Wonderful grocery store! I've heard of people driving an hour out of their way to go to Wegmans and the chain inspires fan pages on facebook. They have a terrific selection of foods and good (though not always outstanding) prices. Wegmans excels in variety and quality . It has its own meats section, bakery section, seafood area, deli, sushi place, dining area, healthy foods department, candy department, etc- and all of these "sections" have selections that are extensive with good quality food. If you want standard grocery items (toilet paper, milk) you'll find them and you'll also find calamari salad or specialty salmon. Wegmans is also famous for being a good place to work. It treats its employees well and is based out of nearby Rochester. While WNY does not often have stores that surpass major metropolitan area stores, Wegmans offers much more than any Stop & Shop, Trader Joe's, Piggly Wiggly, Whole Foods... read more

I love Wegmans with all my being. Ok, so we all know the food rocks all sorts of socks, so this is a specific review: Flowers. I'm getting married, and I'm cheap, so of course I go to a food store to get my flowers, right? Well, cheap I may be but I was pleasantly surprised at how eager to help the floral staff was and how big of a selection they had. The woman there, Amanda, was open to anything I wanted and made all sorts of very helpful suggestions. She was pleasent to work with and really made me feel special. And, mais oui, the price is right. Wedding flowers for $150? Oh count me in. This is what set Wegman's apart - the staff are some of the best people I've ever spoken with or worked with. Plus one million for the help. Also, as a temporarily wheelchair bound person, I can assure that this is an accessible store, as much as it can be. Some items on the shelf are way to high, but ask any employee and they will jump to help you out. I rated one Wegmans and thought that should do it, no reason to rate others separately. Well I now realize that plan is a fail as they are all set up a little differently with some carrying products others do not. For example the Wegmans here has Loose Leaf Bulk tea (a lot organic and at good prices), it has an Olive Oil filling station similar to what you see at D'Avolio, and also a bigger beer selection than the one I regularly go to. Also since this one is a bit bigger than other locations I go to the produce, bakery, and prepared foods sections seem to offer more space to move around. Might have to start taking the extra drive to go to the nicer Wegmans here. read more

Try to go to Wegmans McKinley in Hamburg to order a cake. After being misdirected three times to the catering department I was tempted to order a cake. Cakes are made elsewhere sent in frozen they don't have printed copies for you to look at what you're ordering . you can't order colored piping on the cake anymore and if you want a physical decoration on the cake other than balloons or flowers you're out of luck. only images available. Also wouldn't let me pay cash for it insisted on a card. All this after I tried to order online but options for occasion were not available. Placed an order for a sub to pick it up tomorrow at 9am. Hiking provisions! Wegmans in Blasdell has always done well for me. Whether it was picking up a sub to go on a hiking trip as was the case on this last visit, or putting together party trays for the lunch and learn trainings I used to host, I've never had a complaint. Woohoo! As good as it gets! Because it really is. Aside from the fact that they keep phasing out brand name products throughout the years and shifting aisles to confuse people, there are no alternatives to Wegmans, and my first Yelp review really proves this. Let me tell you kids, I'm 20 yet I've been going to this Wegmans since I could be pushed inside of the shopping carts (the thing on the cart that you pull and put a baby in). I used to go to the day care (W Kids) every weekend -- everyone knew me, it was a weekly ritual. I was there when the deli was on the right side of the store and there was no such thing as the "Market Cafe," and it was a dark, dingy store to shop in. I've had times when I didn't want to go there...applying to a job there is like applying to Harvard, it's who you know. Disregarding that, after being in a family that has spent probably hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years here and a closet full of Wegmans bags, I will likely miss my favorite grocery store if I leave the northeast. read more

I LOVE WEGMANS!! I never thought I'd feel that way about a grocery store, but western NY was sadly lacking in quality grocery stores in the pre-Wegmans days.......and now we have it all! This has great selection, prices, cleanliness....My only problem (and it's more of a personal failing than a Wegman's failing) is that I often buy MUCH more than I intended. There are so many tempting items offered in non-grocery items that I end up with more tablecloths, Le Creuset casseroles, dishes, etc than anyone really needs - but often at half off, it's very hard to resist! I have friends who complain that the store is too big, but for me it means allowing a little more time and really enjoying the shopping experience - a good trade-off. read more

I'm a midwesterner from the great state of Indiana and let me tell ya we are deprived of the greatest grocery shopping experience of all time! Wegman's is the BEST inside and out. Beautiful looking store. They have an incredible Market/Cafe with a Sandwich deli, sushi bar, house made home style meals, salad bar, asian food, pizza, wings, etc... you can grab those quick eats and checkout at the market exit. Spectacular idea. I understand whole foods and other big name grocery stores does the market eats as well but Wegman's is far better. Trust me on this. The service is incredible as well. I hardly waited to checkout after I walked around in awe for 15 minutes in the store. Please bring Wegman's to Indianapolis. We need this! read more

