Thank you to everyone who is working at Wegmans today! I ordered meals for pick up today (Thanksgiving). I have to say 11 out of 5 stars for customer service and "flow". They definitely prepared for ease of pick-up and convenience... The floral arrangements were so vibrant, I, of course, purchased a beautiful boquet! for a friend. A special "shout out" to Kathy, she helped me at the register. My arms were full with extras like whipped topping and milk. I thanked all of the employees working today. Prices are going up every week. plus the prepared foods , the portions got smaller but the prices are high, especially for pasta dishes. This chain is not anymore as fair prices, they became the highest in the area, including Whole foods!!!! read more

Why would I take the time to write a grocery store review? Because I, like many other people, have grown sick and tired of rude staff while I'm expected to pay higher and higher prices. We just needed our flower bouquet wrapped. We asked. On what planet the employee was from that she's never heard of such a thing as having a bouquet of flowers wrapped, but she immediately tried to dismiss us, "you can just take the container of plastic" (which was a cup full of water). No thank you, can we JUST have it wrapped? I made a comment to my spouse that I have never had such a difficult time just getting flowers wrapped - to which another employee aggressively retorted "what's the problem?" after eavesdropping and inserting herself in my conversation with my spouse. I told her we were just trying to get our flowers wrapped and the employee didn't want to seem to do anything. To which she replied "I was standing right here and I heard". And she walked away. No "sorry about that", nothing. Thanksgiving time, no less. She may talk to her kids like that, but not us. These employees who work in the main store have become more and more disgruntled acting, and I will certainly miss the friendliness of the fish counter, and some of the check out clerks. But there are just too many options to deal with this BS. A brand new Giant, Whole Foods, markets, etc. No more money at Wegman's. read more

We have been shopping, almost exclusively, at Wegmans in Allentown, since the day they opened. We used to love this store and raved about it to friends in other parts of the country, who were not fortunate enough to have a Wegmans near them. Today, it isn't even close to the same business. Maybe after Mr. Wegman passed, the rest of the family decided to focus on profits over people. They have cut out all of the nicest things about the store. Their excellent, name brand items, have all but vanished. Fresh baked breads are now brought in frozen. The bread oven isn't used anymore. The wonderful coffee bar, with the extraordinarily friendly staff, who I really enjoyed talking to, is replaced by vending machines. The cafe, where we had "date night" for as long as it was open, was closed and never reopened. The player piano that used to be upstairs where you could enjoy a meal in that bright, welcoming dining area is gone. I used to bring our kids there for "special lunch", that came in a cute pail. The "Kids Place", where the staff treated my kids like their own, is a thing of the past. The cashiers who used to banter with customers, because it seemed everyone went to the same few favorites, are gone. Everything that made the store personal, and many of the opportunities for customer interaction, are gone. The people at the deli seem to be in such a hurry to slice meat for uses other than the customer in front of them, that they forget what they are really there for. I have waited for them to finish slicing piles of meat and cheese, that were put aside, not given to a customer. When asked to have bread sliced, the people in that department seem annoyed to have to stop what they are doing to help customers. The department with the best staff, is produce. They always go out of their way to help find something, to check on out of stocks by going to the back to look for what we need, to greet their customers and show where something is, and they never seem to be bothered by questions. The produce itself isn't great. We have started going to small, local places for produce, because we are tired of throwing out so much that goes bad within a few days of getting it home. We are exploring meat and poultry options because theirs contain antibiotics. I am so sorry that this family owned business seems to have forgotten who got them to where they are: their customers. read more

When it comes to meat, dairy, produce, seafood, and bakery (except no crusy bread), Wegmans is top notch! Sure you can source your food for less, but I'm cheerful to pay a little more for the quality Wegmans consistantly delivers. When it comes to seafood - their selections are far more quality and close to comparison prices. Same goes for their meat quality and selection. The differenc is highly noticeable, while costing just a little more. Their seperate cheese department has choices from all over the world! There is no question you get what you pay for and not a product that doesn't originate from the country of origin. Olive bar deserves accolades too. I've tried other seafood places plenty of times, and always regretted it because it just doesn't compare to Wegmans. I don't eat steak often in my senior years, but Wegmans prime, dry aged in store, beef tastes better than any other sore/restaurant. I stopped ordering steak when dining largerly due to dissapointments. I just wish they learned how to make crysty french bread! read more

I like the Value Pack meats which offer much more quality meat for your dollar than any other area grocery. And their specialty sections like the cheese department have huge selection and things you won't find elsewhere. Plus, the staff are super helpful and friendly. BUT: I am getting frustrated with the general grocery section. Perhaps I shouldn't complain, because I save so much money in that area compared to other places. But I'm so tired of the lack of selection, which seems to continue to shrink with time. Some major name products I can get anywhere else are just not there, or were but their buyers decided to take them off their shelves, causing me to make extra stops at Giant and Weis. Example: Goober Grape, which is very handy for travel with kids. Vlassic Pickles which I prefer to Mt. Olive and their inferior store brand that fills their shelves. Vlassic pickles! Come on.... Or the Pepperidge Farm Strawberry bread that everyone else still has until autumn, but mysteriously disappeared from Wegmans shelves early. I'm also getting sick of picking my way through stock carts loaded with boxes, both empty and full, in the middle of aisles and often unattended during the most crowded times of business. And then the bags... I am not against their trying to help the environment by eliminating plastic bags, but charging me for the paper ones is insulting. I know it's only five cents, and I know all of that goes to charity, but FORCING me to donate is a slap in the face. There's other ways to contribute. Why do you insult someone who spends around $800 a month in your store by not offering the courtesy of bags to carry your stuff to your car and into your house? How long before they are charging 25 cents and making you leave a deposit to use a shopping cart like a cheap Aldi? Yes, there's the reusable bags, but sometimes I forget to bring them. On top of this, they eliminated the warm community center aspect of the stores-- no more baristas in their coffee shop, just machines. No more centralized cafe and seating that made Wegmans a great meeting place for friends and family. It's disappointing. For now, I'm saving money and still on board. But if they keep going this route, I might start choosing to pay the difference. read more
