First of all, the correct name for this park is Packery Channel, as it was named for the meat…read morepacking facilities that used to be in the area. We spent about 90 minutes at this park, primarily on the boardwalk. We also drove to the area along the water, where people were fishing. The road is pretty rutted and uneven. Our purpose in visiting the park was to look for migrating bird species. While I ended up photographing mostly hummingbirds, there were also orchard and Baltimore orioles, scissor-tailed flycatchers, and other migrating species to be found. There are a few shady refuges for those visiting the park, mainly along the boardwalk. One has a good seating area. This is an unheralded gem of a place to visit... and it's adjacent to another cool spot, the Texas Sealife Center, a volunteer-run rescue facility.