I love the store but this review is for the deli department. It seems while other departments in this store run like a fine tuned machine, everyone that works in the deli moves in slow motion. There has to be a more efficient way of slicing deli meats. Sometimes during busy days it can take an extra 15-20 minutes to get deli meat. The presliced packages are never in conveniently weighed amounts. Start packaging them in 1/4, 1/2 and 1 lb packages. Have one person dedicated to filling in low meats instead of each deli worker having to run to the back to restock an item while they are waiting on you. Other Wegmans in the area don't have this problem at the deli. So what is going on at McKinley? I'm not sure who the deli manager is but he is not doing his job as this department has some serious issues servicing their customers. My favorite Wegmans location by far but generally you can't go wrong at any Wegmans. This is the one grocery store that I missed while I lived in Savannah, GA (who knew that it was possible to miss a grocery store?) Wegmans has a fantastic prepared foods section and their beer selection is never lacking anything that I want. They have a great selection of local brews and reasonable prices. The sub shop is always a great go to if you are looking to grab a quick bite but I usually recommend calling in your order because the line does take some time to get through. They also carry a wide variety of organic foods, international foods, and the meat and seafood areas are always cleaned a stocked up. Fresh deli, fresh seafood, fresh fruits and veggies and tons of local product. This store knows how to make the locals happy and we are proud to have a store if their caliber. read more

This wegmans is not my home store but is probably nicer with a wider variety of selection in the premade food section. In just browsing, we saw surf and turf and a whole array of high end dinners premade to take home and pop in the oven. It would be awesome to have that at our wegmans! The crew I was with all got subs and they were on par just as they are always at every wegmans I've ever been to. The staff was friendly, quick, and we got in and out just in time to get to the tailgate we were going to (super close to Ralph Wilson stadium if you are looking to pick up beer and snacks before an event there). read more

OK, OK! I'm a grocery geek. My daughter, in a conversation among friends talking about aging parents and their memory lapses, responded (without hesitation) to the question, " if your dad is lost/missing, where would you look for him?", 'At a grocery store". I cannot come to WNY without a requisite trip to Wegman's for the sheer experience. This store is huge, always well stocked, cheerfully attended and replete with samples of meats, cheese, beers, pizza, sandwiches..... It truly is a destination to visit - and is well known in national grocer circles as a paragon of excellence. Pick any section of a standard grocery and you will find that at Wegman's to be twice as large (with twice the selection). I even found both Sahlen's and Wardynski's New York hot dogs to be on sale. If you go to Wegmans any time after 9am on the weekends its maddening. The isles are jammed with carts, rude people, and no parking spots. Its so frustrating when its full. We recently moved here to WNY (Orchard Park/Hamburg) from Colorado Springs, Colorado for my job. Upon arriving in the area, one of the first things we did was explore the area to find a key component for the family, the grocery store. Essentially we were provided two options and I am not going to make this review about why not to shop somewhere else so let's get in to the nitty gritty of why my family chose Wegmans! As of writing this review we have shopped here about six times. I personally have a few set factors that I use when grading a grocery store. Cleanliness (it really is next to Godliness in my book, who wants to buy their food from someplace that is dirty) Layout (it really has to make analytical sense to me) Pricing (I base this entirely on quality, I am a very frugal person but am willing to pay premium for high quality regardless of brand) Selection (we are not a family that looks for a lot of rare find ingredients but we will occasionally need something off the common items list, such as truffle butter) Upon our first trip to Wegmans we were overwhelmed! This grocery store was larger than anything we were used to shopping. (King Soopers, Safeway, and Whole Foods) But after a few minutes of browsing we didn't feel so small anymore. Cleanliness: On this factor, Wegmans scores a 5/5 in my book. I surely wouldn't put my daughter's pacifier back in her mouth if she dropped it on the floor without a thorough washing first, but then again, I won't do that at home either! Not once did I feel that I was collecting a large amount of dirt or germs as we perused through the store. The floors appeared to be as clean as they possibly can be for a high volume frequent traffic store. The produce and butcher's area in particular were extra clean in my opinion. Layout: In regards to this factor, Wegmans scores a 3/5 in my book. It is somewhat crowded and they could benefit from more square footage! Many areas of the store had "pinch points" where it was a hassle to get through with a cart, especially so if another shopper was trying to come through the same spot. The overall layout is of a good design. We didn't have a difficult time finding almost anything, and when we did I utilized the Wegmans app on my iPhone to search for it, only to find out that our particular store doesn't carry Cream Sherry! The aforementioned truffle butter was easily found with the assistance of the store's staff. Pricing: Price weighs heavily in my book, and Wegmans scores a 4.5/5 in my book. The overall pricing is very affordable with some key items such as milk, bread, beef, and chicken being well below our expectations and also of local competition. Other items; such as specialty items like truffle butter were higher priced than expectation but I will say that paying a little more to buy at the grocery store beats on-line ordering any day! Selection: Selection from Wegmans easily gets a 4.5/5 in my book. Considering there is not a local Whole Foods, and we haven't been able to locate a similar chain of organic shops yet, I was impressed with the selection of organics that Wegmans offers. We do not buy entirely organic, but do so on some items. Furthermore, they don't carry everything that everyone might want, but they do offer a great selection on popular items and even offer many specialty items that you won't find at most local groceries. Other considerations; The floral department was manned with a knowledgeable staff the day we required assistance from them regarding our Orchid that was frozen on the way here. We will be shopping here on a weekly basis and have even factored this location in to our search as we look for a home to buy in the area! read more

