This review is long overdue. I really did not want to post it and took time (five years) away to breathe and think about it. I'm ready to save time and money for ladies who want to get their wedding dresses altered by Wee Scotty. Here we go... 1). Bought a $10,000 dress from Glamour Closet in SF. 2). Glamour Closet recommended Wee Scotty and to email Wee Scotty within 8 weeks of wedding date. Glamour Closet said that I'd spend around $400-$500 for the alterations. 3). Emailed Glamour Closet for an initial appointment (I wanted to know the price, how the process works, etc.). 4). No email response, but I receive four missed phone calls and voice mails; called them back and a young lady throws out time and dates. I chose Saturday, 9/16/2017 at 12:30pm - she gives me NO information of what is needed, how the process works, etc. and "has to get off the phone because they're too busy." 5). Since I did not receive any phone calls or emails from Wee Scotty, I decided to email them what I would like done to the dress (hem in front, bustle, and tuck in chest bodice) and that I would be showing up with six of my bridesmaids. 6). This is the worst part (honest review): Bridesmaids are waiting at Wee Scotty at 12:30pm at 9/16/17. I show up at 12:35pm. First response from Lee and Lynne - "You're late. You have 20 minutes now." Lee puts me in the seamstress's room by myself and Lynne walks in and starts pinning me. What is going on???? Lynne appeared stressed and I felt like it was my fault that she felt stressed because she was making these smirk responses, but after she saw my dress, she loosened up and became so friendly towards me. Once I had the dress on, only two girls at a time walked into the room to see my dress on me (the room was huge - there could be 10 girls in there at once; yes, one of my girlfriends is an architect and immediately noted that and the other attorney girlfriend was shocked how unorganized the process was). I can't walk out to show all six of my girlfriends (all of my girlfriends thought that was very mean and rude!). I wasn't even sure if I was going to get my dress altered there. I came back out, Lynne takes my dress away, Lee hands me a piece of paper to sign. It has notes scribbled on it by Lynne that I can barely read and an estimated price of $950 for 12 hours. We were SHOCKED. So, I said that we'll go have lunch next door at the Thai restaurant to think about it because that is very expensive. After lunch, we discussed that $950 is too high and my mother-in-law and mother demanded the dress back. Lee says that Lynne is now gone due to a personal event and she cannot give me MY DRESS back since she is the only person to take the pins out and it will cost me $45 dollars for the "consultation." WTF?!?!? First of all, no one at Wee Scotty explained the process (i.e. $45 consultation for the 30 minute frame of the appointment, $75/per hour, owner is the only person to take out the pins, etc.). Now, Lee is telling me that the estimated quote is $950?! We asked what would happen if it took more than 12 hours then, and her response, "then, you pay more. duh." OMG. I CAN'T EVEN. SO unprofessional! Who roils their eyes at a customer when speaking? Especially to an already stressed out bride and her family and friends?!? ARE YOU SERIOUS? So, I have to leave my expensive luxurious wedding dress at Wee Scotty from Saturday until Monday (when they reopen) because the owner is not there to take out the pins? They have my dress for hostage and my girlfriends wanted me to call the police. This is my property and I wanted it back. I told Lee that I want something in writing that they have my dress, and she says, "Normally, that would be your RECEIPT." Well, I am not going with your company for the alterations, so please give me MY dress back. So, she writes her signature on the back of their business card and tells me to come back Monday when the owner, Lynne is back. My entire family and friends are furious! More furious than me. This was the worst experience of my life dealing with any business. Today is Monday, and I have my dress finally. When Lynne altered my wedding dress, she left a bump on the zipper side of my dress that stuck out in all my wedding pictures. 100% regret coming here. I was referred to WeeScotty by LovelyBride SF and saw their good Yelp score that made me feel like they were the right choice for my dress alterations. I should've done a better job of filtering through reviews because I found many eerily similar experiences to mine and even worse reviews for Lynne's sewing class where she even belittles children. After paying $900 to Wee Scotty for incomplete and unsatisfactory alterations, I had to get it finished with a family friend who's a tailor back home in Florida where I was getting married. Our family friend not assured me that the way Wee Scotty did business with me was textbook of shady tailors, when she worked on my dress she saw sloppy work that I didn't even know the half of. I don't want any bride to go through what I did with Lynne, SHE MADE ME HATE PUTTING MY WEDDING DRESS ON. She was a bully that refused alterations I asked for, it took 4 fittings to adjust the simplest requests (hem, strap length), and at the end I was given a bill for $900 and a laundry list of alterations (only given upon adamant request) to justify her exorbitant price. Even though I expressed my concerns to her, I still did not receive and itemized invoice for all of the services and how much time each one took. There were 2 things on that list that I was billed for that were said to her on my way out as potential things I might want to talk about at our next fitting-things she never took action on- that she still refused to remove from my bill. Lynne's MO became very clear in hindsight: She unnecessarily prolongs the alteration process to several sessions, gives you a vague response about what work was done from the last session (then makes a joke to deflect the question), and never informs you about how your time is adding up and when you ask doesn't give you a breakdown of why just tell you a number. What I gather from this is that she doesn't actually do the work herself, there's no accurate log of timing so she can inflate prices (she charges $85/hr), and she prolongs the process to give you a sense that she's putting a lot more time into your dress than she is. From our tailor friend who had to finish my dress: They attempted to fix the waistline but ran it through the sewing machine 5 times over the same spot, instead of redoing her mistake on the uneven hem she instead put a dart on the liner of the dress, she used an old frayed cotton string as the loop for my bustle instead of using a premium material and hiding the loop within the existing design of the dress, the list goes on and on... Not only are they incompetent tailors technically, they prove to not have taste in making the right aesthetic choices. I happened upon this store when visiting Flagstaff and even though I have WAY too much fabric, I had to pop in and look around. What a cute store! I found some unique retro looking fabric that I had never seen anywhere else and couldn't decide if I should get it or not. The sales person was super sweet and helpful. She gave me the store info and said they would ship, if I changed my mind later and wanted to buy some of it. (Needless to say, I only got half a block away before turning around and running back to buy some. LOL I'm so glad I did! I looked up the fabric and it's extremely hard to find! Zero stars! This review review is about their closed store on Taraval in San Francisco, California. I phoned Wee Scotty in early 2020 about purchasing a portable Brother sewing and embroidery machine as a backup to my heavy metal one. They said the model I wanted was out of stock, but they would call me when it became available again. It is now late September 2021 and they never contacted me. I recently found out that the negligent shop moved to Arizona. Thankfully, I didn't buy the machine from them. If I had, I would have been left without local dealer support. It was also ripoff-priced above MSRP, so I would have been cheated in every way. I wanted to patronize a local small business, but Wee Scotty was an unreliable waste of time. I still want the machine but I will order it from either Brother or Amazon, whichever has the best price. read more

