Lynn, the owner, is super friendly and nice and helpful, I couldn't help but buy the machine the second she said, "Let me show you how it can make a buttonhole". After receiving a rec to go to Wee Scotty for my wedding dress fitting from Haute Bride, Yelp reviews and various bride friends or their friend-of-friends, I decided to give it a shot. I scheduled an appointment two months before the big day and went in for three fittings. The appointments are super quick so make sure you know what you want when you go in, or any questions you have. I was a little worried about the hasty meeting, but everything turned out fabulous! My dress fits perfect and they altered the bustle to my liking. And, all of this came under my original quoted price, so I was very happy with the result. So much, that I even recommended the place to my mother-in-law for her dress alterations. That's saying a lot! It is pricey, but you get what you pay for. On a side note, I've always wanted to sew and learned they have adult lessons one or two nights a week. Hoping I get the chance to check those out! This review is a little overdue, but I really wanted to acknowledge how wonderful my experience with Wee Scotty was and how thankful I am to Lynne! I got married about a year ago and Lynne did all my wedding dress alterations. We started with a beautiful dress that was many layers of different types of silk and needed to be altered down to fit me. From the moment I met Lynne, I felt like I was in good hands. She spoke with a lot of experience when recommending the best way to alter the gown, but was also very open and willing to listen. She was even very patient with my mom, who dabbles with sewing, when she attended the first fitting and asked a dozen questions. Scheduling with Lynne was a breeze and very reliable - her assistant was easy to contact over the phone, and they were great about getting a Google Cal invite over as soon as an appointment was booked. Lynne was also extremely responsive via email. I had many a long email chat with Lynne, discussing last-minute concerns, questions, and modifications. She was always very quick to respond, even when it was past working hours, so I felt 100% assured throughout the entire process. I had many fittings along the way, to ensure that all of the work we were doing was still how I wanted it, and to make sure that things fit perfectly before she proceeded. I ended up making quite a few modifications to the dress, including adding removable off-the-shoulder sleeves and adding some volume to the bottom of the gown, and Lynne worked tirelessly to ensure they were all done exactly when she promised them. Lynne also worked with me to create a perfect custom, floor-length cathedral veil in a shade to match my blush-colored dress. Boy did she deliver absolutely beautiful results on all of these fronts! My veil was perfect, better than anything I could find in-store, and my dress turned out to be stunning!! Lynne and her team steamed it to perfection, and added a wonderful bustle system. Overall, I am so so happy to have worked with Lynne on this very special project for my big day. Thank you a million times over to Lynne and her team! It amazes me the extremes of 1 star to 5 stars so I'll give 2. The second star is because my daughter did come away with a dress for herself and another for her doll. My review is for the weeklong classes offered in the summer. Parents beware. My daughter just had the most unpleasant week at Wee Scotty. I should have known on the first day when I dropped her off. There were two teenage girls in the store and that was it. No one introduced themselves or welcomed us. I didn't know about Lynne until the third day. We arrived 15 minutes early and she was there but she was not happy with us. I said that maybe my daughter could get a jump start on her dress since she has had to share a machine while others did not have to. Lynne said grumpily that they had to set up. After I left, my daughter said that Lynne barked at her to set up the machine. Needless to say, she was a mean _____ ( 2 possible words that rhyme with stitch) the whole week. My daughter said that she was consistently mean and somewhat abusive in tone. Instructions could be unclear, especially when given by the counselors. I was told Lynne's favorite thing to bark at the girls that they did it wrong and they had to undo their sewing to do it again. I get it. Lynne does not like kids and maybe doesn't like people in general. I once owned a store and dealing with the public started to work my nerves but I didn't take it out on my customers. If the business you offer is instructing children and it absolutely kills you to be kind, then don't do it. Give it up! read more

