I recently purchased my bridal dress from Glamour Closet who recommended Wee Scotty. Lynn helped alter/fix my dress, and did a phenomal job and was a pleasure to work with! The price was a little high than I expected, but I'd rather pay a little bit more and know that you're taken care of when it comes to something so important. Price shouldn't be surprise - estimates are given upfront and I honestly don't know if you would get quality work for any less. Also they were very helpful and honest in determining whether I needed spot removal/steaming there or at my destination. Lynne did a wonderful job with my wedding gown alteration! I had bought a used dress that was way, way too big . . . it looked like a different dress (made for me) after she altered it. My child recently completed Wee Scotty's American Girl Sewing Class. During the 8 week class, she was able to create a dress for her doll and herself. The finished dresses were amazing. My daughter was so proud of her dress that she hung it up herself.. in her closet...on a hanger. This class gave her so much confidence. She is so proud to wear the completed dress to school. She really liked and respected the teacher. She loved the store. She made new friends with the other girls taking the class. After class, she would remark how much fun it was and how fast the class went. Updated 3/10/16: Since my review in 2013, my daughter has consistently taken sewing classes at Wee Scotty with Lynne Gallagher. My daughter participates in at least one weekly class a semester, and she signs up for most of the Wee Scotty Summer Camps. Lynne at Wee Scotty is one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. As a teacher, she is encourages her students to create. From sketching to the final hem, she guides her students through the entire dressmaking process. This type of teaching results in an amazing completed product and a sense of pride for the student. When my daughter wakes up and realizes that she gets to go to Wee Scotty after school, she says..."Yay! It's a Wee Scotty Day!" This shows me that Lynne has given her more than sewing lessons. Going to Wee Scotty was the right choice. I bought a used dress online. It was a bit shorter than I would have liked, and it needed to be taken in around the waist. Lynne and her team cleaned up the bottom, took it in and pressed it for the big day. Lynne and Wee Scotty came recommended to me by a friend who is a talented seamstress. If my friend thought Lynne was good, I know she must be. Lynne is clearly an expert and she does great work. She's all business. Perhaps some don't like the efficiency and shortness, but I appreciated it. She tells it to you straight and she really knows her stuff. The work was wonderful and my dress looked great. She had great recommendations for how to treat my hair piece, ribbon, shoes and under garments. I was going to wear one of those strapless bras, and she saved me from it, noting that it would be too hot (Napa in July). She recommended sewn in bra cups, and they were definitely the right call. Thanks to her my dress was super comfortable... I even slept in it! In regards to cost, I don't know how to judge it. All these sort of services are super expensive. All I know is my dress came out perfectly, it was easy to work with them and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Don't let the look of the front of the store sway you. It doesn't look like a place that does great wedding dress work--it looks more like a quilting bee hang out or a place for kids' dresses. I have nothing but great things to say about Lynn, her customer service, and the quality of her work. I did not buy my dress from Glamour Closet like so many others, but because she came highly recommended by them, I figured if she can do the bridal repair work needed on many of the one-of-a-kind Glamour Closet dresses, she could easily do generic bridal alterations on mine. Lynn quoted me at many hundreds of dollars less for the alterations I needed than the in-house alterations woman at the bridal boutique where I purchased my dress. I ended up having Lynn do 3 dresses for me, my church dress, my wedding dress, and my reception dress. I found the reception dress very late and was afraid Lynn would say there wasn't enough time to do it, but without hesitation she added it to my pile and ensured it was ready on time with the other two. In fact, at my last fitting appointment, I asked Lynn if it was too late to further tighten the wedding dress around my bum, and without even a sigh or a second thought, she complied and snuck me into yet another appointment a few days before my wedding to try it on after she had altered it once more. Lynn makes/sells veils, and she didn't pressure me at all when I told her I was probably going to buy one on etsy for cheaper. When my etsy veil broke, I brought it to Lynn at my next scheduled fitting and she willingly repaired it for me and had it ready by my following appointment. When I went to pick up my dresses two days before my wedding, I told Lynn that my fiance failed to get his suit and shirts pressed in time and the dry cleaning place told him they