Of all the vendor meetings I had through the wedding process Lynne was the easiest by far. For the first time I was able to walk in and have someone do everything they needed to do without asking me any questions. I put the dress on and she knew exactly what needed to been done with it which made me feel so at ease. She asked me preferences on bustles and gave me a few options when I couldn't decide. Short and not so sweet review about this small sewing shop that also does some bridal gown alterations... I bought my wedding dress at glamour closet and they recommended two different places, this one and one on alameda. I should have gone to the other one. First off Lynne who does the actual alterations is great. She did a very good job on my dress and did what I asked. However, there were a couple things that went very wrong. I went about 5 times for alterations. Living almost an hour away this was not ideal but it was my wedding dress so of course I did come in. Everything was fine up until the last couple times I went in. First she nickel and dimed us for everything. We spent more on alterations here than on my actual dress... she charged us for pressing the dress after we already spent over 1k on the alterations and then made me come back a week later to get it. This was annoying but we went along with it. Then when I came back a week later I told them I wanted to come at 12 to get my dress and beat the traffic considering I had a lot to do because it was 2 days before my wedding. I get there at 12 and they said the dress wasn't ready. I said how long and they said another 30 min. I was annoyed considering I called in advance to get it at this time and they said sure but obviously didn't communicate at all. I waited an hour and was so annoyed. Btw they never had me try it on... so when I got home I tried it on and it was waaaayyyyy to big. I basically had to safety pin both sides on the dress, wear two bras and a butt pad on my wedding day. If I had tried it on in the store they would have seen how it didn't fit. After all that hassle and the multiple trip and a lot of money my dress did not look the way it should have. VERY DISAPPOINTED. read more

I am so very impressed with this company! I needed a zipper asap for my daughter's wedding dress that broke. She is in Germany so I needed to be able to mail it to her before her wedding! She was panicked and couldn't find the exact zipper she needed in Germany. I found the zipper at Wee Scotty and spoke to Frank who told me he would walk it to the post office himself that afternoon to make sure I got it fast. I received the zipper the very next day! I did not take my wedding dress here to be altered because of the vague prices. When I called for an estimate, I was told they charge by the hour @ $55/hour, and that "most dresses need 8-10 hours of work." Also, they told me that typically there will be 2-3 fittings. There is a consultation fee of $35. If you get your dress done here this will be applied to your alteration fee. I went elsewhere and my dress will be ready in 1 week for $115. If you want to pay $550 to get a hem on your dress and shorter straps, then this is the place for you! read more

