I use Yelp for literally everything but for years have been too lazy to leave a single review. This is the first time I've really felt compelled to review a business. Like some of the other reviewers, my husband and I were very unsure about whether to take lessons for our first dance. I didn't really see the point--I thought that after the craziness of the wedding, I would enjoy taking a quiet moment to do the "chaperoned middle school dance" sway with my husband. I wasn't particularly concerned about audience enjoyment. Regardless, "DECIDE WHETHER TO TAKE DANCE LESSONS" was on my to-do list for months and suddenly there were only two days left before we had to fly out of town for our wedding. Although we figured that our indecisiveness had probably made the decision for us, I found Wedding Dance Coach on Yelp and decided to reach out to see if they had any last-minute availability in the next two days. Luckily for us, they did! We decided to go but still weren't convinced that we wanted to do a choreographed dance--I thought there was a real possibility that we'd just end up ditching whatever we learned at the lesson for the standard sway. I couldn't have been more wrong! Our instructor was Troy, and he was phenomenal. The song we'd chosen was not the easiest to dance to & probably wasn't one he'd heard before, but he listened to it ahead of time and--with zero guidance from us--came up with a vision for the song that he was able to teach us in just an hour. We really appreciated that he didn't make us feel bad for leaving dance lessons to the last minute, or try and tell us that one dance lesson wasn't going to be enough for him to teach us anything substantial. Instead, in the span of an hour, he taught us the waltz, the rumba box step, a number of twirls, a two-person spin, a lift-spin, a dip, and some other small moves. What most surprised both of us was that the dance lesson was SO MUCH FUN! My husband and I both came to the lesson pretty stressed out (we were extremely tight on time as we had to go straight from the dance lesson to DIA for the flight to our wedding!), but we both had an absolute blast. At the end, Troy had us take some videos of him doing the various steps so that we could practice on our own in the days leading up to the wedding. We watched the videos and practiced more over the next few days, and when it came time to do the real thing our guests were blown away. Some of the best photos from our wedding are of the first dance, primarily because you can see the shocked faces of our guests in the background! We are not great dancers by any means, but Troy (and presumably the other instructors) can teach you enough--even in just an hour--to trick your guests into thinking that you have some dancing competence. And the dance lesson has been useful even beyond our first dance--we busted out the rumba box step while dancing to a live band during our honeymoon. TLDR: even if you are skeptical about the utility of dance lessons and short on time prior to your wedding like we were, take dance lessons and take them here! If we'd had more time, we definitely would have taken more than one lesson. Our first dance is truly one of our favorite memories from our wedding. read more

When my (now) husband and I started planning our wedding day there was one part of the day that we were especially excited for, our first dance as husband and wife. In our minds we thought it would be a peaceful way to connect during an otherwise very busy day. We spent months trying to pick our song and when we finally found it, it was perfect. It conveyed exactly what we wanted it to and it touched us both very deeply, the same however could not be said for our dancing. We tried dancing to our song the first couple times and we ended up looking like two awkward middle school kids. We knew we needed help! I actually just stumbled upon Elizabeth but I'm so incredibly happy I did. I booked three sessions without even meeting her, which I know might sound strange but she was located close to our house and the price was right. Upon meeting her, I knew we made the right choice! She was so welcoming and kind and fun, she instantly put us at ease. She spent quite a bit of time talking to us about what we had envisioned for our first dance. We knew we wanted something elegant and classy but also romantic. For us the most important thing was that it did not look too choreographed and that we could really lose ourselves in the moment. That's exactly what we got with Elizabeth. She choreographed something so beautiful and romantic that left an impression on all our guests but was easy enough for us that we just completely enjoyed the moment and didn't worry about what our next steps were. It was the perfect balance for us. When I look back and think of that moment when we had our first dance, it still is my favorite part of the day and I really credit Elizabeth's teaching to making that moment just perfect for us. We had 5 dance lessons with Maren over the summer before our October wedding, and we are so happy to have done it! My husband was not sure about dance lessons, but I definitely did not want to do the awkward penguin waddle to a slow song that I have seen at many weddings. I was hesitant because we picked out a rather unconventional song from an avant-garde metal band. However as soon as Maren