Doug was a thorough communicator, and handled our father's full arrangements including coordinating with the state of Florida where my dad passed away. The process was not a simple one, yet it was all handled seamlessly, down to the last detail (including military honors). All of this made our family's grieving process easier knowing that we didn't need to worry. I'd recommend them without hesitation. The McHoul's have deep roots in the Hudson Valley and a solid reputation. Now more than ever do I understand why that's the case. Upon coming into the building, no one was there (from the funeral home) directing us to sign the guest book or welcoming us. The guest sign in book was out of the way (after viewing the coffin) I think the funeral home should have had a sign with the deceased name -birthdate and passing date etc - at the entrance. On the plus side -it seemed pretty clean. No weird smells. A water dispenser and plenty of tissues. All of the prayer cards were laminated, which was a plus. The funeral home I used most recently, near my home, only gave us 20 laminated cards.

Dewitt/Martinez Funeral Home handled my family's needs with incredible grace during one of the…read morehardest moments of our lives, and I cannot recommend them enough. When my mother-in-law passed away, we called them around 10:30 PM. They showed up promptly to collect her body, and from the very first moment, they were remarkably soft-spoken and completely respectful. Before even discussing payment or paperwork, they gently asked if we needed more time with her--a gesture of pure human compassion that meant the world to us in that immediate blur of grief. Less than twelve hours later, my family and I were sitting in their office to make the arrangements. The staff welcomed us with genuine warmth and understanding. They walked us through everything thoroughly, clearly separating what they would handle from what we needed to take care of so nothing fell through the cracks. Over the days leading up to the services, we stayed in constant contact. What stood out was that we weren't just dealing with a rotating staff; we were in touch with the owners themselves, who checked in regularly. Every single person involved combined to deliver top-notch service to our dearly departed. Even after the services concluded, they stayed in touch with us to help tie up any loose ends. The respect and dignity they showed my family from late-night pickup to final closure was unmatched.

DeWitt-Martinez Funeral and Cremation Services tended to my mother when she passed. My mother had…read moretextbook examples of elder abuse. She was denied contact with family and friends. Her captor was her next of kin, that intentionally withheld news of her passing from all who loved her. When I learned of her death through legal channels, I reached out to this funeral home to find out if and where she was buried. They refused to provide any information because the "responsible party" said not to give me any information. The man I spoke with used vague non-quantitative descriptors and went so far as to say it was against the law to provide information if the "responsible party" said no. He was unable to specify what part of the civil code would be violated. Two elder law attorneys are also unfamiliar with this law. The funeral home was provided with legal documentatiom indicating I was Executor of my mom's estate and still refused to provide any information because the "responsible party" said not to provide me any information. I find their behavior and practices to me, my mom, and our family unconscionable. Yes, the "responsible party" can be a challenging individual but they have chosen to compromise their ethics to avoid a tongue lashing from an individual. My probate attorney said he had NEVER seen a funeral home fail to cooperate with the family, especially when legal documentaion was provided. Aside from the "responsible party", DeWitt-Martinez has traumatized my family and continues to do so. All conversations were recorded on dashcam so there is a record of what Stacey and Christopher said. They were pleasant as they denied me the information to which I was legally entitled. Just disgusting, unethical behavior. Luckily, I have no need to have dealings with this facility again. I pray for anyone else that uses them.

We are trying to make arrangements from out of state which meant we needed to manage our affairs over the phone. In our case, it was more complicated since the family member who passed away requested cremation and to be buried in a completely different state. Every conversation each of us had with the funeral home was absolutely respectful and pleasant. Most of my experience was with Lew Darrow in Poughkeepsie, but Kayleen was also very helpful. Lew made several calls to third parties to assist in minimizing stress for us. He was even willing to drive to the train station to meet our cousin who was coming from Long Island so he wouldn't have to be inconvenienced to get a cab to the funeral home and return back to the train station (although they offered to ship if we wanted). Excellent Customer Service is putting it mildly, as each call was taken with a true sense of care and consideration. We are very appreciative to them for making this a smooth process during such a difficult time.