Only if I can give 0 star, I would not waste this star. I am a first-time bride and do not have high expectations when it comes to wedding dress alternations. But the services Lynne provided for me was under average customer service: 1) She made me going to her shop three times for a wedding dress that fits me perfectly except for some length shortening. And she billed over 11 hours for the work. 2) She is extremely difficult to work with. As a mom with young children and bride to be, my schedule is very busy. But she does not provide lots of options when it comes to alteration times. I would expect someone charges over $600 to shorten a dress to have good service attitude. Yet, she snaps at me when I am 10 min late for the appointment or when she sent me a wrong calendar invitation for alteration. 3) Under-delivery of her alteration service. According to the contract, she was suppose to fix the loose end thread of the embroideries and beading work on the wedding dress. After 11 hours of work and three alteration appointments, upon pickup, I found obvious loose ends and thread sticking out, right at the bosom of my dress. 4) Overcharge of work hours. As I was to travel with my dress to destination, I requested no pressing of my dress. Lynn charged $50 of pressing on my dress, without explanation. What is the worst of the experience was: on the day of pickup, my fi·an·cé and I found out about the unfinished work and over charge, we called her to discuss the matter. She made us waiting in the store for a good 40 minutes and called the police on us. Then she snatched our copy of the contract (with her hand written work hours and billing details) out of my fi·an·cé's hands out of anxiety. Our lovely policemen supported our process of discussion of the pricing and eventually she took out the pressing fee and half and hour of the unfinished thread work out of my bill. It was really not necessary to snatch and escalate by calling the police. It was 10 min discussion but turned into a full hour unpleasant drama. I was not expecting the drama and felt very uncomfortable since I have to delay nursing and pumping milk. I will call Glamour closet to recommended me Lynn and her shop for wedding alternations. I just wish no more bride go through what I went through. It was way more stressful than wedding planning. read more

I had a great experience with Lynne at Wee Scotty. She came recommended from multiple bridal salons in SF, and I can see why. I actually purchase my 2-piece dress online, so there was a fair bit of work to be done to ensure that it fit properly. Over the course of a few months I had 2 alterations appointments, which I scheduled during my lunch break from work. Lynne was prompt and to-the-point, and does her job very well. Dress alterations are worth paying for, in my mind, and Lynne made sure my dress fit perfectly. I had her reinforce a clasp as well, and I felt perfect and snug in my dress on the day of my wedding. Appointments are quick, so plan on 20 minutes in-and-out. Lynne also created a fantastic, simple veil for me, at a much lower cost than I could find elsewhere. My dress was all packaged and steamed for transportation to Napa, and stayed beautifully. Highly recommend. read more

