One of the most beautiful spots in Zion. Weeping Rock delivers stunning views, cool shade, and a refreshing mist that feels amazing on a hot day. The contrast between the dry desert surroundings and the lush hanging gardens is remarkable. We visited on June 22 under nearly perfect conditions. It was hot elsewhere in the park, but cool and comfortable beneath the overhang. The short hike is easy enough for most visitors, and the payoff comes quickly. If Yosemite's Tunnel View impresses with its immense scale and grand panorama, Weeping Rock captivates in the opposite way. It feels intimate and immersive, placing you directly beneath a living sandstone wall where water seeps from the rock and nourishes a hanging garden in the desert. The dripping water, carved alcove, and dramatic canyon backdrop create an atmosphere that feels almost magical. It's a small stop with an outsized impact and one of the most memorable places we visited in Zion. read more

This isn't a hike so much as a nice uphill walk. There are some fun signs on the paved path that teach you about the plants and animals though which I thought was fun! The damp/weeping wall at the end of the hill is pretty because of the vegetation growing there, and the water that drips from above the cliff face feels very nice and cool (like it's raining!). On a hot day, it's a nice spot after going up the steep hill. Reminds me a lot of Alum cave bluffs in smoky mountains national park if you've been. Overall - this hill takes like 10-15 mins to ascend if you walk fast, so it's an easy pit stop. Might as well drop by if you have the time :) read more

Weeping Rock trailhead just recently opened up again and glad we got to try this hike. Short hike (probably less than a half mile from the bus stop), but it can be kinda steep in some places. The payoff is worth it. Nice cool, dripping water hitting you as you hike up under the overhang. Great views and not too crowded. Quick little hike in Zion, but one I'd definitely recommend. read more

We spent a day at the park. We did some of the easy hikes and looked around. This was a hike to a water fall but at this time of year it was some sprinkles off the rocks. You got sprinkled on a bit but not soaked. It was pretty view under rock ledge but the waterfall wasnt good. But fun short easy hike .. saw some turkeys and deer. read more

A nice easy trail for beginners. A little bit of an incline, but only about a half mile round-trip. Beautiful scenery, but do you prepare to get dripped on a bit from the weeping rock! I would caution that the stairs on the last portion of the walk are in rough shape and require a little caution. Wear sensible shoes that have a bit of a tread. Another trail in Zion! It was okay but I really wouldn't do it unless you have time. It's only about a mile round trip I think. We only took 15 minutes to go there and back. It's a little underwhelming. A very steep climb, then when you get to the top, there's a little indention on the wall, like a very mini cave, and water is falling from it but just like trickling rain. It's alright but I was expecting something insane haha so when we got there we had a "this is it?" Feeling. It doesn't take much time, but is steep for an underwhelming view. It was kind of cool but it just felt like standing outside in the rain without getting wet- like being on the backside of a waterfall but it is far from a waterfall. I'd say it's 6/10, unique but nothing crazy! read more

Be prepared to get a little wet... The Weeping Rock trail is a well-maintained paved trail, easy and short... my kind of trail since I'm not so fit. It starts off at the parking lot then we crossed a stream. Before the trailhead splits there is a ranger at the footbridge that can answer your questions or concerns. And so we headed to our left to begin the trail. By going the other way we would've ended up at the other trailheads which are the Hidden Canyon, East Rim and Observation Point Trailheads. The Weeping Rock is a classic Zion hike and is only a half-mile round-trip, which is the shortest trail in the park, but it is moderately steep and slippery on some parts because water falls down on the metal steps. Also, be prepared to get a little wet, on the hottest parts of the day this is refreshing. This trail is one of my favorites because of its beauty, location and short length. According to the ranger the weeping is from above where Echo Canyon, one of the parks many slot canyons is located. Continuous water "weeps" out of the Weeping Rock alcove, keeping the moss and fern-covered eave of an overhanging cliff moist. The panoramic views were beautiful and amazing. The running water were like rain. We stayed here for awhile appreciating the beauty while taking lots of photos. Well worth this short stop. This is a magnificent little walk, just a bit treacherous in the winter. Not only was it loaded with black ice and thick layers elsewhere, once we finally reached the top, the weeping part (icicles everywhere--beautiful) were dropping all around us and crashing, almost pummeling us on the head. My daughter screamed in sheer panic as we made our way, ever slowly, down the trail to safety. You will definitely get wet in the summer and if you go early enough in the winter, it's super beautiful and dramatic with all the icicles hanging. Just go before noon so they don't start to melt and drop on your head! I recommend some steady footwear as well so you don't go sliding right down the hill. read more

