If you know the Aldi formula, this one's not likely to surprise you much. It's a lower-income discount chain that runs locations that are much smaller than the full-service chains like Wegmans and Tops. That means that the things that you get at the swankier stores (huge vegan selections that include 23 SKU's of nondairy milk) are things that you're just not getting here. (I don't think that they have yet heard that fake meat even exists, tbh.) What you do get from Aldi is a fairly big and incredibly cheap array of produce along with odd quirks like chain-exclusive brands of beer that are obviously knocking off better-known national products but that are often pretty good and, once again, very cheap. Sure, the produce is past its prime half the time, but you just buy other stuff on those days. They also carry house brands of all kinds of canned and bagged stuff, so it's worth experimenting to see what's a find and what's inexpensive for cause. Staffing is pretty care-bones at all the Aldi stores that I've been to, so expect a hefty wait at checkout. This one's slightly more organized than the one on Elmwood, but still expect to have to do your own hunting if you're looking for something specific. You may also end up with an odd lawn chair or swimming pool, as all manner of odd junk ends up on clearance here. It's like a supermarket with a dash of Marshalls thrown in. The parking lot at this one is bigger than the one on Elmwood, so park in the back to lessen the chances that someone will open the door of their rusted out 1995 Chevy Impala into you. Also, to follow up on that stunningly classist remark above, you're going to get panhandled on the way in an out of this one. It's either a Buffalo tax or an opportunity to practice eye contact-avoidance, as you see fit. This location was recently renovated but it still doesn't compare with my regular location (Maple Rd). There was a lot of empty shelf space, and I wasn't sure why that was. Also, they only had one register open with literally over 10 people in line and 1 lady yelled to ask the cashier if they could please open another register, I've never seen a line that long at any other aldi, so I'm not sure if they were short staffed? Anyway, I would stop here again since they had what I needed in stock, but this wouldn't be my first choice aldi since they had a lot of empty shelf space. read more

So I'm here about once a month. It's closest to my house so usually I'm here for one thing only. It has times of day it's more crowded than others, and sometimes the checkout line is very long. Which has resulted in me walking out before even picking up the one thing. I don't know why they don't have more checkout people sometimes. I've been to this Aldi about 1000 times. I know it inside & out. It's usually well stocked & always busy. Very rarely could I just run in & out. The lines are always so long & only a couple cashiers are pretty quick. The manager , idk if she's still there or not, but she was great. She knew EVERYTHING about this store & how to run it. She was a hard worker. The prices are good The items are great & I can usually get the majority of my groceries here. read more

Great location on Main St. and easily accessible. Large parking lot and the NFTA LaSalle metro stop is a 30 sec walk away. Always a great experience when I come here. It has everything I need with even speciality items that rotate through the store and also at affordable prices. Either bring your own bags or use their cardboard boxes since each bag is 10cents and can really add up. In terms of fresh vegetables, I suggest going in the morning to ensure that you get what you want. According to an employee there, they put out what they get shipments of in the morning, run out by closing time and this helps to decrease waste and maintain low prices. I stop by this store whenever I am in the area to take the train which is next door. The store does a decent job for its busy location. They have most of the items. The lines are almost always absurdly long. There is also always a security guard who is friendly and helps direct the indoor traffic to the checkout counters. The check out workers do a pretty good job with speedily checking out the customers. read more

I was denied entry to the establishment because I did not want to use their cart. During this pandemic the most important thing is stocking up and having food. However at Aldi it seems like you aren't allowed entry if you can not use their cart. RIDICULOUS. I have no gloves nor do I trust the sanitization of their carts. I came with my own shopping bag. How is this a health risk if utilize my shopping bag??? I guess people are making senseless rules that have nothing to do with helping limit the spread of the virus. It makes no sense to me. I was told by a worker who was giving carts out that I would not be able to check out without a cart. And as a result of this I was turned away and had to go elsewhere. Let me tell you, my first experience of Aldi wasn't quite one to write home about. I visited my first Aldi at their Thruway Mall location shortly after it first opened. Children marching down the aisles unsupervised, canned items with dents in it...I decided to pass after walking just two aisles. Used to the mega-store experience with a lot of choice, I stepped into this particular Aldi to get some milk and bread on the way home from work. I didn't feel like walking all the way to University Plaza from UB, and I definitely didn't feel like walking back to the train station to get the subway heading home. I'll manage with a quick side trip into the place that sits where Ponderosa used to sit. You bastards!, I thought. Number one, I walked in the door and started down the first aisle. Yay! I see milk in the near distance. I saw the price, too. I wipe my eyes. Do I see the price of a GALLON of milk for under $2.00? I look over the dates and see at least a two week expiration date. Score. I start walking across the back of the store, sneaking stares at other items. Do my eyes deceive me? They ARE a lot cheaper than Tops! And really, I don't go out of my way and buy Kraft cheese. I'm an off brand kinda person on certain things. Dairy, being one of them. I think to myself, give it a try. If I don't like it, I don't buy it again (to my delight, the stuff was just fine). I get to the bread section and look over the bread offerings. Nice price! I get that and some packaged bagels. The same intention, I buy. If I no likie, I don't buy again. I go to the register, and get treated by a person that actually breathed, AND smiled. Another score. I hate awkward waits in line with a person that doesn't acknowledge that I even exist. That was in October. My first month on Hertel in September found me hitting the Dollar General, or Dash's Market. Both, nice places. Similar employee enthusiasm. However, the price is what's getting me to continue shopping at Aldi. A trip to Aldi allows me to afford a treat by getting out once a week in my neighborhood...something I love to do for Hertel Avenue. I can get a goat cheese, arugula and cherry tomato frozen pizza for under $5.00; I can get celery, carrots, and broccoli for under $1.00/pkg (at least HALF off of the competition) and walk out of there with some money still in my pocket. Yes, I'll still go to Dash's, Tops and Dollar General for certain things. But for basic week-to-week trips, it's gotta be Aldi. And this place is CLEAN. Short and sweet: Cheap groceries. As a self-proclaimed "bawler on a budget," I have come to love Aldi. I pretty much only buy essentials and sale produce here. Their produce can be hit or miss, but if it ain't fresh then I just don't buy it. In general, their prices are always lower than anywhere else. I'm not sure what Tim T. is talking about as I haven't noticed huge price differences between Aldis. It seems that their staple products are about the same price (milk, eggs, etc.), but other items (romaine lettuce, portabello mushrooms) are often cheaper. I'm guessing the "exotic" produce doesn't sell that well at this location so they drop the price, which is a bonus for me. This location is always busy.The staff is also pretty friendly here, which is not always the case at other Aldis. I also appreciate some of the green packaging they use at Aldi. Go environment! In sum, I'm an Aldi fan, and I will keep shopping here until I get a significant raise. :) read more

