This was one of the smaller Patel Brothers grocery stores I've ever been to. However, it was still large enough to have a robust selection of fresh produce that you would struggle to get anywhere else, as well as plenty of spices and frozen items. The package foods were a little bit, disappointing for me; in terms of ingredient quality and price. The best part was that this was the sort of place where you could get long beans or melons and gourds and peppers that don't exist in the US for the most part and that is plenty enough reason to come. read more

My mother in law has been going to this store for years and recently had a terrible customer service experience. The staff were very friendly and accommodating but the owner was an absolute jerk. My mother in law asked for the price of an item on a top shelf and was unable to see the price or obtain the item because of the height of the shelf and when she asked the staff, who happened to be the owner, she was told to, "go figure it out yourself." The owner then started making false accusations against my mother in law for no reason and was being rude. If the owner can be this unnecessarily aggressive with a loyal customer they truly don't care. read more

Bought a box of frozen patties, I got home and noticed they were expired. I called the store, they are really hard to understand, but I managed to inform them the product is expired, I was asked to return to the store after heavy questioning about when it was purchased. I got to the store and again, difficult to communicate and heavy stares at my receipt to see when it was purchased. A refund issued without anyone apologizing or conveying any kind of feelings about what I experienced. This is a horrible experience, be careful of expired products, or shop somewhere else all together. read more

As someone who is constantly trying to make my mom's amazing Pakistani recipes, this is the ultimate grocery store! The selection of food is wide and deep. When my parents come here, they always delight in finding they haven't seen before or haven't had in decades. The prices are also excellent. The produce section is limited to items used mainly in South Asian cooking, which means the section is small but also has things you won't find in other places. The produce prices are unbeatable...50 cents for a giant bunch of cilantro! $1 for a bunch of mint! Roma tomatoes for 99 cents! Don't go anywhere else for these things! Most importantly, the store is always neat and clean and it never smells bad...if you've ever been to a smelly international grocery store, you know what I'm talking about. One note of caution...the parking lot is a little tight, especially considering that most desis drive mini-van, so just be careful. read more

Very good Indian store with fresh products and produce simply because of the huge volume they move. Prices are generally quite good but we have noticed that it's a bit more expensive than the same brand at store we've shopped many times in Jacksonville FL. The parking lot, however, is tight, lots of twists and turns because of the shape of the hill it's on, and crazy busy. People are seemingly always rushing in and out, so pedestrians have to be extra aware, therefore I elect to park further away to avoid the madness. OMG I have found my people! The store doesn't open before 11am but when it is: rice, beans, flours (including bean and rice flours), spices, paneer, ghee, fresh veggies, pickles, and an entire aisle of frozen prepared foods and frozen veggies (picked up mustard greens, fenugreek, and bathua). I was delighted to find gluten-free hing and refrigerated gluten-free dosa batter. Prices were fair. Store was impeccably clean. read more

My reason for going there was to find some options for organic and gluten free foods that are authentically Indian. I can no longer eat in restaurants that serve both gluten and gluten free foods. The risk to me is too great. So I've been learning more about home cooking Indian foods. To my delight, they have a gluten free section, and inside of that, you can find many organic options. I found chana (chickpeas) of several types, gigantic bags of organic rice from 24mantra, and even spice mixes that are gluten free. I can't say that they all have the Certified label, but I know that India is one of the places where certain regions have a high incidence of Celiac. So they're fairly organized about it. You might like to know that they have something called "broken rice' which Southern Americans might call "middlings." I'm sure a few people locally would be delighted to find that. And the prices are very reasonable. They have a small but wonderful produce aisle so you can reproduce Indian foods at home without compromising on the authentic ingredients. Dudhi, okra (two types even!), and different kinds of eggplant stole the show for me. They even have gluten free idly batter, all made up. OK that was a risk for me to take, but it didn't gluten me. It was delicious. I wish I could take the risk more often, but once was enough so I knew what the flavor should be like. read more

My boss Ekabaram Elmaran and I visit Patel brothers and carry every Monday to pick up groceries for his family's restaurant in downtown Southern Pines North Carolina every employee is extremely helpful with us every time we visit the store is always extremely clean and the bathrooms are always immaculately clean. One time we visited and a cashier was courteous enough to help us find Chapstick my lips were incredibly chapped I am a 26 year old man and I can be sort of stubborn and this is the winter time and my boss bought this Chapstick for me and I've been introduced to so many delicious treats and sodas and all types of delicious food and recipes born from the Indian tradition. It is always a pleasure and a privilege to visit this grocery store with the best boss in the world Maran. Patel always has freshest stock of dals, produce and rice because the demand is so high. They are always restocking their shelves which is a good sign, because we can get fresh(er) dals (packets of which perhaps are already sitting in a cold, dark storage somewhere). As a kid, I remember we would get jute sacks full of tuvar and moong dals delivered fresh from our farm - the aroma of a non-stale cooked daal is very enticing. Anyways, back to the Patel review - things are fresher in this store. Don't particularly care for the attitude of the clerks at the sales counter. They know their store is the best, but their customer service is awful. read more