Vision and foresight. An eye on the future generations. The ability to sacrifice a little each day in order to preserve something for everyone for every day to come. That's what the national parks represent, and I keep discovering how wonderful they are and how thankful I am for them. Had I just done the one hike earlier in the day, I would have gone home happy. Honestly, all the hikes here are spectacular and I can't get enough of them. But my group decided to press on for one more short hike and we chose Weeping Rock. I had been at the trailhead before, but never taken the short jaunt up the hill to the actual, um... weep. It's a casual walk and this hike is a favorite of little ones. They will be challenged a little, but you do cross a bridge, and get some real trail, and then make it up to the Subway-esque tunneling under the rock overhang for a good view of the water that comes dripping out of the cliff above. The main attraction is this phenomenon of water from the mountain above that has run through tiny channels and come drip drip dripping (weeping) out of the cliff above. You can go underneath it, and there's a well worn railing and stairs that takes you right to the cliff wall. You can also, as some do, stand underneath a portion of it and try to catch it in your mouth. It's fun! But I don't recommend drinking the water. You may get a little wet, and I think that ranges from sorta wet to more wet, depending on the season and rainfall. Watch your kids--it can get slippery. There are a few precipitous points, but it's only a half-mile round trip so it will be a big win if they're little and you're trying to train them into hiking. The shuttle stops right here at the trailhead, and this is also the trailhead for the Hidden Canyon Hike (listed separately on Yelp) which is supposed to be spectacular. You can see the switchbacks up the canyon between the walls, and I fully intend on coming back to do this, perhaps with another passionate hiker who wants to see the parks one hike at a time. Besides the weeping, don't forget to look up and look out at the views. They're really remarkable, even though you only gain about 100 feet in elevation on this ascent. The national parks have become an important part of my life, and will be even more important in my future. I want to spend sunny days on the trail, nights by the fire, and days at home hunkered down looking at maps and dreaming about the next big trip. It's the big, glorious experiences as well as the little tiny ones like this fun little hike that make me grateful for the vision of the national parks pioneers. read more

I definitely recommend taking a detour to Weeping Rock before or after the hike to Observation Point. It is a short walk. The trail ends at an indent near the bottom of a rock wall of a mountain. The end of the path brings you under the top of the indent, which is like a ceiling. Water runs down the wall so small droplets drip over the top of the indent and on to the path. Accordingly, the drops of water are like tears and why that point of the park is called Weeping Rock. Moreover, it is offers a gorgeous vantage point looking back south into the valley. For all those reasons, it is a unique spot in Zion that provides amazing views without a strenuous hike. If you have plans on checking out this popular trail, scratch that. Weeping Rock as of 2 weeks ago is closed indefinitely. There are no signs or anything indicating it at park entrance nor the Visitor Center either. I only knew because I checked the nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/conditions.htm and happened to talk to one of the engineers having coffee who confirmed it. So the shuttle bypasses Shuttle Stop 7 altogether now since there's boulders too that block the parking lot. Our shuttle driver had said when the erosion happened, sand , debris had hit one of the busses and some riders were injured. Observation Point is also closed. read more

The name says it all! What a beautiful location that makes you want to weep from happiness. Sometimes beauty can overwhelm you... This isn't a hike. It's a very short 10-15 minute walk however it's very steep so prepare to use all those leg muscles! The trail is gorgeous surrounded by greenery everywhere you look. Once you get to the first part of the rock you can feel the mist in the air from the weeping. It's pretty spectacular! The closer you get it becomes cooler and cooler and finally you are right under it. I stood there for several minutes and didn't want to ever leave. The air is crisp and cool and when the sun is shining over this location in the middle of the day it's almost too pretty to be real, but it is and was! You could see the reflection of the sun in every drop and it looked like little rainbows dropping down on you. It was surreal... This place is 100% worth seeing when you visit Zion. No joke. We were there on Halloween and there were very few people in the park with unbelievable weather. I can understand complaints coming in about the park being crowded but I guess we were just extra lucky. At this stop you can also go to other trails that are much longer and worthy as well but I still think weeping rock is worth the stop. It was intensely beautiful... read more

This trail is steep, but the distance is short and the pay out it amazing. Once you see the rock weeping it's pretty breathtaking. My four kids, ages ranging from 4-10 years old were able to do this trail without any problems. None of us were really wearing recommended shoes for hiking either. If a 4 year old can do this trail in Converse, you can too and it is definitely worth it! read more

An easy 15 minute round trip stroll. This trail is paved and easy! A lot of people go to Weeping Rock and leave thinking, "ehh...it's not so great," but it's called Weeping Rock for a reason! The highlight of the stroll is not much of getting a good view of the park, but more about appreciating the rock itself. Water trickles down from the rock and it's pretty cool to go under the curtain of water droplets. There are several hikes to choose from in Zion and I think this one is worth the easy 15 minutes. You may feel overwhelmed with time constraint, but you can definitely stop by before leaving the park on your last day. read more

