much more equipment than I would have been able to online. I've now been using what I bought for 6 months, and I must say....the equipment is excellent. I have been back numerous times to keep expanding my garage gym.