Excellent grocery store. Smaller selection than a bigger grocery store, and yet, every single thing they carry is top quality and great prices. I consistently pay at least $20 less per order than at, for example, Tops or Wegmans. Once again, the quality of ALDI products is AMAZING. They have an incredible selection of "fancy" cheeses. Hummus, make-your-own Gyros kit(make five Gyros for under $7!!! complete with Tzetziki sauce), specialty German food(sauerkraut, bread, beer mustard). I keep finding new things to get excited about. Aldi's carries all the basics you could want or need. This is a German based company with solid core values, which is why they close on holidays, close at 8pm nightly except Sunday, when they close at 7pm. I love that they pay their employees a livable wage. This is a no frills store, however they carry the highest quality food and non-food items. There are certain days that are better to shop than others. For example, if you want the freshest produce, you might want to ask when produce deliveries are at your particular store. You will need to bring your own bags (environmentally friendly) and a quarter for your cart. This is to discourage folks from leaving cart in parking lot + they don't have to hire someone to gather carts. They accept cash, SNAP, and debit. Do not try to use a credit card. They do not accept credit cards. It all adds up to massive savings for you. Take the Aldi's challenge and give it a try. You will be amazed at what you save. P.S. Aldi continues to surprise and please me with their consistently high quality and low prices. The produce can be hit/miss, (usually a hit) and please know they get a truck every day with fresh produce. I was there late on a Thursday, my bad. best prices in town on: applesauce, Greek yogurt, eggs, milk, frozen salmon (8-4 oz. fillets shrink wrapped for less than $1.00 a serving) spinach, sardines, rolled oats, quinoa, yams. probably lots of others as well, these are what I regularly buy. staff is always friendly and Orsalya is the best cashier EVER. this aldi also has seasonal items, pool toys, picnic items. we recently got a new asst. mgr who came over after 17 years at Wegmas. He confirmed by suspicions about the "Burmans" mayo. It is Hellman's. made in the same plant, just goes down a different conveyer belt for packaging. same with their Oats and the Aldi brand of Bisqjick. made by general mills. probably not here in the buff, but only the packaging is different. very interesting. read more

I tried shopping there today, since I am a filthy poor medical resident and searching for bargains. I will not return again. Admittedly, the prices are cheap (79 cents for a loaf of white bread). That's about all it had going for it. The selection is total garbage. They lacked basic things like aluminum foil, for example. The staff is incompetant as all get out. The place had 3 or 4 aisles, but the stocker assured me said aluminum foil was in a specific place, yet none could be found (nor any labels indicating said foil was obtainable at any point). The lady who threw my groceries onto my cart stacked them too high and I dumped my blackberries across the parking lot (my fault for not paying attention to a poor stack job). The staff is also rude as all get out. The guy in front of me pulls away with a cart, but leaves a 2nd one behind right in front of me. The woman behind the register says to me "to push it up and just leave one here". I push my cart up to receive my groceries and put the extra cart a little to the side. She glares and yells "You dont listen!", as if I'm supposed to know that "here" refers to where she directly deposits groceries as opposed to anywhere else in close proximity that qualifies as "here". At this point I was trying really hard not to cause a scene and blow up at being condescended to by the grocery clerk. They also don't accept credit cards, so I had to pay with my debit. Judging by the clientelle there food stamps is the customary method of payment. TL/DR Summary: Forget Aldi's. Spend your hard-earned cash elsewhere. This is a C string supermarket chain that thinks cheap prices make up for terrible selection, staff, and degradation. read more

This ALDI is a scam. Their prices are consistently higher by about 30% for most items compared to other Aldi's. Milk here sells for about $2.45 when the Aldi at East Amherst and Williamsville are about $2.05. Eggs are about 30 cents/doz more and whem most Aldis are selling Cauliflowers for 99 cents this ALDI charges $2:45. The regular items like cranberry juice and orange juice are about 30% more expensive.Its much better to shop at a full service store like Wegmans or the ALDIs at East Amherst or Williamsville. Both are about only 20 minute drive and the $2 extra gas you spend is totally worth it. read more