Although this is not really a hike, I really enjoyed the walk and scenery of the Weeping Rock. It is about a 10-15 min walk from where the shuttle stop until you reach the Weeping Rock. It is a little steep with incline but its not really that bad. The reason behind the name Weeping Rock is because there is water constantly seeping out of the rocks. It basically "rains" all the time at the Weeping Rock. This place makes up for great and very unique photos and its a nice, family friendly "hike". read more

A MUST DO. The view from this hike is unlike any I've ever seen before. 90% of the hike is uphill but its super short. My brother and I were surprised we had reached the top already in that short amount of time. You will look out and see something that looks like a painting... I couldn't believe it was real! Got off the park shuttle and took the short trail to Weeping Rock. It goes uphill a bit, so not necessarily for the elderly or infirm, but great for everyone else. You go behind the high waterfall, but don't get wet. The porous sandstone below the waterfall drips water and creates interesting colors and hanging plant life. Easy to get to and very interesting. A must at Zion for sure. read more

Honestly after tackling angel's landing, this hike wasn't all that...it's only 0.4 miles, very short. There wasn't much water coming out of the rocks when i was there may 22nd 2019. Kids friendly. Better go to the hike by zion lodge and see the waterfall. read more

The view, AMAZING! The Temperature, 25-30 degrees less than the super hot desert air blowing up the canyon. The Atmosphere, Relaxed AF and peaceful beyond belief. The Result, I could totally chill here for ages. What is this place? Its super easy, its a natural seep from solid rock. Its so short even I could make this hike. Seriously its one lap around a football field, if that... but so worth it to say the absolute least. I can still picture the fantastic view and the feeling of serenity that it imparts on its visitors. This is one of those super rare unbelievably awesome places to visit and experience. I highly suggest that you do both. I want to go back again right now to be honest, but i am close to a 1000 miles away from it now. Those views though. so delicious that I can taste them. read more

Don't be fooled by the moderate rating. Yes it's uphill. But it's only 1/4 mile. Paved the whole way. And many interpretive signposts along the way. When you arrive at the top, you see more of a spray mist than waterfall. You can walk under the drips, underneath a rock overhang and look at the valley and adjacent canyon walls through the mist. This trail will be one huge icicle in winter. read more

This is a short but slightly steep little hike that can easily be done in 20-30 minutes total. Weeping Rock is at shuttle stop #7, which is also where you will find the trailheads to Observation Point Trail and Hidden Canyon. I made this my first stop on my most recent visit to Zion. Even at 8 am, the area was pretty busy, this is certainly not an 'off-the-beaten-path' type hike. The paved path to the alcove was slightly damp but nothing that should be problematic provided you are wearing appropriate shoes. There are placards along the path with info on the plants in the area. At the end of the trailhead, there is lush vegetation due to the continuous trickles of water that seeps from the sandstone. Walking into the alcove will result in getting slightly damp, which is lovely on a hot summer day. The area near the trailhead would make a great picnicking area, there is a staircase leading to a stream with plenty of shade. There are also restrooms near the trailhead. Weeping Rock is not a hike that I'd recommend anyone come to Zion specifically to do, but If you have a little extra time before or after exploring other parks of the park, this area is worth checking out. read more

Not a hike more like a stroll. The "hike" is about 1/2 mile and super easy. Pretty much anyone active or not active can do this as it is on a paved road instead of loose gravel. Take 10-20 min to see the "weeping" rock then jump back on the free shuttle to explore the rest of Zion. If you skip it due to not enough time it won't ruin your trip. There is plenty to see at Zion and this one isn't necessarily the most exciting. read more

It's a short hike that is paved and steep, a fairly easy hike that can can crowded. With a narrow walkway you'll have to dodge people on busy days. At the end is a small waterfall that you can walk under and cool off on hot summer days. read more

I'm not sure I'd actually call this a "hike" so much as a quick walk up a paved pathway. If you came to Zion wearing heels or flip flops (WHY do people do that??) this is probably where you should head. It's a neat thing to see, especially out here in the desert. Kids will like that you get a little wet walking under the rock. Expect a whole lot of people, too. This is probably the busiest spot in Zion aside from the Temple of Sinawava. read more

Short and easy 0.5m hike, totally worth the couple of minutes it takes to see the view and formation from here. It was way uncomfortable hiking up in the wind and rain, but the fog from it perhaps made the view all the more dramatic. I spent about half an hour here taking photos from one spot, but mostly waiting for the crowds to dissipate to enable to good panoramic shot. read more

It's a nice little walk; short with an interesting destination. We saw 2 doe and a fawn mule deer that come to feed on the local vegetation.

Short trail. I went during the winter, so no waterfall but I bet it's amazing in the spring.
