We need a Aldi's in NorCal seriously! Aldi's is my main go to grocery store when I am in NC. I love shopping at Aldi's because bayyyybeeee!!! The price cannot be beat! I don't care what anybody says. The entire store is always clean and organized. Item do seem to sell out fast so it is best to go in the mornings and Weds when I new deals come out absolutely worth it! They carry not only groceries, but home decor as well and the prices are amazing as well. I did have to take off a star because customer service here can be hit or miss mostly miss. My wife and I have been to this ALDI in Durham a few times. It's OK. It's pretty much the same as the other ALDI locations we've been to. This is the only ALDI location in Durham. It's located just off I-40 exit 274 on NC highway 751. ALDI is known for low prices. The company cuts costs in a variety of ways. One of the well-known ways is requiring customers to insert a quarter to unlock a shopping cart. If you return your cart, you get your quarter back. This saves ALDI money because they don't have to pay someone to collect carts and they're less likely to lose or have damaged carts. ALDI also charges for grocery bags, so bring your own. Locally, they're like Wegmans in this sense. My dad used to shop regularly at one of the two ALDIs in High Point. He seldom goes now. He liked to mention that ALDI owns Trader Joe's, I think because he thought it was an interesting fact. Food Lion has been his go-to for decades, before and after ALDI. One of my wife's memories of this particular ALDI is having to stand in line outside in the summer heat during the pandemic. At that time, ALDI was only letting a certain number of customers in the store at a time. That was back when the City and County of Durham had mask mandates. read more

Aldi has some phenomenal fall finds and the prices are so good! I love that they always have seasonal items like pumpkin spice butter and creamers. They have a good selection of fall desserts, and new foods for the fall season. But I found an amazing candle wax warmer for $9.99 with $1.69 wax melts and I have been using it everyday. Go get one asap before they take it out the store and make room for newer items! Definitely a steal. I always look forward to seeing what new things they have. read more

The Durham Aldi Store is very dirty. The workers walk around as if you are not there. It's hard to scan your items because the registers and bagging areas are filthy. The upside, there are some quality items for great prices. Also, you can do better in the service and cleanliness areas.​ read more

I was staying at a nearby hotel for business and saw an Aldi within walking distance and gave it a shot. I like the Aldi at home, so I figured I'd go and check it out. If you aren't familiar with Aldi it works a little differently then other grocery stores in the US. The biggest difference is you'll need a quarter to unlock the shopping carts. Don't worry, you'll get it back when you return the cart. This does a great job keeping the parking lot uncluttered and the carts are of better quality. Once you go in it's laid out the same as most. However this one seems to have some wider aisles then the one I frequent at home which is nice as I usually get stuck behind someone that doesn't have the presence of mind to consider they aren't the only human being in the world shopping there at any given time. I digress. They offer various Aldi store brands and have a great produce section with a decent selection of organics. While going through the aisles, and this applies to all Aldis I've been to, take your time and look at the products. The main staples remain the same in large part, but you'll easily miss a really tasty new product they've brought in seasonally, or weekly. They have a good selection of vegan fake meat patties and the vegan meatballs are delicious. They also have some really good vegan mozzarella that melts well and tastes amazing. I checked out quickly after making my selections as there was no one else in line. Remember to bring your reusable bags or you can purchase paper bags in the checkout line. Also available are some reusable cooler bags. The cashier was kind and certainly made my experience shopping here even better. If you haven't yet, try the guacamole. My favorite is chunky style. Place was very conveniently located across my hotel and was able to purchase milk, drinks, and snacks for the kids. Prices - Not sure if it's cheaper out here in the east coast but everything seem low priced compared to Cali. Inventory - They seemed to be hurting a lil for variety and inventory on stuff and just overall seemed scattered. Service - Didn't require any but didn't see anyone walking around and check out was quick. Store - Could be cleaned out a bit better and better organized. I originally gave them three stars when they opened but am upgrading to four stars since I find myself coming here frequently now that we've moved closer to this location. The selection is still spotty and some of the produce is not the freshest, but it's hard to beat the prices here. I've also started checking their online flyers before coming so I know what is on sale. Beyond food, we've also occasionally bought other wares like a Christmas welcome mat that was very well priced. Reasons we'll never quit you: Affordable prices Close to the Target, so you can justify stopping real quick I also like that it is separate from other businesses so it has its own parking lot Their brioche buns/take home baguette/breads Ever revolving potato chip options (just tried the cuban sandwich ones ) The chocolate covered cookies Persian Cucumbers, organic carrots stick, grape tomatoes, lemon and limes are usually great quality/flavor The cheese selection, especially the unique seasonal items Fish (tilapia and salmon) quality and price Pumpkins are sooo cheap Fun goodies for Easter (books/baskets are a hit with my kid) They have yogurt bites and my kid could easily eat a bag a day if I let her We finally tried the infamous red bag frozen chicken breast and they do taste like CFA Grass fed beef in 1 lb packages, easy to freeze All sorts of frozen goodies, mochi, cakes, ice cream, etc Make sure to check out the weekly ads, one of these days I'll actually make it there on a restock day and get my pick of the new fun weekly items. This Aldi is "fancy"! From reading the last review, apparently they just remodeled it. It looks fantastic! Kind of "Whole Foods-eque." Like, fruits and veggies in wicker baskets with chalkboard-like price signs. Just looked classy. Prices are great for the most part... there are a few items that are cheaper elsewhere (surprisingly). Prices also change somewhat frequently. For instance, I was buying eggs for .49/dozen and the next week they were $1.49/dozen. Weird. At this particular visit, butter was listed for $2.29/lb and I loaded up on 8 packs of them... at the register they rang up for $2.99/lb. They obviously gave them to me at the lower price but just keep an eye on the screen when you're being checked out... or just review your receipt. This wasn't the first time the prices were different. But overall, prices are good. Another example: milk. Aldi ($1.69/gal), Walmart ($2.39/gal), Food Lion ($3.39/gal) And for all those families with MORE THAN ONE KID... the carts hold 2 kids!!!! Wow wow! It was fantastic! Impressed!!! Oh my gosh, I've used Aldi so often over the past 8 years or so. Never had a problem till yesterday when I (unwisely) ordered the Belgian dark chocolate chunks through Instacart. I was swayed by the photo and the description. Boy oh boy....do I regret getting them. They made me bloated and nauseous. Did I read that they have chili pepper in them? I hope not. They taste like 3 dollar chocolate, which indeed they are. On the positive, I've always enjoyed going to their stores, but during the Pandemic I've been using Instacart. The chocolate is the only food item I've ever had a problem with. It tasted so awful, I don't know if it qualifies as "food." Do yourself a favor and get quality chocolate! read more