listened to it the first time, she immediately started putting some steps to it, and we were thrilled that we were able to use the song we wanted. I loved that our dance sequence incorporated moves from waltz, tango, and swing dancing, as well as turns and dips that vowed our guests! Maren was very flexible to change something when I was sometimes just not "feeling" a certain move or if we had issues with a transition, and was always communicating to ensure that we were comfortable with the movements. I am also absolutely in awe that we were able to go from learning a basic waltz step on the first day, to having a full dance sequence by the end of the last session. Having Maren record a video of the sequence on my phone was very helpful for us to practice later. I am also very thankful that Maren gave us a lot of tips to ensure a successful dance on the day of in case any sort of issues came up - like how to adapt in case the space we'd dance in was smaller than expected, what to do if our shoes were slippery, or how to modify certain parts of the dance if my dress didn't allow the movement. She also gave lots of little tips on how to add some "oomph" to the dance like how to hold my hand during a spin to make it look more elegant, where to look, etc. Really put my mind at ease and the big day went great! Every part of this experience was great - from the instructor, to the dance, to the bonding time as a couple. I would highly suggest this to anyone! read more

We started as two people with ZERO dance experience and ended with "That was the best first dance we've ever seen! You guys killed it! That was amazing!". That came from our wedding DJ who has seen countless number of dances. As a watcher of "So you think you can dance" and "Dancing with the Stars", I've always dreamed of having a beautiful story telling first dance with my future wife. Never did I think that was possible without months of professional dance training. With My Wedding Dance Coach, it was done in 7 lessons! Maren, our dance instructor, was absolutely great. We had an ambitious desire to combine two songs into one dance, a slow romantic one followed by an upbeat fun one. Maren choreographed our dance beautifully as we went taking into account our feedback and input. She was as excited about our dance as we were! The beautiful thing about the dance was that we "messed up" a couple of different times, but no one had any idea. Maren did a great job of prepping us on the adrenaline and nerves that can and will pop up in the moment and we were able to cruise right through them to a beautiful finish. One thing to note when scheduling your dance classes is to make sure to allow room for your own personal practice time! On average we were able to fit in one hour of practice between each hour of lessons, so it's amazing to see what we were able to accomplish in 14 hrs! Also, I highly recommend you record your lessons so you can reference them later. We loved it so much that we'll definitely be taking some more lessons in the future just for fun! read more

We loved working with Elizabeth as our wedding dance coach and could not recommend her more highly! We originally reached out to Elizabeth about doing a fun group dance lesson at our wedding. Although she had never done anything like this before, Elizabeth dove right into it. Elizabeth choreographed and taught three dances - Indian, Country Western, and Hip-Hop. So many of our friends and family raved about how fun the dance lessons were, particularly folks who generally don't enjoy dancing. It was a great, low-stress way to do a group activity at the reception. Alongside all of this, we decided we wanted to do a first dance. One of us had never done any ballroom dancing, so we knew we needed lessons. With a month to go, Elizabeth was able to squeeze us in for three lessons--two for just us and one for us with our mothers for a mother/son dance. Even in this limited amount of time, Elizabeth choreographed a dance to Elvis's "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" - we were so pleased with the results! Elizabeth has such a wonderful, calming energy and is a methodical teacher, and really focused on our movements to improve our waltz. Elizabeth also was great with our mothers, and particularly with one of our moms who had never really danced before. Without Elizabeth's help we would not have been able to do a first dance or a mother/son dance, and we're so grateful that she helped us overcome our fear of trying something new the night of our wedding. With Maren Waldman as our guide, my daughter and her new husband, my wife and I, and our son and other daughter did just that - we all had great fun (and some great moves!) - thanks to Maren. Maren is an outstanding dance instructor in that she is patient, flexible and accommodating of a wide spectrum of skill levels and musical preferences. She worked with my daughter and fiancé on a very fast salsa dance number, my daughter and I on a jumpy techno-swing dance, my wife and I on a smooth vocal jazz song, and taught our son and other daughter some great jump-step moves. I cannot praise enough Maren's ability to give us confidence in our dancing so that we could simultaneously keep the dance flowing (due to her teaching the structure, prompts and moves of the dance) and yet let go and bask in the sheer bliss and