couldn't do it in 24 hours. Lynn saved his butt when she said she would gladly do it, and had it ready for us the next morning. Lynn let me bring my mother, sister, and even our dog to some of my fittings, would laugh and joke with us, would never rush us if we ran over time, and always stayed professional and courteous. Lynn is wonderful at her craft, is incredibly accommodating to her clients, and never makes a bride feel like her problem is something Lynn can't handle. She understands how important it is for the bride to feel like a million bucks on her wedding day, and will do everything in her power to make sure that happens. I left a pretty detailed review about my dress where I bought it at Glamour Closet but Wee Scotty did an amazing tailor job. I got a size 4 italian Peter Langner gown style Louise for less than have the regular price. He is a great designer and this dress was super unique. Not only did she keep the dress as it should be while taking it down to a 00 but she added this amazing 'wonder woman' like strap from the remnants that was so elegant and accentuated the assymetry I loved, giving it an almost greek vibe because I wanted something special but had little to show her getting my ideas on paper. She quoted a price and stuck with it eventhough I think she did a couple extra fittings it seemed to get it just right, which at first I was annoyed cause I was busy but the end result was perfect! So grateful, she may seem rushed sometimes but I honestly felt she really cares to make you happy with your dress eventhough she does fittings all day and it was peak wedding season. Do give her a few months if you have major alterations or need additional material ordered. She took such good care of the dress and her bustle held up all day outside in the redwoods at a ranch house. Thank you!! read more

I was referred here for alterations after buying my wedding dress on a sample sale at Amy Kuschel. I spoke with the receptionist and tried to ask a few questions to get a sense of what it would cost. Even after I described what needed to be done she said that she wouldn't know unless I got a fitting, but that it could be $100-$200. Having never gotten a wedding dress altered before this sounded reasonable to me. Got a call from her confirming the appointment a little later. As I was about to hang up the phone, I asked to just verify the address and gave her the one she had given me before. "oh yeah" she said, " we just moved last week". Isn't that the receptionist's job - to tell customers that they will be at a different location?!? Thus began my apprehension. Then, day of, fitting starts 30 minutes late. Store is closed when we arrive (for scheduled fitting) and then there is one person ahead of us. We wait, for a long time. Finally Lynn comes out and apologizes and takes my dress and me back to be fitted. Can I mention that there is a little dog who joins us in the dressing room, which would be cute except that I have a $1200 dress on and he is rubbing up on me. "Haha" laughs Lynn, "you should leave so you don't get her dress dirty". Not cute. Then she takes at least 2 calls from her daughter and chats away about dyeing Easter eggs. Lynn is nice enough, but my skepticism increases. After the fitting, Lynn writes the estimate on the piece of paper and hands it to the receptionist to have me sign an agreement. Receptionist explains what is included and then ... $450-650. What?!?! I ask for an explanation. The receptionist is clueless and gets Lynn. I have to wait another 20 minutes for her to come out and explain what went into the estimate. I tell her I was told $100-200 on the phone. She says that from looking at the dress, what needs to be done is standard stuff, and the minimum would be $450. She names the alterations that I said over the phone to the receptionist, when I was unable to get an accurate estimate. She also says that it's just an estimate, because "the girls" log in their hours. Wait - so Lynn isn't even doing the work?? It doesn't make sense to me that I would take my dress to be tailored by multiple nameless people, who didn't even do the fitting. I wouldn't want to leave how much I pay up to "the girls". I was pissed that I could have gotten this estimate with her just looking at the dress instead of charging me $38 for a fitting (would have been free if I used their business), and that the receptionist didn't know enough to be able to give me an accurate one over the phone. I was also pissed that even though the person before and after me got the exact same estimate, that the receptionist couldn't even answer the question, "what is the general range?" on the phone beforehand. Considering she does all the billing, I would think she would know best. The lateness, the dog, and cell phone calls in the middle of the fitting would have been acceptable if she was offering a whole lot less for an estimate. But she is asking way too much money to be so unprofessional, and to have a receptionist who doesn't seem to understand anything about pricing. I learned more in that hour-long ordeal than I think the receptionist knew about tailoring. read more