I sought help from Wee Scotty when I couldn't attach a new needle on my sewing machine. I dropped it off 3 days ago but changed my mind when my friend said she can take a look at what's wrong. I called Wee Scotty to tell them I will cancel the repair and just pick it up because there were 3 other machines ahead of mine. What a pleasant surprise when I picked it up to find the needle had been replaced and the parts were attached correctly. Lynette had taken a quick look at it and fixed it right away! Lynne made me cry the day before my wedding and on my wedding day. I just don't understand the positive reviews on Yelp. My wedding was a while back, but everytime I think about it, I get so upset about my wedding dress. Isn't a wedding supposed to be your princess moment? Lynne quoted me about $500 for alterations on my wedding dress. She said the alterations are fairly simple and took down vigorous notes on what needed to be done. First of all, she called to reschedule my fittings not just once, but for both fittings. Just less than a week before my wedding, her assistant called to reschedule my 2nd and last fitting for another bride who was traveling but whose wedding day was further out! The last thing a bride needs at the last minute is an unreliable tailor. I explained to her very clearly what needed to be done on the dress, hemming, redoing the sash and making the dress tight and snug on the bodice. Her hem job was fine. The sash was weirdly sewn on tight and not loose as a sash should be. She didn't seem listen to my instructions on the sash but she did fix it to be better although not great. At the 2nd fitting, she said she needed to loosen the bodice to close the buttons and I told her that I needed the dress to stay snug so the dress didn't bunch up. When I picked up my wedding dress the day before my wedding, Lynne was not there and they told me I could not try on the dress. I mentioned that it did not look like it was pressed and I was assured that it was. I was told to sign a paper acknowledging that the alterations were acceptable or I couldn't take the dress. Was this really fair????? My wedding was the next day, what was I supposed to do?? Turns out Lynne loosened the dress so much that the bodice bunched up. She did not press the dress as all the same creases were there. All my wedding pictures look like I'm wearing a dress that was too big for me. The worst of it? I was charged $830 for an ill fitting dress!! That's $330 more than she quoted me and she didn't do her job. I complained to Lynne but she would not return my calls or my emails. So, I filed a better business bureau complaint. I am putting my warning out there. IF YOU ARE A BRIDE TO BE, DO NOT TRUST YOUR WEDDING DRESS TO WEE SCOTTY. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. My wedding dress, though ordered "in my size", was much too large all over and I needed extensive alterations. In addition to being too big all over, it was a heavily, intricately beaded Hayley Paige gown. I needed a highly skilled tailor for the project. I met with Lynne three times, and she put be completely at ease. She was friendly and her experience showed. Lynne had to take in the straps, three areas around the bodice, the circumference of the skirt, the length of the skirt, add a bustle, add cups, fill in beading to raise the neckline, and I'm sure a host of other things. I purchased my wedding dress at Glamour Closet and they recommended that I take my dress to Galligula/Wee Scotty for alterations and spot cleaning. Since I had paid a pretty hefty amount for my Oscar de la Renta, I figured I might as well pay a bit more to take it somewhere that was promised to be the best. There weren't many alterations that needed to be done, just a slight take in of the corset, the bustle, and then some cleaning. Each of my two fittings were very short and relatively curt. Basically nothing was discussed, not even where the bustle was or how it worked. When I picked up the dress the day before the wedding, it was still wrinkled and dirty. It didn't look like much time was spent on it. When I got to the hotel to hang it up, I noticed that one side of the dress was lumpy and didn't hang smoothly. For some reason, they had shortened the lining and sewed it so there was extra outer fabric. I am not sure why they did that considering it did not need to be shortened at all. Overall, for the price, this place really did not live up to expectations. I would recommend taking your wedding dress elsewhere. read more

At the first meeting she couldn't believe how well the dress fit me. I just needed to hem the bottom, add a simple bustle, and more strongly attach my sash. I was quoted $500 which seemed like a lot to me, but hey, it was my wedding and I wanted to look my best. When I returned for my 2nd fitting I was told Lynne was not there! She stood me up. The woman at the desk did not initially believe me, thinking I had made the error, but after some searching realized I had been correct. While there I figured I may as well try on the dress - thank goodness I did. They had taken in the chest - which was not supposed to have been touched - so that it no longer fit despite my having lost 5lbs since my previous visit. In addition, while they had taken up the length of the gown, they didn't bother to hem the lining!!! On my 3rd visit, Lynne had an attitude despite her having stood me up and made errors on the dress. Due to my busy schedule before the wedding a girlfriend offered to pick up my dress for me and bring it to the hotel where I would be getting ready. She called me leaving a clearly unhappy message. The dress did not appear to be pressed. When she questioned the clerk, she was told it had been and that was that. Fortunatley for me, the Four Seasons concierge worked with my friend and they took care of it such that by the time I saw it the dress was fine. Finally, mid way through my reception, the bustle came apart! Ulitimately, it was a beautiful dress and I had an amazing day, but I certainly did not need the extra stress or loss of extra $$$ that the experience cost me. Absolutely would never go back here. During my first appointment, no one ever spoke to me about a deposit, pricing or how long my dress would take. When my 2nd apt was cancelled at 7pm the night before, I was confused as to why. When digging in further it was discovered that after 2 weeks nothing had been done on my dress. At first the excuse was due to time and then somehow evolved into it being because I did not leave a deposit. I exchanged a few emails with Lynne and this is the kind of unprofessional direct communication I received: "What are you confused about? I said to you all of that in our fitting and you just repeated it all back to me." (when I explained I didn't leave a deposit and no one discussed price with me) "I am sorry about the request but What do you want to do?" (about Lynne wanting to change our 2nd appointment). "There is no need for another's attendance at your fittings. That is your choice and decision to make." (in reference to wanting my aunt to attend my fitting as my mother is across the country) "Until we skilled humans sit down and do the work we don't know the exact time." (when I was trying to find out how long it would take to get my dress done). As you can read, this is not the way a bride should be spoken to during her wedding planing experience. These are not the kind of responses that someone who is a professional should be saying to a customer. I would never go back to do anything here again, not to mention it is very very expensive. read more