happiness of the moment. Maren's teaching (and enthusiasm!) allowed us to truly enjoy and have fun with our dancing. I cannot adequately describe the joy I felt as a father and husband as I danced with my daughter, then with my wife, thanks to the lessons we took from Maren. When we chose our first dance song we decided we wanted to completely surprise our guests with a choreographed dance. The song was pretty complex and changed pace quite a bit so we wanted a unique choreography that would move from ballroom dancing to faster dancing to disco-y vibes. We were partnered with Melissa for our dance and we LOVED working with her. Our first day was a bit frustrating because we both didn't know what the heck we were doing but Melissa was so consistent and patient with us she inspired us to go home and practice dilligently. Watching our progression over the weeks was astounding. She was able to teach us 3 entirely different styles of dance to incorporate into the song! We actually looked forward to our appointments with her. She had such a fun energy and was always so patient with us. Her teaching style made it such that learning from her was not intimidating. She listened to what we wanted and never tried to force her ideas on us...though honestly the ideas she provided to us were great and a lot of them really landed with us. On our wedding day we were so confident and we NAILED the dance. Our entire wedding erupted in cheering and clapping at the end. I'm literally tearing up right now remembering it. My husband and I are NOT big dancers - neither of us has any formal dance experience, and we knew that we needed to prep for the big day, but dance lessons kept slipping to the bottom of our to-do list. A couple of weeks before the wedding, a friend recommended that we give Elizabeth a call. We were assuming that we were out of luck, given the short notice, but she was able to fit us into a group class and an individual lesson the very next week. For the group class, we met with two instructors and 3 other couples, and they helped us to get a handle on some basic steps. Going into our individual lesson a few days before the wedding, my husband and I were figuring that Elizabeth would teach us some simple moves, just to get us through our first dance without tripping over each other. We were totally wrong about that - in the hourlong lesson, she managed to choreograph an entire dance for us! It was great, because it was simple enough that we could learn it during the lesson (and practice it later on our own!), but it also looked amazing. After practicing on our own for the next few days, we completely surprised everyone at the wedding with our first dance! We've received so many compliments on how nicely our dance turned out, and our friends were impressed that it only took one lesson. It was amazing! read more

These guys are AWESOME, and that's an understatement. I am such a reviews based person, so here is my testimony: My Dad wanted to do one of those Father/Daughter Mash-Up dances, where you start off on a slow dance and then break out into a choreographed dance to different songs, and I was petrified...neither of us are coordinated, to say the least. Like from 1-10 on being coordinated, I would put us both at a 2, the level of a blind turtle who's recovering from a broken leg...I mean, we could do the YMCA, and that's about the extent of it. Our instructor, Dennis, was nothing short of phenomenal. He is so fun, patient, kind and made this a great experience for both of us. We did 5 sessions and I was even able to use 1/2 of my last session with my now husband, to work on our first dance...where it became very evident that I should've also been doing dance lessons with him the whole time. All in all, we flipping crushed our Father-Daughter dance on the night of the wedding, and the crowd went wild. I assume this is the closest I will ever get to feeling famous, and it felt great, because we rocked it. I have nothing but great things to say about my experience with Dennis as my Wedding Dance Coach. I took lessons with both my fiancé for our wedding dance and with my father for the father-daughter dance. We all began this adventure having little to no dance experience, and I think we were all a little nervous about how it would all turn out, but it was one of the best decisions I made surrounding the wedding. Our wedding dance was literally my favorite part of the day, and that means a lot coming from someone who never danced before and who isn't one to love the spotlight! It was fun, it was within our skill range, and many guests commented on how fun it was to watch. I felt like a princess when my fiancé and I ended our dance with a move that I had seen on the internet but never thought I would be able to pull off! One of the best parts of learning dances with both my fiancé and my father were the memories that were created leading up to the big day. We had so much fun and so many laughs spending some quality time and practicing the dances, so for those memories alone it was all worth it. Although there is plenty of stress and planning that goes into a wedding, I was relatively relaxed about everything other than the first dance. Having had no dance experience or really any rhythm at all, I dreaded getting up in front of people and embarrassing myself. My wife knew this, and was smart/kind