This lady is a true nightmare I advise brides to beware and not come here for alterations. She's rude and money hungry. You can find places in SF who do better jobs for waaay cheaper price. She currently is holding my wedding dress hostage because she thinks I owe her more money for a dress that is not finished. I no longer wanted to work with her and it was hard for her to understand. She quickly then did alterations and now wants me to pay her more after only one fitting. Luckily for me I am blessed enough to have another dress but this lady truly doesn't care for her clients. I hate to bash someone's business like this but truly truly the worst experience I've had my entire life.. Stay away trust me. My wedding dress is still sitting in the back of her closet room and she doesn't care until I bring her more money for a dress that's totally not complete. She quoted me up to 750. I bought my designer dress at Glamour Closet and was recommended to Wee Scotty by them. The dress fit me perfectly everywhere except the length. They charged me $1200!!! Such a rip off and such poor attention to detail. As someone who sews, I could have done a better job. I also asked to have the bust area be more modest. I went to pick it up the first time and it was allegedly pressed, when I expressed my dissatisfaction, I received a rage-aholic email from Lynn. Her team allegedly "re-pressed" the dress. They actually just finally did it. I was humiliated my entire wedding as they never sewed in the internal bra. I am busty and everything was hanging out on my wedding day despite how much tape I used. SUCH a waste of money!! I also received another rage- aholic email from Lynn the day of my wedding saying "I had to come in the next day". Wtf!? Bare in mind she knew my Dad was dying. Like I needed her years of rage issues. My dress was ruined by them that fit me perfectly originally. Customer service is not here and NO talent!! This place is a rip off! DO NOT WASTE your money on these rude people. I will be reporting them to the better business bureau. After I read so many other women being abused by Lynn, I will now certainly be reporting . I bought my wedding dress from Glamour Closet and brought it to Lynne based on their recommendation. My dress had a complex bodice with crossed layers, and they did a great job bringing in the bodice to fit perfectly without creating any ugly bubbling. I found that all the alternations were executed in a very well manner, and Lynn was great to work with. I got my wedding dress altered here and they did an impeccable job. The bustle came out perfect and they made all the little nip and tucks to make me look perfect on my special day. I paid an arm and a leg for it though - literally my alterations weren't alot but I paid more than half of what I paid for my dress! They charge by the hour which is what will get you. They didn't shorten the straps enough after the first fitting so they had to do it again which added another $150 to the cost. The other downside is that I was kept waiting for 45 minutes when I went to pick up my dress (the day before my wedding) - the shop was closed and the owner forgot about my appointment. Good thing I had her cell phone number and she rushed over, needless to say it all worked out and the dress turned out amazing. I would recommend for complicated alterations that you are worried about and are willing to pay for but would look elsewhere for the basic alterations like I had. read more

I looked high and low on the internet for a First Communion dress that would fit my not-exactly-off-the-rack 8 year old for her Big Day that is coming up. Not being catholic myself, I have a little trouble identifying with the importance of the event. But I have no problem understanding that my baby needs to look her best. By chance one weekend in January I think I saw an article about Lynn's daughter Leah at Wee Scotty and her cupcake business. I remembered that the shop sells really cute kids clothes. I actually called them up initially to host a sewing birthday party for my daughter and her friends. But in the course of planning that party the light bulb luckily went off in my head and I asked Lynn to make the First Communion dress. We had a fabulous birthday party, and this past weekend we picked up the dress. It's beautiful! It's exactly what we wanted! My daughter looks so good I actually got teary looking at her. And now my mother-in-law will love me more than she already does because I have brought home a wonderful dress for this important family occasion. I'm actually starting to get it a little more, why this day is so special, and I'm sure I'll be a sniffling mess when it all comes together. Thanks Lynn for doing such a good job for us. I had my wedding dress altered here. Overall it was fine, but pretty expensive (though I did have a ball gown with intricate beading and embroidery). A few days before my wedding I went to pick up my dress and there appeared to be a problem with my bustle. Unfortunately Lynn was not there and the lady helping me had no idea about the bustle. Later I found out that Lynn had a family emergency so I completely understand why she was not there and was appreciative that she called me even though she was dealing with a very difficult situation. I just wish that the people she has working for her are educated on the dresses. I am happy with the alterations, it was just a freak situation, but again a lot disconcerting right before my wedding that the other works do not know about the wedding dresses. read more