However, Aldi is a great discount store and you cant beat the produce and canned good prices or the egg and frozen seafood prices. Yay! Finally an Aldi in Durham & in my neighborhood!! Today is Grand Opening Day and I had to be there! It was smooth going all the way even though there was a crowd as soon as the doors open. Really nice employees too! The shelves were stocked to the max and even though I've been a regular shopper in Cary, I saw quite a few items I've never seen before. The produce looked super fresh and I love that you can buy a whole bag of normal size apples and pears for a great price, rather than having to hunt through giant size ones at the regular stores for higher prices. For those who are skeptics of Aldi, please give it a try!! Don't think that they're off brands. They're not!! Like Trader Joe's (who is the brother of Aldi's owner), they create their own brands that are produced in the same factories as name brands. Because they put their own label on it they can offer it for such a low price. I have to laugh at people who scoff at Aldi's while I save a ton of money every time! If you're ever unhappy with a purchase bring it back & they refund you double!! Nice!! Bring a quarter for you shopping cart - you get it back after you check out, also bring your own bags - you have to bag your own. Aldi is a great store to shop at for basic items such as groceries, cleaning supplies, alcohol, etc. The store is small but has most of the basics I usually need. The best part about the store is the "Aldi Finds" section which changes inventory on a weekly basis. The items in this section are only stocked once and are first-come first-served. In the past, I have bought a muffin pan, loaf pan, silicone oven mitt, candles and toys for my dog - most items under $5 and all very good quality. Look for the weekly store ad online or in-store to see what "Aldi Finds" items are coming up in the next week. This store does require masks, but like most stores they don't enforce actually wearing a mask properly. Most recently, I walked past 3 people who were wearing their mask under their nose. In other stores, this isn't as big of an issue because you can just create more distance between yourself and other people but this Aldi (like most Aldis) is very space efficient - meaning it is difficult to avoid people at times. The staff is always wearing masks. In the past, the staff was wiping down carts but they are no longer doing that. There are sometimes wipes available to wipe down your own cart if you wish to do so. Tips for first-time Aldi shoppers: - bring a quarter to get a cart - remember to return your cart in order to get a cart back - bring resuable shopping bags to carry your items (the store does not provide bags for free, but you can buy some paper bags for 7c if you are in a pinch) - the store often has empty boxes available if you want to carry your items in those read more