YMMV - (Your Mileage May Vary) - Ok, I will preface this review with I am pleased with the result but very very unhappy with the route it took to get that result. I needed a robe put together for my halloween costume this year, and instead of trying to ask someone to hand sew it, I thought "maybe I'll ask a seamstress to do it for me" When looking through Yelp on my phone, I saw that I was pretty near Wee Scotty. I glanced over the reviews and gave them a quick call. I spoke with Colleen, who was very pleasant, and told her I'd be right over. Just after I arrived and started talking with Colleen about the robe and what was needed, another lady (who it tuns out was the seamstress) walked out and pushed past to leave the store. At the time I remember a nagging feeling that she didn't seem to recognize customers or even care that someone else was there, just that I was in her way to leave. After talking with Colleen and asking questions like "Do you think you could have it done by this coming Friday?" and "How much do you think it will cost?" She said that she would have to speak with the lady who just left since she's the one who does all of the sewing. So I should leave the materials, and send a followup email with my measurements. They would call me on Monday. Cool. That evening, they received the email with the measurements... On Monday...no call, no email response. I call and leave a voicemail message and send another email with my measurements, just to make sure. On Tuesday...I call and leave a voicemail message. No response. On Wednesday I'm beginning to worry. I call around noon and a lady answers the phone, not Colleen. I say who I am and that I'm calling to check on the status of the king's robe. I'm immediately addressed as if I'm bugging her and Her: (Irritated) "It says that you need it by Friday, why are you calling me?" Me: "Well, I was hoping to hear back from someone there in regards to knowing 1) if you got the email with the measurements 2) if you would be albe to complete it by this Friday 3) if there was enough fabric, or do you need me to drop off more? and 4) How much will it cost?" Her: (frustrated) "Yes, it will be done by Friday" (silence) Me: (becoming frustrated) "can you tell me how much it will cost?" Her: "75$ plus tax" and I reply, Me: " Never mind, that's too much, I'll just pick up the fabric and do it myself." Her: "Fine!" Me: "What time do you close?" Her: "5pm but I'm leaving early today" Me: "Ok, well I'll come by before you leave. What time are you leaving?" Her: "2pm" (Huh?!?!? but the hours say you close at 6!) Me: "Ok, then I'll come by tomorrow and pick up the fabric" Her: "Fine! Good bye" ...This conversation was around noon...when I get back from a meeting around 4 PM, I discover a missed call from Wee Scotty at 3:43pm" Message: (pleasant voice) "Hi Jonathon, this is Colleen from Wee Scotty, I'm calling to let you know that your robe is ready. We close at 6pm, but I will be here a little later today, so if the door is locked, just knock" WFT?!?!? Wicked Witch of the East/West? Good Cop/Bad Cop? At any rate, I picked up the robe and it looks great, but the pain and suffering of the overall experience was just too frustrating. Hopefully if you decide to do business with Wee Scotty, you'll get better service than I did. I'd recommend only dealing with Colleen if you can. I don't believe in supporting business with bad customer service soI will not do business with them again. So as I said at the beginning, your mileage may very. Stopped into Wee Scotty's on Sunday afternoon to pick up a last minute gift for a baby shower. The owner was super friendly and very nice. They had a great selection of fun, creative kids clothing that was orignal. I bought a cute, little long sleeve with a bike embroidered on it and am definitely going to order an embroidered onsie with an animal. I brought my wedding dress here because of several recommendations. First off I wanted to say that I went into this place being the most chill bride. She was 20 mins late and I knew I didn't need much work done. I work in the wedding industry and have seen how stressful the whole process can be. When I went in the woman doing and alterations told me the dress fit perfectly and I didn't need any alterations. So we decided to just add a bustle and take up my spaghetti straps .5 inch I felt very pressured into having a second fitting which I didn't feel I needed. Before I left the shop I asked the lady at the front to confirm my appt and she said it was not in the system yet but not to worry that she would add it in shortly. I had to take off time from work to go in and I showed up 20 mins early. The shop was closed and no lights were on. I waited by the front door for 45 mins and no one ever showed up. Before I left I called the shop and left a message. By the end of my work day no one had called me back. I called again and was told she was in the back and I did not knock on the door hard enough. One, they never told me the shop would be closed and I had to knock loudly. Second, wouldn't she have peeked out the front to see if her appointment was outside waiting? I won't go on much more and let's just finish off by saying I was yelled at about picking up my dress and I also paid for cleaning and it wasn't clean. I was charged double and I will definitely never send any of the brides I work with here. I hate to write a bad review but the service I received was not a positive experience. read more

