So, yes, we're in a pandemic and yes, I've frequented Wegman's elsewhere pre-COVID and pretty much know what to expect. Just two points to address in this review: 1. If you are an allergy aware family and have serious restrictions like we do (i.e., life threatening peanut and specific tree nut allergies), like most places with open shared service areas, they cannot guarantee allergen-free cross contamination in their products such as prepared foods. Bc of this, there isn't really a motivation for our family to shop here. However, in their defense, they do stock some peanut-free items that are better stocked than places like Harris Teeters such as Barney's Almond Butter which happens to be made in a peanut free facility and avoids other tree nuts (an extra star for that). 2. Their COVID mitigation seems to be just lip service, to be honest. There is no limitations on crowd sizes. Given the current situation this is really unacceptable esp. if your are high risk and or live with someone who is high risk and have not had a COVID jab yet. They have marked lines for social distancing, but realistically nobody follows this. Even today, I just completed a grocery run and was appalled at another customer lining up not more than 6 inches from my back when I was checking out (I almost backed into them trying to pay for groceries). I mentioned this to them (politely) and did not receive a single response and only a vacant empty stare back. Honestly after this experience, I see no need to ever shop at Wegman's again until this pandemic is over or they actually enforce the social distancing and limits on the number customers, So, caveat emptor. You shop at your own risk, but knowing what I know now, I'll pass. If anything, I've learned to respect the choices of businesses like Trader Joe's in limiting numbers and adhering better to social distancing practices. read more

If you're serious about food, I'd put this 2nd to HEB's Central Market for best stores I have been to. That said my experiences at the Wegman Cary location were better in terms of the fish market. Pros +huge store, unique items compared to competitors like venison medallions, bonito flakes (for dashi) or most non psychedelic mushrooms +friendly staff, nice interior, tons of parking, delivery +open very early and very late for your convenience or if you just don't want crowds Cons - in some cases they will replace their brand rather than more choices of other names (salsa, coffee, etc) However, their brands are very good. At this point, I've visited the new Wegman's in Chapel Hill a few times and think it's pretty impressive. The place is absolutely huge and has just about everything you could ever be looking for on a grocery store run. Some random thoughts.... The personnel I've dealt with have always been friendly and will offer to help without being asked. The sub shop's prepared sandwiches are quite good. The store does local delivery. There are sushi and pizza/wings sections, but I've not yet tried those The seafood section ("Circle of Fish") has live lobster -- have never seen that before in any grocery store. The parking lot is huge but easy to navigate. There are also several points of entry/exit. The frozen food section has pretty much the same selection of items that you'd find at Harris Teeter -- nothing really special there. I've only visited the store during the later evening hours, but it can still be crowded even then. I can't imagine what it would be like on a weekend afternoon and don't really care to find out. Overall, this Wegman's is an awesome store, but I'm not sure that I need all of the extras that it offers. Still great for an occasional visit or for something different. read more

Great choices of meats, cold cuts, cheese, ready made food, and Everyday supplies. It's like an upscale target combined with Trader Joe's.

We had Wegmans growing up in Rochester NY then Canandaigua NY. When we moved to the south it was one of the things we missed. Recently we moved part time to Chapel Hill. Wegmans was once again around the corner. It's wonderful to have it back in our lives. Going out to dinner is great but there are times for that and times to stay in. Apologies to other grocers who don't even come close to Wegmans. I'm sure that will churn replies. Wegmans is not only excellent products but also has people who care. Miss Linda at the pre pared checkout with a view of Canandagua above her and Kristen at the salad bar Poke Bowl go above and beyond to be kind and friendly. We never met the Wegmans family but they have created a great place to frequent. Your staff is always attentive and capable in answering all our questions. Thank you. read more

Very Disappointed We were looking forward to finally venturing out to see the new store. Our main focus was on getting fresh fish. There were beautiful whole yellow tail snapper and we chose two. Unfortunately the woman behind the counter (AJ) had NO idea how to trim it. We are experienced fishermen from the Keys and she was Murdering it! We said stop and two the whole fish home. They make bags available without handles. This is just stupid. I called today to let them know I will stop patronizing Wegmans if they can't be competent enough to provide a bag with handles. The manager proceeds to tell me they have reusable bags with handles (that they charge handsome sum for). There are 3 other grocery stores within a few blocks, and are closer, and none are as stupid Wegmans. read more

I bought an apple pie at Wegman's the other day. It was rancid. They wouldn't take it back. Otherwise, it's a great store.