I will start positive: I brought in some incredible clothes from the 1960s and Wee Scotty did a perfect job in tailoring them for my size. It also cost about $200 - this is not the place for a bargain. I also had Lynne make the top piece for my 1950s two-piece wedding dress. While the dress ended up photographing beautifully, working with Lynne was a very frustrating experience and at the end of the day, she was unable to translate my vision into the dress I wanted. First off as a warning to all brides: if you want to be able to reach Lynne over the phone and ensure she is on the right track, forget it. I had brought in initial pictures to show I wanted an off-the-shoulder graceful swoop neck top. But I guess she wasn't clear about the vision and instead of calling me, she forged ahead to make a harsh, v-neck top that showed way too much cleavage. She had me come to all these fittings that made no progress toward what I wanted because it was too late to repair anything. I know there are not a lot of alterations places in town, but I would be wary choosing Wee Scotty. read more

Overpriced for bridesmaids dresses. Go to Cable Car Alterations. Also, after spending over $800 on alterations on my Vera Wang wedding dress, I didn't expect my bra inset to look like Madonna's cone bra in her "Vogue" video. During your fittings, please double check the sewn-in bra to make sure it doesn't shift because you want it to stay intact and not be misshapen. On the wedding day, my bridesmaid had to stick her hand down my bra to fix the shape of the bra. Luckily, you don't notice far away during most of the pictures. read more

where i got my wedding dress they recommended two places for alterations, one of which was galigula. i was actually super afraid because i checked it out on yelp and the reviews were negative. i sucked it up because i didnt know anyone else and went in. to my suprise, lynne was super friendly and nice. on top of that, it seemed she knew what she was doing and i trusted her to do the best she could with the dress. the dress fit perfectly. she made sure i didnt trip when i walked and i was out of there in no time! i do think though that she hands off her work to other people. people ive seen working away on the sewing machines. so not sure how much control she actually has over what they do. the only gripe i have is that she marked my dress with a permanent marker. im not even sure what she wrote. i think it was the price? off the tag. when i asked my friend and sister who came with me to the first appointment, they were like oh dont worry its washable marker! but still! i didnt realize what a problem this would be until after the wedding. i took it to a drycleaner and he was super shocked about the marker! he was like who did this? they should never do this! he was worried that it would bleed and ruin the dress when he cleaned it. i guess its a good thing it was a permanent marker so it didnt bleed. but still! argh. im kind of upset and wished i had said something when she marked the darn dress. argh it is expensive as with everything in bridal. read more

I was referred here after purchasing a sample-sized wedding dress from Glamour Closet. I needed to get it altered 2 bridal sizes smaller (size 8 to size 4ish) and the hem needed to be taken in about 4 inches. I moved back to the Bay Area only a couple of months before the wedding, so I didn't have much time to compare alterations establishments. The customer service wasn't great - I had to wait about 15-20 minutes for both my first and my second fittings. Lynne was kind and professional during my visits, though, and the presence of her dog didn't bother me. The final bill was in the $550-650 range. My dress was made of silk satin, so no intricate beading or lace was involved. However, the assymetrical hem of my dress is pretty elaborate, with at least 4 sheaths of different lengths. It fit perfectly at the second fitting with my heels on, and was very comfortable throughout my wedding day. If I could give 3.5 stars, I would. They did a wonderful job on my piece (though I acknowledge the other reviews where the seamstresses seemed to have made mistakes). However, the hefty price and the subpar customer service made for a less-than-optimal overall experience. If you have the time to do comparison shopping, do it. But if you're in a relative hurry, I would recommend Wee Scotty/Galigula. read more

Lynn was recommended to me by the staff at Sak's in NY where I bought the dress. Lynn was wonderful, efficient, and quick. My only grip is that she did not put the satin trim on the vail she made. The final work was flawless and very detailed.