I was so excited to see this Aldi grocery store in Durham. I couldn't wait to go inside and check it out ,as we don't have any of these in Arizona. I have Experienced some others on the East Coast,and I always like to visit there . This grocery shop did not disappoint me. They have a beautiful selection of fruits and vegetables. At an extremely reasonable price. The wonderful selection of all the foods is very nice. It is so much more I wanted to buy there but can't really carry it around with me. Hahaaa They have everything you would find in a regular grocery store and more. Household items ,clothing, shoes,and more. I was amazed at all the different products they have . Even bought papaya and mangoes. All the vegetables I bought were incredible as well as the fruit. Plus reasonably priced. Check out was fast and easy. They sell shopping bags very cheaply. It was my first time at one of these locations which I had heard a lot of. This is a German company so shopping is done in a very European way so don't expect customer service or staff all over the place.....it's just the European way which might not be for everyone. I personally am the type that doesn't need assistance and likes to walk into a place and get what I need. So this place is a perfect match for me...I recommend this place to the younger generations who might always be on the go and need things quick. read more

Every time I visit this Aldi, the service seems to get worse. Something's always broken, out of stock, or out of date. Today, thankfully, everything I came for was actually in stock, but all the lettuce was brown and had liquid in the stems, and the romaine lettuce had an expiration date of June 25. Needless to say, I could see why it was fully stocked, and I didn't get my lettuce today. Then all the checkout lines signs were off. I asked the manager which lines were open, and he said all of them, even though two that I walked past had closed signs at the end of them. Irritated me, but I just went and checked out. I really enjoy visiting Aldi. When I know specifically what I want, I can visit any store and find that item. Occasionally, I may have to walk through to find the isle but primarily, things are laid out well so that I don't have to ask for help. As long as I don't visit late on a Saturday afternoon, as some stores tend to be wiped clean of pertinent grocery items (like bananas). I was able to stop into this Aldi, find what I wanted, and was in/out in less than 5 minutes. The staff members are always quick on the registers. Are they trained how to be efficient? This is the nicest Aldi's that i have been too. It is very new and the you can tell! We switched over to shopping here and have really started to see the savings adding up. I was nervous at first but we have yet to find any of the food we by to be bad. The produce is very fresh and so much cheaper than at a regular grocery store. The staff is always so helpful and willing to help find things that you just cannot seem to find. The only thing that I have found to be a problem is that we typically shop on Sunday for the week and that seems to be right before they restock the shelves so sometimes they have run out of things (like bagels!). I finally found the time to check out Aldi after hearing so much about it. How much money could I say and how is the Quality? So many articles about feeding your family for less and you can do your entire shopping here. Not so fast. You could but would you want to? If you serve spaghetti, rice and beans, processed food, questionable meat, mac and cheese and snacks. Yes, you can. But if you're able to branch out and spend a little more on a better variety then you're not going to be impressed. You can find staples here cheap for which they are good and maybe find a few things you can supplement with other items The produce is not refrigerated and sits out in the middle of the store all day and maybe longer. I would get there in the morning to a get a better selection. It has been hit or miss for me in produce. Things tend to go bad quickly so only get what you'll eat within two days, tops. I spent some time comparing prices with the Walmart brands and found that out of 15 items I bought, Walmart was more expensive except for 4 things, Coke, avocados, cucumbers and frozen fruit. Tiny bags at 2.49 when at Walmart you can buy a huge bag for overall much less. You'd have to buy 5 bags to get a decent amount here. Several items did not pass quality. Parmesan/asiago cheese. I threw it out after it clumped into one ball and tasted like sand. Cucumbers-pale, tasteless, brown parts and after a few days mold. Asparagus-started smelling off after a few days. It tasted fine but I barely caught it before it spoiled. Everything else has been fine and I probably saved $7 over what I would spend at Walmart with about the same level of quality. It's not a windfall and I doubt it's worth the drive but I'll give it a few more tries before making my final decision. read more

ALDI has great prices on their house brands of groceries. They do carry Coke products and name-brand feminine products but do not take coupons. These (name brand) items can be purchased, for less, at other stores with coupons. The stores are clean and basic. Not fancy like a Kroger. If you want to save money and are willing to buy an ALDI brand instead of Kraft, you can save HUGE money. Afraid of using a house brand? ALDI guarantees your satisfaction. Someone else posted that ALDI does not have bags and that you must bring your own or use their cardboard food (stock) boxes. This is NOT true. ALDI does SELL reusable bags. One other thing, in order to save money, ALDI uses a .25 cent deposit to use a cart. You get it back when you turn it in. read more