It's baffling to me that there are no capacity limits at this store. Enabling people to wade shoulder-to-shoulder is just not excusable given COVID, even with everyone masked. Amazing selection, yes, but not enough measures to ensure safety. read more

Incredible selection gf prepared foods, although they are a bit over the average family's budget (this is where the expensive reputation comes from). Interestingly, general groceries are priced very competitively and the quality of things like their frozen veggies exceed any I've purchased from others grocers, but the stars start falling on the meat. I have had EVERY item of meat from them I haven't eaten well ahead gone bad by the sell by date. Not after, but before or on....especially chicken. Wasted dozen's of dollars on poorly handled meat. It boils down to we simply buy no meat from Chapel Hill Wegmans, as it seems akin to throwing money in the trash--and thusly, we don't shop at their store. Might give them another shot in a few months; if it's a problem, they should have addressed it by then. read more

Grilled Cheese was very bland and fries were decent but the Grocery store part carried and the service was nice and quick. 4 stars.

The store is not great, but okay. As expected, the prices are high. What I didn't expect was the bad attitude of their Customer Service. When I tried to return an item, the woman behind the counter interrogated me, wanting to know what was wrong with it and why I decided to return it. She proceeded to lecture me on what I should have done. Truly unpleasant experience. I'll return to my regular grocery store where I've never had an issue returning an item. read more

I have done price comparison with HT vs Wegmans. Consistently Wegmans is cheaper by wide margins. Sometimes I can't believe the price difference. I also find the staff to be friendlier at Wegmans than HT and cashiers are faster. Why people keep saying Wegmans is expensive is beyond me. They are still family owned and are consistently named a top place to work. I'em still not over the fact that Kroger bought HT, then shut all the Kroger's forcing you to shop at HT with the higher point. Do a price comparison with each of their apps trust me Wegmans will come out on top. read more

I came here shopping for my parents , I decided to purchase a bottle of sangria, I'm 21, The lady at the self checkout refused to allow me to buy it because I had my sister with me who is not 21. I find this to be ridiculous and her demeanor was unacceptable. I don't care how good their selection it, I will not be coming back. read more

Have been going to Wegmans since they opened in CH. Today, however, I was disappointed they allowed someone walk freely around the store without a mask. There's already zero ground rules for COVID precaution here but that was careless. Will most likely return to Harris Teeter for my weekly trips. read more

I love Wegmans and was excited to see one coming to the Durham/Chapel Hill area. The Wegmans brand is cult status, delicious and so wonderfully priced. The prepared foods are amazing. I think it is easy to get in trouble here with the variety of amazing food but there is enough variety/price points to make it out with your dignity and bank balance intact. Gorgeous, huge, moody lighting and tons of options for whatever you need from staples to gourmet. Navigation to and parking is easy - which I was concerned about when I saw the location was near the Wendy's Bermuda Triangle off 15-501. Yay for Wegmans! read more

Finally a place that doesn't pretend that "social distancing" is based on science. They are taking whatever precautions they are supposed to but that isn't the focus of your experience there, thankfully. So Wegman's is an impressive store. No argument there. Why though, is their food so expensive? And before someone corrects me and says, "Their house brands are like, almost free! Yogurt for 33 cents! Hummus for two bucks!" Yes - and - their prepared food is bonkers expensive. Nuts. And isn't that whole section of the store what they're really known for? Last night, I'm at Wegman's, and I notice that there are two hot bars open. One featured very limited mall-like Chinese food, and the other had wings and what I think were fried cheese sticks. One tray had breaded chicken tenders - the kind you feed a five-year-old. Price per pound? $13.99. Folks, Whole Foods hot bar is only ten bucks a pound. Whole Foods. You can buy nice fresh fish for $13.99 a pound. I don't get it. I'm all for paying what food is worth, but c'mon. Chicken tenders... like... from a big freezer bag and then sitting under a heat lamp? I might as well just buy those suckers "fresh" and do 'em gourmet-like in my toaster oven. read more