My fiance was unfortunate enough to seek the alteration services of this business upon the recommendation of the bridal shop where her gown was originally purchased. Upon learning of her experience, I was horrified to hear about the manner in which she was treated. Lynne Gallagher' s assistants were short and rude during the entire consultation process. Anytime a question was asked, it was met with snide / condescending responses. It reached the point where there was an immediate concern over leaving the gown in their possession to complete the work. A decision was made to discontinue the consultation, and seek the services of a more reputable and upstanding business. The request to end the consultation was met with verbal hostility and further resistance. One would think that a business that presumably specializes in bridal alterations would operate with a level of class and sophistication. I couldn't believe what I was hearing from my fiance, and felt compelled to share the experience with others. After reviewing the website, and reading similar negative Yelp postings, I soon realized this was not an isolated incident. We will most certainly review the online reputations of local bridal alteration businesses first BEFORE considering their services. We also plan on sharing the unpleasant experience with the bridal shop that referred my fiance to "Wee Scotty" in the first place. I'd like to preface this review by saying that I had the most amazing wedding, and for the most part my dress fit beautifully and looks wonderful in pictures! This was no small feat given that my dress started 2 sizes too big and had thick layered fabrics to deal with in the alterations. With that said, I was generally satisfied with the alterations to my dress and was pleased with the advice give to me during the fittings and the decisions we made about what to bother altering and what to leave alone - all great. Around my chest area, however, there were some gaps that led me to feel a bit exposed throughout the night because the fabric didn't lay correctly - I'm going to get this fixed at another tailer when I turn the wedding gown into an evening gown. The big sadness I had with the whole experience was with the veil. In the first fitting we decided to do a floor length veil. In the second fitting it wasn't there and I was told I'd have it for the third (final) fitting. In the third fitting it wasn't here, and hadn't even been ordered! In that moment, we decided to switch to a short veil instead. I was promised it would be ordered and ready upon pickup the day before my wedding. Day before my wedding, my mom picked up my dress and veil. Day of my wedding, hour before the ceremony, I put on the veil and discover it's completely the wrong length and hasn't been finished with a white trim. Ack! As it was, the veil would have been unwearable with the dress because of the awkward length. In an act of desperation, my friend got a pair of scissors and hacked off 6 inches from the veil. I'm sorely disappointed to have paid $85 for a veil that wasn't made for me, wasn't the right length, and was missing the trim. read more

I tried repeatedly to bring in my dress and never got a real human being on the phone. I left several messages and no response. Finally someone left me a voicemail to call back and schedule a time. Got their VM again. It's too bad because Marina Morrison, a high end salon in SF, recommended them for my gown I bought at Kleinfeld's. Even if I could get an appointment at this point I wouldn't go because I wouldn't feel secure leaving my dress somewhere where I can never get ahold of anyone. Edited on October 30: I am very sorry to hear about the owner's daughter being ill and I am sure that accounted for some issues with some people. However, my issues were with the staff answering the phone (or not answering) -- staff should be able to step up if the owner is not able to be on site for whatever reason. I do not remove reviews, because I give them careful consideration and do not write them in fits of irritation, because I know that reputation is key for small businesses. Bottom line, staff should have been able to keep a business running; that's why you have a continuity plan. read more

So my "family" came up to visit me from San Diego. My sweethearts, John and Keoni and their son Kaleo. Seriously, these two have been together since 1985 and just surrounded by this happy love cloud that you get sucked into. Anyway, we were all feeling very domestic walking down Union Street with my lovely roommate, Fiorella pushing Kaleo in his stroller when we popped in here. Awwww...................it's so CUTE!!!!!!! With the exception of Kaleo I think we all uttered this phrase at least once in the first 2 minutes of walking in here. The items they have are adorable (extra props for the little bowling shirt with bowling pin buttons and the cowboy pajamas) and of high quality so they're perfect if you're looking for a "special occasion and save in a box" outfit or a "well you'll share this with siblings/cousins" outfit because it IS so special. They have all sorts of little girly outfits and adorable "Dress Up" clothes. And they offer sewing classes too. All in all very unique, high in class and quality and yes, cute. read more

