I realized this May would have been ten years that my Mother entered Karlton, and it shows how well they have nurtured her through Alzheimers and this last journey of her life. I, as her daughter have been supported by the owners, and staff each and everyday. I cant tell you how many times they have held my hand through my mothers Alzheimers disease. They are truly angels. I would like to mention my Uncle was here with her for 7 years prior. I would like to comment on his care as well. Simply amazing. It was comforting for me to have them together. Karlton has a very special quality about it that I certainly had not found before placing her with them. They are extremely capable, and competent to manage Alzheimers/Dementia patients, and in the most loving way. The facility is calm, immaculate,and so well run. I had a good experience with another agency in my city but the caregiver they provided couldn't move to their OC location. I did a quick search and found Comfort Keepers. It's always nerve-wracking to choose an agency you aren't familiar with, knowing you will be stepping back and letting someone else support your loved one. Having a stranger in your house is something to get used to and not always an easy transition. From the first meet and greet with Karen and Chelsea I walked away feeling that they had a genuine concern for my father, and also my mother, who also would be in the home with him. My father has 7 day a week support and it's made such a difference in his health, wellbeing, and demeanor. He considers his "helpers" as family and hasn't had an odd fit yet. The staff is communicative when there's a sub or a change, and we're able to communicate scheduling updates easily via the phone or their website portal.

Tien was incredibly responsive in making sure medications and supplies arrived when we needed them. Bea, the social worker, was truly a lifeline--patient, compassionate, and always willing to go the extra mile, even advocating for us with the county when we hit roadblocks. They also paid attention to details and personalized services, including arranging for a priest to come and offer Catholic blessings. Update (April 2026)…read more Compassionate Care Hospice's response illustrates their unprofessionalism and willingness to provide dishonest information. Below are OFFICIAL findings directly from the FINAL report by the California Department of Public Health (Complaint Number 2641478), which indicated that Compassionate Care was being investigated based on multiple serious complaints within a short period of time -- yet it continues to misrepresent the findings by the Department of Public Health. If they spent as much time combating negative reviews by their customers and fabricating disinformation as they do on patient care, maybe they wouldn't have so many one-star reviews to begin with. "The initial plan of care, updated plans of care, initial assessment, comprehensive assessment, updated comprehensive assessments and clinical notes - This STANDARD is NOT MET as evidenced by: Based on record review and staff interviews, the hospice failed to ensure completion of clinical record to reflect the family member's concern regarding a change in the patient's condition. This failure created the potential for not having the patient's current condition to provide necessary care and services for the patients. " "Signed copies of the notice of patient rights in accordance with Section 418.52 and election statement in accordance with Section 418.24 - This STANDARD is NOT MET as evidenced by: Based on staff interview and record review, the hospice failed to ensure the written addendum showing diagnoses and non-covered items was completed with the actual date completed/provided to the patient/family member... This failure had the potential for not having an accurate information on the patient's clinical record." Read the above for yourself and see if you believe the official report found no deficiencies as asserted by Compassionate Care. There is a clear lack of ethics and humanity toward their patients. A simple phone call or email to the grieving family with an apology would have been a good start, and yet they are incapable of admitting their shortcomings and chose to fabricate results of the findings. I urge anyone considering Compassionate Care to contact the California Department of Public Health regarding the complaints and think hard about whether you would want this organization to care for your family member during their last moments.
