The bathrooms were clean, and each campsite had a nice cover over the table. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. However, the hiking trails were really just walking trails and weren't that exciting. We were also woken up every morning at 5am because the duck hunters would unload near our site and walk down to the lake. If you did manage to fall asleep you were soon woken up to gunshots starting around 6:30 for hunting. The first night, right at dusk, we were attacked by some sort of nasty flying bug.. I think maybe industrial terminates because they came from the ground. It was terrorizing. But didn't happen the second night. And the Javelina's were really cool to see, but an absolute nightmare for our guardian dog. They do get close to the campsite, even if people are out, and our dog declared them as public enemy number one. So we were always on edge and looking for them before he caught wind of them. If you are looking for a chill spot to just hang and camp, I recommend. But if you are looking for more activities in a park, this honestly wasn't the place. The kids activities that were scheduled for the Saturday were cancelled, which was disappointing.

You will find mainly locals, parasailers, and fishermen here, which makes it more appealing. It is mostly unencumbered by any touristy overflow from across the bridge. This place is a nice spot to stay at and enjoy some nice camping, place is clean and staff are very…read morehelpful. But just remember that you need to be prepared with all the necessities... There is four types of stays: the first two are a cottage or a cabin the only difference is that a cottage has a full mini restroom and shower and kitchen with fridge and microwave and a cabin is just a cabin. Make sure you take your own bedding and blankets etc. if you stay in a cabin there is restrooms throughout the camp site that are equipped with shower. The restrooms and showers ain't bad at all they are well kept and clean often, if you go go with your partner and while one showers the other can wait just outside and vice versa. The other two stays are for RV's and tent sites. In the middle of the whole camp ground there is a shaded gazebo with tables and pits for you to BBQ. Be advised that every cabin and cottage have there own BBQ grill and picnic table also, they even have a fire pit which you can buy logs at the office but your better of taking your own fire logs to burn. There are only two cottages in the whole camp site and the rest are cabins. There is a pizza place called Hunt Bros. located inside the office along with a small store for the basic necessities. There is also a pool so you can soak up some sun. All in all it is a nice place to go relax...

There are lots of green, lush plants around and a few birds. Keep an eye out for the famous crane birds. You'll also probably see some gulls, terns and other birds- so keep your sandwich in check, or they'll eat it. This boardwalk was once rated the #1 boardwalk in Texas for birding by Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine! It lacks some of its former glory after Hurricane Harvey, but they did put some of it back together so you can go out on the boardwalk. There were LOTS of mosquitoes when I went. Lots. The skies darkened with mosquitoes when I arrived. I didn't spend too long at this park, because I was losing so much blood to mosquito bites. The park is located across 361 from the Post Office. There's plenty of parking, I can't imagine that this park gets full very often. There are no restrooms or any other facilities. No picnic tables, playground or anything else. I wouldn't take a dog walking here, it might fall in the water or eat an endangered bird.

There was a lake/marsh like area teeming with birds including flocks of Black-necked Stilts, a Lesser Yellowlegs, a Willet, a pair of Blue-winged Teals, a Marbled Godwit, a Mottled Duck, a Tricolored Heron, and various egrets. Nice spot. Update: Came back the next day in the evening as opposed to the morning and saw lots of Laughing Gulls, seven or eight Willets, a Tricolored Heron, various egrets, a Marbled Godwit, a couple of female Pintails, lots of Black-necked Stilts, a Red Knot, and lots of Boat-tailed Grackles. This only backs up the fact that this place is great. And if you're having trouble navigating to this place, it's across from the post office.

The boardwalk has been extended across the pond. From there, you can take the path to the Community Park.