Much of the high-ticket, but magnificently tailored clothes are produced in-house...a number of mini "couture" pieces have been featured in the San Francisco fashion runway season and are actually designed by girls at the minis design program. Part boutique, part fashion design and skill school, with sewing machine retail sales thrown in, it has an eclectic mix of clothing and accessories intended for youth ranging from baby to teenager. Yes, there are fun things for women as well, but the main focus are hip kids. It's like Blue Bear's School of Music youth program...only high fashion. I was referred to Lynne by Glamour Closet, where I purchased my wedding gown. Since I am petite and busty, I knew I would need alterations regardless of how the gown I had purchased fit me. I wanted to go with the seamstress that the store recommended and I'm SO glad I did! I had a total of three dress fittings with Lynne and I brought my mom and sister with me each time to have an extra set of eyes on me (my mom sews, so she knows her stuff), but she could tell right away that I was in good hands. I went to Joanne's Fabrics to attempt to purchase a sewing machine. "Hi -- can someone help me with the sewing machines?" "No, the lady should be here already. Maybe 30 minutes. Come back then." Buh bye national chain, hello Wee Scotty! Cute little shop on Union Street. Lynn, the owner, is super friendly and nice and helpful, I couldn't help but buy the machine the second she said, "Let me show you how it can make a buttonhole". I just came back from my first sewing class, and I luckily had Lynn all to myself. Fab tricks of the trade, I can't wait to go back and buy up some fun gadgets. read more

This review is for the free Sunday Sewing classes that reflects poor customer service and staff not honoring their own words. First off, it's not really free because when you get there there is this jar with the sign to put a $5 suggested donation, which the teacher ensure to let us know. The teacher, Elizabeth, explained what needs to be done, but didn't really help my two kids (age 3 and 6) with the sewing. I had to help them because they are very young and new to sewing. We were only allowed to use one sewing machine even though there were more machines available and there was only one other girl there. We understood that the project would stretch into the following week, but we were shooed away when two o'clock came even though the store would continue to open and we were almost done with the part that we were supposed to finish that day. We left after putting the suggested donation and later I emailed Elizabeth to let her know that we won't be able to come the following week and asked if the kids could complete their project the week after. She responded, Yes. So two weeks later we came back only to be told that there was no more space since they were fully booked. Elizabeth said if we wanted to be guaranteed a spot we have to reserve online. So I showed her my email reserving for that day. She still apologized saying that it was really full and so they couldn't take us in. So much for guarantee! At this point she should have tried her best to make amend of the situation, but she kept rejecting all the suggestions I made. Since we came halfway through the session, I asked if perhaps someone might have almost finished by then and we can take the spot, Elizabeth just said that she wasn't sure without even making the effort to check. So I asked if she could just show us what needs to be done and we can complete the project at home. She replied that she wasn't sure if the kids can do it at home (as if they could do it there without me helping them). At the end as we left, she just said (cheerfully), "See you soon, hopefully." She probably figured we might not return and didn't feel a tad sorry about it. I had thought of signing up for a sewing class with them, but after what happened today and reading all the horrible reviews, I was glad I didn't sign up yet. Throughout the following week the free Sunday sewing class showed a fully booked status; now it is not even there. How are my two daughters supposed to finish their project now? There has been no effort of reaching out to make amend whatsoever either. So very disappointed. I had wished that this could be a regular fun activity for the kids, but i don't see it happening now and neither would I recommend this place to anyone anymore. read more

I had a great experience with Lynne and the team at Wee Scotty. I bought my dress at Glamour Closet and it started out a few sizes too big. My wedding was a few months out but Lynne assured me the turn around wouldn't be a problem. She clearly communicated the process of the fittings and timeline to get the dress done. In the end, I was thrilled with the results. My dress is comprised of English net and lace. The top, which needed the most work, fit me perfectly. I couldn't have been happier with the final results. My mom is across the country and at the end of every appointment, Lynne helped me snap a few photos to send to her. For the final appointment, after failing to make a video call work, Lynne was kind enough to help me take a video to send to my mom. (Even though my appointment was running a little late and another bride had arrived) It really meant a lot to us that Lynne was so helpful and willing to help me keep my mom involved. read more

After receiving a rec to go to Wee Scotty for my wedding dress fitting from Haute Bride, Yelp reviews and various bride friends or their friend-of-friends, I decided to give it a shot. I scheduled an appointment two months before the big day and went in for three fittings. The appointments are super quick so make sure you know what you want when you go in, or any questions you have. I was a little worried about the hasty meeting, but everything turned out fabulous! My dress fits perfect and they altered the bustle to my liking. And, all of this came under my original quoted price, so I was very happy with the result. So much, that I even recommended the place to my mother-in-law for her dress alterations. That's saying a lot! It is pricey, but you get what you pay for. On a side note, I've always wanted to sew and learned they have adult lessons one or two nights a week. Hoping I get the chance to check those out! Oh, and I also drove each time, and had no problem at all finding parking. They also did courtesy appt. reminder calls which was very helpful! read more
