I would give this company zero stars if I could. Do not do business with Paradise Palapas or…read moreParadise Outdoors. The company changes their name, but they are the palapa company located off of I-45 in La Marque. This is not an honest company and they do not stand by their work. Thomas, with Paradise Palapas donated a $2000 gift card for a silent auction to a PTO at a nearby elementary school. I was the silent auction winner of the gift card. I visited the business and met with Thomas who allowed me to upgrade my purchase to a $5000 palapa with a $2000 credit towards it since I had the gift card. Thomas was scheduled to come out to look at our backyard, but he never showed up. No calls, no emails, no follow-up. He ignored my calls so I had to send him a facebook message. He did respond at one point and apologized for the missed appointment. We rescheduled, but he again never answered my calls. I sent messages again through Facebook, but he ignored those. I ended up calling him from an anonymous number and he FINALLY answered. He informed me that he "no longer works at that company" so my gift card could not be honored. He told me to try and call the number listed on the website, but that number only goes straight to voicemail. I was under the impression from my initial visit that Thomas was the owner of the company, but he now acts like he isn't the owner. I looked up the company and noticed over the years they have had several tax liens against their business from the state of Texas so that tells me what kind of individuals they are. I think it is really bad that they would do this to a PTO organization and an elementary school, money that should be used for children. Galveston County records show the company was established in November of 2011 under the owner name of Samuel Jeffords III. Thomas Jeffords was the individual I spoke with. The BBB online shows the company was established in November 2012 under the owner name of Mr. Josh David Jeffords. In looking at Galveston County records, Joshua Jeffords and Samuel Jeffords have opened and closed several businesses over the years (Clear Choice Contractors and The Cedar Connection). The Galveston County database also shows that many of these individuals have also had child support liens and federal tax liens against them. Just another reason to be concerned with doing any business with these individuals.

Gulf Coast Fence - Parent's home

    Gulf Coast Fence

I live in a small subdivision in Texas City. My "patio home" sits on a very small piece of ground,…read morewithout much yard. In March 2020, I hired Gulf Coast Fence to do two jobs: JOB 1 was to put cedar boards on the backside of an approx. 80' fence along my side yard that runs between me and the neighboring professional building. Gulf Coast Fence had already replaced that fence for the building's owner in 2019, but at the time the owner had elected to have the 2 x 4 horizontal supports show on my side. I didn't like seeing the "ugly" side of his fence along my property line so I hired Gulf Coast Fence to cover my side with matching cedar pickets. JOB 2 that I hired Gulf Coast Fence to do was to tear down and replace the fence across the back of my property, and replace one pedestrian gate in that fence line. Well, they did excellent work on Job 1. They carefully matched the top of my new line of pickets with the existing fence, and professionally hid some "jut out" areas created by wooden posts in that fence line. A very nice job, well done. BUT, Job 2 was not to my liking. Without consulting me, they elected to follow the ground height when installing the new fence - rather than making the top of the fence level by excavating a few inches down under the fence line. The result was that my fence angled upward about six inches between two brick posts that sit about 35' apart. (My 85-yr old neighbor was the first to drive down the road behind the fence; he bee-lined to my house to ask who the heck had installed my fence so badly?) Remember, I'm in a subdivision, not a cow pasture. As for my new gate, Gulf Coast Fence decided on their own to add a "kick board" to the outside rear of it (none of the fence has a bottom board). And it had a six inch gap under it between the bottom of it and the ground. Any small dog could have easily gone under it. (See the photos below for how they did the gate-related work initially.) Well, as you might expect, I asked the owner to return and "fix" this messed up job. He became hateful with me, called me a "crook" (still have that text message) and told me our contract "didn't specify making the top of the fence level". (Which was a very interesting statement by him since I have a photograph of his crew using a 4' bubble level across the top of the new fence for Job 1!) Eventually, he threatened to "take me to court" if I didn't immediately pay the $4500 bill for the work in full. After thinking seriously about going to court, I decided the cost of my attorney and the hassle to deal with this hot head wasn't worth it. So, I settled for him re-doing the gate to my satisfaction, and I called it a day with Gulf Coast Fence. (Knowing I could always write this helpful Yelp! review for you to read.) Fast-forward: Today (in mid-August 2020) I finished paying another company an additional $750 to have the pickets removed between the two brick posts, get the 4 x 4 posts between them cut down to the correct height, and re-install the pickets that could be re-used. (I had to purchase 20 more to replace the ones that couldn't be salvaged and reused due to breakage when they were removed.) So, dear homeowner, my best advice to you is to look elsewhere for good fence installation rather than use Gulf Coast Fence - unless you remember to include the statement in your bid that the fence must be installed "level at the top!"

I called him a couple days later and he asked if I was watching the news. Not sure how looking at a yard to estimate the cost of a fence would risk his health or violate social distancing. He then said he couldn't make it out until the weekend and hung up on me. I called back to ask him not to come and he again hung up on me.