enough to book us five lessons with the Wedding Dance Coach. Melissa got us into a groove quickly and was an excellent teacher. She didn't push anything outside of our comfort zone, but also taught us some dance moves that I never thought that I was capable of. My wife and I definitely won't be winning any dance competitions in the future (my fault, not hers), but our first dance went great. Our guests were shocked at the work that went into the routine, and we definitely would not have been able to put on a show like that without Melissa's coaching and encouragement. The first dance went from being the most terrifying part of the wedding, to arguably my favorite part of the whole weekend. We totally surprised and wowed our guests with our first dance as husband and wife thanks to Elizabeth. This was our first dancing experience and we had no idea what we were doing or what to expect. Cannot recommend the Wedding Dance Coach enough! I had done the basic choreography of our first dance as I wanted to do a fun mash up of some of our favourite songs, but wanted to add an extra 'wow factor' to it and came across the Wedding Dance Coach. They helped us add in some amazing lifts, spins and poses as well as tidied up our initial slow dance portion and omg did it look incredible after!! My fiance was really apprehensive about doing this especially virtually as we are based in London but we had SO much fun in the lessons and he could see what a difference it made to our dance. PJ was our main teacher and she was so lovely and patient and such a good teacher over zoom! She was able to see if we were doing things wrong or struggling with things easily and came up with alternative suggestions. We then had a final lesson with Elizabeth who polished everything up; little things from hand positions to facial expressions. Honestly couldn't recommend this company more, whether you want in person lessons or virtual, it really will make your first dance so unique and amazing, whether you're a beginner or advanced dancer! My better half and I had discussed taking dance lessons for our wedding. He is such a goofball but let's be honest, he did not know how to dance. I had danced when I was younger but never formal ballroom dancing. From the moment I inquired the Wedding Dance Coach the entire experience up through and even after our big day was simply amazing. I purchased several dance lessons for my daughter and her fiancée a couple of months prior to there wedding. My girlfriend and I decided to double up with them for the lessons, and I have to say that it was a brilliant decision. We had a tremendous amount of fun meeting up each week for the lessons, I got to see my new son-in-law interact in a whole different way with my daughter and I learned what a great sport he is. The lessons that we took together created a new bond among all of us, and being able to step up and actually dance at the wedding was special for all of us. Dennis was an incredible instructor! We absolutely LOVED working with Maren. She is extremely professional, elegant, and kind. She is open and inclusive and made my wife and I feel right at home. We LOVED LOVED LOVED using Dennis from the Wedding Dance Coach. With all the crazy planning and hours upon hours of wedding crafts and items to put together, it was amazing to have time with the two of us to just be together. Also Dennis was AWESOME! He listened to what we wanted and our ideas and we collaborated to find the perfect moves, silly, and sweet little items I wanted to incorporate into our dance. The ENTIRE dance was personalized and planned to our strengths and preferences. We are by no means dancers, but by the end of our five lessons we were looking pretty good! Maren at My Wedding Dance Coach in Boulder was absolutely perfect for us. Maren read the style of dance we were looking for to a tee! My husband was super picky about not doing anything cheesy or over-choreographed and he was hesitant to start because of that. Maren read him perfectly and he was immediately at ease. We wanted to learn some good turns and be able to use them later for general purposes and we definitely will be able to! And most of all, we wanted a fun activity for date night and we got it! It was so much fun working with you. Our first dance itself was so much fun! The band played our song so well - they were jamming! Our photographer included in her blog post that it was the coolest first dance she'd ever seen between the band, the song choice ("Feel Like Making Love" by Bad Company), and our practiced, but not over-choreographed dance. My new hubby and I are the worlds worst dancers... yet we have so much fun dancing that we do it anyway! BUT, for our wedding we did NOT just want to get up there for our first dance and sway back and forth 8th grade style (you all know what i'm talking about)! We decided as a wedding present to each other we would get dance lessons because not only did we get 5 built in dates from the lessons we practiced a lot at home and it was so fun! We both have really fun outgoing personalities so we asked Elizabeth from my wedding dance coach if she could choreograph us something FUN and she nailed it. Like I said we aren't good dancers but she was sooo good with us and patient and if you could see were we started to where we ended up some might even call her a saint ;).