Great store--convenient location for NCSU students and very inexpensive. This is a very friendly, family owned business. The facility is also very clean. I love the fresh snacks in the bins near the cash register and the aloe vera plants that are available. You can find pretty much anything you would need for any type of Indian cooking. It gets VERY crowded on weekends and evenings (I have observed a good share of rude and pushy customers) so try going close to when the store opens. I wish the parking lot was a little bit bigger and had an opening on Chatham Street as well but again, many issues can be avoided by timing your visit wisely! read more

Yikes, the parking lot and entrance to it were a fifteen minute bottle neck of confusion and prayers that I wouldn't have to call my insurance agency. Like other reviewers have noted, the parking situation can be quite daunting during the weekends, and they were definitely not kidding. Once you manage to snag a parking space, the inside is quite spacious and full of awesome food and merchandise not sold in typical American stores. There were a ton of spices available, and an employee happily recommended me a few spices to make an awesome chai. I also walked out with a ton of frozen foods (curries, samosas, kulfi) to keep me happy. I like the grocery store but the parking is a major buzzkill. I'll probably stick to Around the World for peace of mind. read more

I kept passing this place off for another day since it is usually packed and the parking lot looks like a hassle. Well, I finally went in and it is a nice store. I now understand why they are so busy. This is an Indian food store, and unfortunately I am not familiar with Indian recipes so I cannot review on the selection. However, my friend really likes this store and she says that she can find what she needs here. She pointed out that they have traditional Indian treats that are similar to candy bins at the grocery store. I also learned that frozen Indian meals have become popular and this store carries them. I was eyeballing the rose ice cream, but since I was not going straight home I had to leave it for next time. I find this store useful for the basic Asian staples of rice, beans, and spices. They also have an awesome fresh vegetable section. They seem to be fresh picked, there is a good variety, and the prices are amazing. The store is a decent size and I heard they expanded, but the isles are quite narrow and I often felt that I was in the way. I like this store but I don't see myself coming back too often. The parking is a deterrent; it just doesn't seem worth the trouble. In addition, since they mainly cater to Indian food, I would still have to go to another Asian market to pick up items they don't carry. If I ever get talented enough to attempt to make an Indian dish, this is where I would go. read more

Beware of this place and double check your receipt when you make purchases. The owners (especially the wife) are known for tacking on extra charges on your total bill. Patel Brothers is an affordable spice Shangri-La. If you love experimenting with food chemistry but feel shut out by cost prohibitive exotic ingredients this is the market for you. I am from Miami, Florida where we have all kinds of people. I am a people person that loves to cook. I really liked the store but not the people in it.. ;(. I never felt more out of place. I was just looking at the rice and this kid said hi so I said hi back. And the dad just grabbed her and yelled at her for saying hello... It's Not a big deal, but I was just browsing the the isles and looking around.. And Man, I got the worst looks in there. Great store for Indian foods, there are quite a few in the area and this is my favorite. They have a huge selection of Indian staples, sauces, spices condiments etc. and it is laid out in such a way that even I can find my way around. This store keeps slowly deteriorating in service and good. After they expanded recently, I thought this will be amazing. Unfortunately, the fresh produce has become stale. They are not replacing the stale groceries off the shelves and putting fresh ones that they used to. Secondly, now they have imposed a system like Aldi (no other store has this policy) - where you need to bring a quarter to insert to get a grocery cart. Yes unbelievable and then when you return with gorcery, you have to put the cart back to get your quarter back. This is extremely frustrating for people with kids and such to have to carry quarters (no one carries cash let alone lose change any longer) and then return the cart. Why don't they utilize their own employees to fetch the carts or make improvement in the parking lot to set up a cart collection location as every other store does. My rating has simply fallen from a 4 to a 3 and now 2. Rather unfortunate. Thankfully we have Around The World and Sangam stores in Triangle that still believe in servicing their customers. read more

This store is conveniently located. Its my regular place for grocery shopping. The store is clean and well organized! Prices are pretty cheap when compared to other Indian grocery shops. Vegetables,lentils and other condiments are fresh. They replenish their counter with fresh vegetables every Thursdays & Fridays. Parking here is a pain during weekends. You get almost everything that you need for Indian cooking. read more

I assumed they'd be more expensive than the smaller Indian market down the road (the name evades me) but they are actually very inexpensive and carry almost every ingredient you could need such as spices, unique fruits and vegetables, henna dyes, sweets and unique drinks, as well as frozen pre-made meals that are certainly less expensive than other places like Trader Joe's & Harris Teeter. Very good selection of groceries and frozen foods, probably bigger than any of the other Indian stores in the area. This location is soooo much better than Patel Brothers in NYC, uff I would get a major headache there. Here it is clean and fairly spacious, but it does get very busy here and with people pushing their carts around too tight. Also, there is a jewelry store at the back...of course...jewelry and groceries why not...so now you can pick some eggplant the next time you come to pick out an engagement ring for you fiancée. Oh yea, forgot to mention that getting into the parking lot is a bit inconvenient, so don't forget to bring an extra bag of patience when coming here. read more

I have 35 years in Retail Sales and Customer Service, I am proud to know they are here to help my India needs. As for the shopping carts I wonder why it took them so long to fix the problem of customer leaving carts in the parking lot. It was so dad at times the they consume available parking spots. I have had to collect cart myself cause it was so mad. Maybe using a corral would have been a better method. Lets look get the cost keeping the carts out of the lot. The only thing I see this store needs they are fixing, (MORE PARKING)!!!! As for the owners they are the BEST a completely Trust them. Eddie read more
