Two of the salons in Shepherdstown were polite but were booked and couldn't take me as a walk in, there was another barbershop and the hipster guy working there was appointment only but said, "you could try Uncle Joe's in Martinsburg, but, you know, reputation." So I did. Anastasia took me in and did an excellent job making me look good for family pics. If you are in a pinch and want a good haircut and conversation: Uncle Joe's. My haircut with Chrissy was amazing. She was warm, friendly, and easy to talk to, and the conversation made the whole experience even better. She really set the tone for a great visit. The front desk staff (I'm sorry I forgot her name) was also very welcoming. She took the time to introduce the services and even gave me a tour, which I appreciated. The only part of my visit that didn't quite match the rest was my pedicure. The technician--Arlene or Marlene, I believe--seemed to rush through the session. She had a headphone in, which I don't mind if it helps her focus, but the overall experience felt a bit quiet and less engaging. I would've appreciated more check-ins, like asking if everything felt okay or if I had any specific concerns (for example, areas like calluses that I wanted extra attention on). That said, everyone was very nice, and I still left feeling pampered. With just a little more attention to detail during the pedicure, this would've been a perfect experience.

However, every time I would grow out my hair, and them ask them to keep the fro, but clean it up and make me look good, they would mess it up. It got to the point where I started thinking maybe I was asking for something that didn't exist... Anyway, I decided to give Tailor Made Cuts a try. I walked in with my fro (I'd been avoiding getting it cut cause of the previous disappointments), and showed them a picture and said this is what I'm looking for. The Barber said no problem, and shortly later he was done. I looked in the mirror, and was like wow, this is the best cut I've had in 10 years, no lie. if you want your average close cut, go anywhere, but if you want something more then that, see Tailor Made Cuts.