Some of the scathing reviews of Wee Scotty are ridiculous. The woman that was horrified when her wedding dress alterations cost more than $200 needs a reality check. The bottom line, Lynne does great work and it is affordable. The negatives (1) the setting could be better. I wish they set the back up so that it was a nice experience aesthetically for the bride and people she brought with her. (2) They seem to be running late a lot, which is fine, but I expect an apology after waiting 20+ minutes, which I did not get one of the times. I can't say enough about Lynne and Wee Scotty. My daughter has been taking sewing lessons at Wee Scotty for the past 4 years (since she was in 5th grade). She has become an accomplished seamstress under Lynne's tutelage. Lynne has taken my daughter under her wing and has really gone out of her way to ensure that my daughter knows how to sew. She has given my daughter increasingly challenging sewing projects and has even helped her outside of normal class time to finish them up (if needed - this only happened once). After a horrendous experience with David's Bridal I was in the hunt for a second wedding dress just 3 weeks before my wedding. I luckily found a beautiful dress at Glamour Closet in SF's North Beach area. They referred me to Lynn at Wee Scotty and I have been extremely satisfied with the quality of service. Lynn was quick to respond and I had an alterations appointment the day after I purchased my dress from Glamour Closet. She had almost all the alterations done in less than a week . What a difference from David's Bridal! I love my dress and the alterations are spot on. Lynn is quick, responsive and professional. Yes it is a bit pricey but completely worth expert work. Also, being on a time crunch I was impressed how quickly all of this was done. She does have a dog so if you have an aversion maybe let her know this. I love dogs so it didn't bother me. I was sent to Lynn by Glamour Closet. First meeting was great, paid deposit. Second meeting, after alterations had been made, Lynn told me I bought the wrong dress. Ok, well let's make it work right? Well sort of. Dealing with Lynn was a roll of the dice. Sometimes she was nice, sometimes not. She's moody, I would not describe her as a team player, disinterested in discussing alternatives to her ideas. I never knew who I was getting. Takes feedback personally, as if I'm not allowed to request alterations to my wedding dress. The real smack in the face was that after the last fitting, before the pressing, she actually instructed me not to come back and have my fiance come and pick up the dress! I honestly started bringing friends with me so others could witness the behavior. When my husband went in to get the dress, they told him that they actually made a f*ing alteration to the dress last second, without telling me and EMAILED ME THE DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING to come in and try it on. Let me repeat, I was emailed the day before my wedding to come into the shop and have a fitting after being told not to come in. Oh and of course this last second alteration resulted in the front being loose. I regret nothing more than going to see Lynn and entrusting her with such an important part of such a special day. read more

My sister had her Marina Morrison wedding dress altered at Wee Scotty, and I had my MOH dress altered here as well. Mine was fully beaded patterned dress that was one size too big, and had no shape. Lynne not only took the dress in, but was also able to change the shape of the dress into a slight mermaid, take fabric off the bottom, and make it the perfect length. After two fittings, the dress was absolutely perfect and looked like it was made for my body. I received SO many compliments on the dress, I couldn't have been happier! read more

Both my daughter and I are taking sewing classes at Wee Scotty. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Lynne is a true professional and a great educator. She motivates, inspires and empowers both of us in our sewing projects - to be creative, confident and to have fun with our sewing. We've made bags, pillows, pajamas, skirts and dresses. My daughter attended Project Junior Runway Camp last year and adored it - she made the most beautiful dress and then modeled this and her pajamas at the end of year fashion show. I bought my dress "off the rack" at Glamour Closet in North Beach, which recommended Wee Scotty for alterations. It turns out, the dress was the right size but needed significant repairs including switching out some of the organza skirt layers, putting in a new zipper, repairing some detailed lacework, etc. The seamstresses at Wee Scotty were fantastic and made the dress look like new after over 20 hours of work.