I love this place! My first time shopping here and I'm a customer for life! I absolutely HATE grocery shopping, but Aldi changed my mind...a little. My budget was $70, just to pick up a few items, but after realizing how low the their prices were, I begin to get carried away. Soon reality set in that I was gonna have to pay for everything in cart, I thought I should take it easy I may be over budget. I get to the counter....my total $44! I was sooo shocked I put my groceries in car, came back in to shop some more. You have to pay .25 for a cart, which you'll get back when you return it. Bring your own bags..they charge .06 for paper bags .10 for plastic. You may also box up your food with empty cardboard boxes in the store. Don't be put off with the the brand names, thinking they're just 'generic" in fact it's their own brand. The quality is just as good as anything you purchase from Food Lion, Harris Teeter etc. Give this place a try, you'll be glad you did!!! If you have been to any Aldi's this is right on par with all the others. Good deals, some good organic options, and low prices. Also you can usually find good prices on produce with a decent variety. They have some really good vegetarian burgers but I can't remember the name of them, they aren't mock meat but genuinely a veggie burger, they come in different flavors like Thai and Samosa. I've only seen them here. I do feel like it gets a bit crowded but it's not unbearable. Because they don't bag your groceries the lines usually move fairly quick. As usual bring your own bags and a quarter for the cart. If you like Aldis then you'll like this one too. read more

There were once two brothers, they lived in Germany and owned a grocery store. The brothers had a feud that led to the creation of two stores: Aldi's and Trader Joe's. If you walk into a Trader Joe's you'll be greeted by up-beat employees who bag your groceries at the check out, you can grab a cart with the intent that you'll stock it yourself, you'll find organic products and their own labels, which can be purchased at a discounted price. Aldi's, on the other hand, pride themselves in offering the LOWEST grocery store prices (as their receipts say: we don't match competitors prices because we wouldn't want to charge you more!) They eliminate extra employees that need to be on staff by making customers stock their own carts (you've got to have a quarter to get a cart and you get it back once you put your cart back). They also don't have bags for groceries and I've never seen more then five employees in the store at a time (usually just ringing people up). On the downside, it's almost impossible to find an employee on the floor to help you if you have a question, and there is almost always a long line of people checking out. You must pay with cash, check or debit (no credit!), saving those credit card charges. Aldi's, like Trader Joe's, has it's own brand too called "fit active". They have seasonal veggies and fruits along with your most common dried goods, baking supplies, breads, daily items, etc. I especially love their cheese selection, it's perfect for a fancy cheese plate (for a reasonable price!) They do have a wine selection, but I'd skip it unless your desperate or need some mimosa champagne. Aldi's also has a handful of closeout items including household odds and ends. You'll find anything from a hammock to yoga mats and other fitness supplies to pots and pans and wine holders. You never know what you're going to find! Either way, there's pros and cons to Aldi's, but I love stocking up on the basics for a good price here. read more

I have only been to Aldi once, but I can see why people love it. You can definitely save a lot of money shopping here if you are open to branching out from your regular brands. My only criticism is that the produce didn't seem to be identified as local or organic (because they aren't...). Also, many of the items in the store are unhealthy. There are plenty of varieties of soda and chips! Of course, you can say the same thing about a Food Lion, Walmart, or Target. Aldi does have a line of products called "Fit & Active" though--but that selection is limited. Like others said, bring your bags and a quarter for your shopping cart. Be prepared to pay cash or debit when you're checking out. Personally, I don't live near an Aldi, so I am going to stick with Trader Joe's. We shop here almost weekly for our groceries. We're not that close but the drive is worth it to not have to deal with "Walmart people" or over pay at our local supermarkets. I recently went to Trader Joe's and instantly wished we had gone to Aldi instead. Trader Joe's is great for snacks and specialty foods, but we are eating healthier now so we ignored most of the items and there was no point in paying more for produce and meat that we usually get at Aldi. A plus for TJs is their wine, flower & nuts/dried fruit selections...but not a spot for staples. FYI: Trader Joes and Aldi are owned by the same German company. So many of their store brand are probably made by the same distributors. The produce at Aldi is my favorite section. Fresh and cheeeeap. Great chocolates, cheeses and they've increased their selection of healthy/organic foods which is great. Meat selections aren't much but the steaks are decent. A treat is their "select buys" which don't last long so if you find something you think you'll love...buy a bunch. Their housewares aren't bad either. I've had a Dutch oven from them for years. A limited grocery store with fairly inexpensive items! Most items that I typically shop for seem to be a great bargain. For example, their 1/2 gallon of Lactose free milk is the cheapest I have seen anywhere, at $2.79. Some items however can be bought cheaper at certain dollar stores. For example, I can get soymilk at a cheaper price at my local Dollar Tree store. Overall, I like this place and it will be a regular trip for my pantry items! read more