We just moved home to WNY from CA. I am amazed at what Wegman's has to offer. I knew they were great when I left 15 years ago but since I've been gone they've REALLY stepped it up. My wife asked me to change our daughter in the Men's restroom because the Women's restroom was "all out of size 4 & 5 diapers." What the heck? As I entered the Men's room I saw a crazy display of accessories needed for changing a little tyke! Each size neatly compartmentalized and ready for using. Wipes too. I felt like I was in a relatives' home using their baby changing station. On Mother's Day my 20 month old and I sneaked out of the house early in the a.m. to get mommy some flowers from Wegman's. The lady who worked the floral station told me she was "embarrassed" how her area looked (I saw absolutely NOTHING wrong with the appearance). She told me of the mad rush they had the night prior and how she hadn't yet had time to get things "back in order." To see an employee of Wegman's take such pride of their work and their work area is amazing to me. I left an area where the protocol was to take the customers' money and shoo them out the door quickly so you could move onto the next dollar - I mean customer. "Service after the sale" is a phrase I had almost entirely forgotten until returning home to WNY and shopping at this Wegman's. It's no wonder they're the "#3 fortune 500 company to work for in America." I will almost never award a 5th star for reviews. I believe by doing so you are essentially saying, "It's perfect and there is almost no possible way for this place to improve anything else further." If you over use that 5th star, it essentially dilutes the rest of your ratings. Wegman's deserves my rare 5th star - without reservation. read more

FIRST THIS REVIEW IS NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO WEGMAN's although Wetman's does have a hand in the partnership between itself and the absolutely hideous delivery service INSTACART. If Instacart is not in your city yet, consider yourself lucky. It's changed my attitude towards a store I used to love and WEGMAN's needs to discontinue use of them immediately. I started using Instacart instead of going into WEGMAN's when I became disabled. It has been a 9 month, 2X a month nightmare. So, a note to WEGMANS. STOP USING INSTACART. THEY ARE GIVING YOU A VERY BAD NAME. First, let's talk about the pricing scam around Instacart. 1) you pay more than in store prices by about 1$ an item. Wow! Secondly, you can sign up for "free delivery" which isn't free at all because it costs $149.00 per year. I found the charge on my Visa card and hadn't even agreed to it, but they are notorious for adding charges at checkout. At check out you are instantly charged a high service fee, the explanation of which is to cover for other customers who don't tip. What the wuck? How is that my responsibility? Then you are charged a Driver's tip. Usually at 10%. Um, if I regularly spend over $200 on overpriced food, why would I give somebody who doesn't even help me carry my groceries up 4 flights of stairs $20 bucks or more. So, oh hell to no on that. All scams. Ahhh, the joy of the Instacart shopper...9 and I do mean 9 out of 10 times I have had to call customer service after either receiving either the wrong item, somebody else's items, a replacement, that I didn't agree to, something I'm allergic to or just straight up plain old laziness and attitude from the shopper. Look, you chose this job. If you don't like it Macdonald's is always hiring. I have extensive notes about my allergies on anything that might be a problem, but hey, why bother reading what the customer wrote? My most recent encounter was with a shopper named Lynn. My concern off the bat was because I had placed the order the night before things, all across the store, would either be out of stock or left over rotting produce from the day before. She ignored that. Immediately one thing after another in the produce section was being replaced with higher priced items. -$3.00 bag of apples became a $9.00 bag of apples. One kind of mushroom was replaced for a batch of rotten mushrooms. Avacadoes came blackened and inedible. Literally all but one item was what I actually ordered. Um, like I said they hadn't restocked yet. She changed my So Delicious brand of yogurt, the only one without corn starch in it to something with corn starch in it. The coupon items were all changed to non coupon items. She did not weigh any of the bulk items so I ended up getting a pound of things when I wanted 1/2 pound. My favorite gluten free tortillas were replaced with some crazy cassava/chia brand that cost $11.00! And they were half the size. When I questioned her about any of this stuff she said to go to the app to get a refund. That's not possible. How about just taking the item out of the cart? She said she would be penalized. When I asked why they would penalize her for doing her job, she stopped all communication with me through chat. WOW! Just WOW! A NOTE TO INSTACART, I CANT WAIT FOR YOU TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS. NOT LIKELY BECAUSE INSTACART IS OWNED BY INSTAGRAM. CHA CHING.... read more

I would seriously consider moving back to the east coast for Wegmans alone. They are THAT good of a grocery store. Once you have experienced Wegmans, no other grocery store will ever compare. My husband won't let me do something crazy like move across a country just for a grocery store, so I'll stay in WA. So you can read in other people's reviews about how much Wegmans is awesome in customer service, selection, price, quality, ect. They really are #1! I super miss the deli, the subs, the market cafe, and the chili (they put cumin in it and it is delicious). I grew up with Wegmans, I love Wegmans, nothing beats Wegmans. But let me tell you the absolute real reason I love this Wegmans: they saved my Mom's life. A few years ago my Mother was here to go to the pharmacy and buy some cat food and a newspaper. She gets her cat food and newspaper and is in line at the pharmacy and suddenly she feels lightheaded and out of it... next thing she knows she wakes up in an ambulance with her purse, a newspaper and the cat food. Wegmans pharmacy staff rushed to her aid and not only did they get her help, they gave her the newspaper and cat food. It's kind of funny and some people might say, "so what Wegman's gave your Mom $4 in free stuff" but to me, that just shows how classy they are. They didn't want their customer to not get what she came for. It turns out my Mom's blood sugar was allegedly almost 1000... anyone who knows about blood sugar knows she should have been either dead or in a coma. It is a miracle she didn't die that day. My Mom didn't even know she was a diabetic until then! If Wegman's pharmacy staff hadn't reacted so quickly and got her help right away, she could have died. Again, you could tell me they just did their job but I really think they went above and beyond for her. When I think of the Blasdell Wegman's, I always think to myself, "they helped and saved my Mom". Even if Wegman's wasn't the best grocery store on earth (which they are!) I would still be a fan forever for helping my Mom. Another thing I love about Wegmans, they make it very easy to buy their gift cards online at their website. Every holiday or gift occasion, I always buy my parents Wegman's gift cards. My parents LOVE them, I love knowing I'm getting them a useful present they can appreciate, and I love supporting a business I feel proud to shop at. Wegman's fan for life! read more

Wegmans is the best grocery store. My parents live near the McKinley and I, sadly, no longer live near a Wegmans. Whenever i come into Buffalo, it's one of my first stops. The prepared foods are incredible. The marketing is amazing and the store sells itself. This time when I went in there was a live band! One of my FAVORITE Wegmans' locations! It's always been clean and well-stocked. Even during peak times of the year, it's actually very accommodating since there is a lot of space in here. I was very fortunate to work like 2 building's down, so I walked here frequently for lunch. One place I always try to avoid is the bakery section!! The cheesecakes, the tarts, the cakes, OM MY! Nice store, however if you call to be connected to a department it would be quicker to send smoke signals or use carrier pigeons. Had to call back twice for the sub shop average of 20 rings each time and then placed on hold for another 4 min. Clearly this chain doesn't need the business nor sees value in hiring enough people to accommodate those who keep their lights on. read more

We stopped by Wegmans on the way home from Florida. We always do it. WNY you are very lucky to have this place. Wegmans has got to be one of the great grocery chains of the world. It is a beautiful store and the prices are much (MUCH) better than Tops for staples. I am a fan of the hot food bar and bakery, neither of which is particularly cheap but rarely disappoint. Very recently they started an "event" of Mexican foods in the hot foods bar. Unfortunately, these foods are poor and take up food-bar-space of many of the very good regular items. They even took their delicious salmon and put hot pepper sauce on it (and curiously, a couple capers). The sauce killed all salmon taste. The empanadas were peculiar mush and the crust was so heavy I had to throw it in the garbage. The plantains were OK. This disappointing offering is to end some time in May, 2015, and then I can go back to the hot food bar for a weekly treat. With rare exception, I find the employees pleasant and helpful. The deli and checkout folk are nearly always nice . and of course, it is a beautiful looking store. read more

Great food especially for being from a grocery store. The subs are some of the best in the area. They are huge and made fresh right in front of you. The sushi is good but a bit pricey. I don't know if I could relocate from here, even tho at times I would consider it. These people actually know what I want more then I do.
