Wanted to like it here, however Holly wasn't very personable matter of fact the interaction was confrontational from the beginning of me coming in the shop. I booked for a wash blow dry and deep condition *sigh* not only did I feel rushed she put me under the dryer with no cap, complained that I still had product in my head withOUT rerinsing me , (mind you SHE WASHED MY HAIR SO SHE SHOULD HAVR SENT ME BACK TO THE BOWL)and also blamed my hair matting because her words "my hair wasn't combed out before washing my hair" not sure she really knew what she was doing or she really didn't care none the less her dismissive snarky responses when engaging in conversation to get a better understanding of (my hair matting , product STILL IN MY HAIR after the wash , and no cap for my hair to be deep conditioned , literally just sat under the dryer next to a lady who was lucky enough to have a cap ) glad I just got my service and left. I believe I've been coming here for the past year, visiting my stylist Ashley. The salon itself is a small hair shop. It's clean and well organized. They have enough hair dryers for everyone and the staff all seem to be a family. They're always laughing and lending each other a hand. My favorite part is that they make sure every client is comfortable, whether in the chair or waiting to be seen. For instance, when you come in they ask for your coat to take downstairs, after a while a stylist or the receptionist comes around to offer you water/tea/juice/coffee as well as snacks. I haven't been to another salon that's done that in a minute. As for Ashley she's amazing! I've been seeing here for almost 5 years and my hair has literally grown so much in her hands and we have the best relationship. She's given me tips and tricks on taking care of my hair (which I'm terrible at doing anyway because I don't listen and extra lol), she's put me on to some of her hair oil, aka hair crack, which makes my natural curls P O P darling. She's a ray of sunshine and has even inspired me to pursue a more plant-based lifestyle (or at least dance with the idea). Ashley is very knowledgeable about hair care/hair health and will have you coming out the shop looking GRAND. I'll follow here wherever [around The two-state lol] and I have! I've been a customer of this salon on and off for about 3 years. Since I've started I've been seeing Willie as my stylist. Over the last 3 years things have been smooth, service has been decent and consistent. Customer service wasn't a strong point but the process of setting appointments, confirming and having specified services done have been pretty consistent. As of last month a few strange things started to happen. I had an appointment with Willie on 2/7 and went through my normal process of scheduling. When I arrived I was surprised to hear Willie hadn't shown up for any of his appointments for the day. The system is electronic and I've been called in the past if my appointment needed to be rescheduled. This time there was no call and I was completely taken by surprise. I decided due to an event I had to attend I would allow Holly to do my hair, Willie's assistant. She did a good job with just a regular cleanse and style. However at the end of the appointment I was informed that I had to go get cash and couldn't use my card as I usually did which was an inconvenience. All of this irritated me but this wasn't normal so I gave Willie a pass. I made another appointment for today 3/7 with Willie. 2 days prior I received a strange text from Willie's personal phone asking me to pay for services in advance through CashApp. He said he needed to put money on his Lyft account. This was extremely odd so I ignored the text. The next day I called the salon as I wanted to find out if there was fraudulent activity occurring and report that I had received this strange text but Willie hadn't shown up again for his appointments that day. I called again on the day of my appointment to find out if Willie was in, again no one called me to tell me that he was a No Show. I will never be a customer of this salon again given these events. I had a hair appointment on Feb 7, 2019 at 8pm with Willie and he never showed up. I was very disappointed because their electronic system sent me an email confirming along with several text messages confirming the appointment. I traveled by 2 trains and walked 3 blocks in the rain to get to this appointment and he was not in building. I was then ushered to another girl who said she would do my hair. When I entered the establishment another stylist, a lady, asked me what i was getting done and I said "a relaxer, cut and curl". I arrived at 7:45pm (they request you come 10-15 minutes early). The stylist I was pawned off on said she would be right with me. She finally came to start my hair at 8:37pm, almost an hour later. Then she told me that she would wash it and I told her "no I am getting a perm/relaxer". She said "We don't have any relaxer, we ran out". She said she would blow dry it real straight. (NOT THE SAME THING). I was there for an hour and no one said anything about not having any perm. So not the correct hair stylist, a long wait and no perm. I left. I was completely disrespected by Willie and it was very upsetting to me. I had made concerted efforts to get there and was treated like a piece of garbage. No one has called to apologize, no discounts were offered. Nothing. They just stared at me as I became very upset with the treatment I received. Very unprofessional and disrespectful. read more

This morning was my last straw. I went to the salon on saturday to get my hair cut and dyed. I showed the salon the picture I wanted and the exact color I wanted. They did a perfect job bleaching my hair and bring it to a white however they were completely dirty. My turtle neck was bleached because the stylist doing my hair put no protection to stop the bleach from going down my neck. As well, the cut and color? Horrific. If they cannot do the cut and color a client wants they should say so. But instead there was no consultation what so ever. I wanted a Ashy violet. I came our with a steel blue color. I wanted a nice short cut with natural curls. I got a mini afro. I will never, EVER, go back to this place. I left cause I was just done after everything and I cried over how messed up my hair looked. Definitely a good reminder for me of why I never go to Harlem to get these kinds of stylized cuts. Now after spending 199$ I have to go on line and find a color that will atleast make this cut worth having. Do. Not. Go. Got there twenty minutes before my appointment. Instead of having me wait, they took me immediately. Chris, who is primarily in charge of the front end, washed my hair while answering the phones and helping inform employees of necessary info. He didn't skimp on the service for one second. He even asked me if I have a dry scalp and, when I responded yes, he washed it again with specialized shampoo. It's been a while since I've been to a salon where they were willing to put in more elbow work without being asked to, tending to my better hair needs instead of getting me in and getting me out. Their shampoo/rinsing stations aren't the run of the mill sinks where you're liable to need your clothes dried as well as your hair. They're designed in a way to conserve both your threads and your patience. Chris kept an eye on me after he'd already checked to see if my hair was fully dry, making sure that he didn't "dry me out" while I finished up. He also offered something to drink. While waiting those last few minutes, Willie, whom I had an appointment with and had just entered from a downstairs location, tilted my dryer up and greeted me with a smile. It didn't' take long for Willie to start styling my hair after leaving the dryer. He questioned me on what brought me to the salon, my hairstyle preferences, my daily and weekly regime (gym/work/nighttime) and hair treatment applications I use at home. He immediately knew my style, educated me on the do's and don'ts to take better care of my dry hair and scalp, and didn't once make me feel as if he was trying to sell the products his store offers when showing me what he was using. He gave other ideas as well as agreed with items I already own so I could make up my own mind. He was fast-working, knowledgeable, very easy to talk to (I'm sure he's heard it all), and considerate. I have a bit more to say but I'm sure any reader will get the gist of my visit. Came here around 5pm on a Friday. i had a 5:30 appt and waiting no more than 10 minutes before Willie scooped me up. The location is not far from the train and the establishment itself is very nice and clean. No children and no food. I loved the way my hair came out and the fact that my curl pattern was not ruined from the heat. This was the first time I had my hair professional done and straightened since I went natural 3 years ago. While I was pleased with the outcome, I did find the price a bit steep. Not sure if prices are typically that high or if I paid more for having the owner do my hair (which I did not specifically request). For the price and having to trek from BK, not sure I would return but it is a place I would recommend for naturalista's in the area to try. read more

I recently got my hair cut at this salon. The service was good but the cut that I received is not worth the $70 spent. My hair is cut in a choppy way, it's cut up in different lengths and is not manageable . It looks as though the stylist didn't know what she was doing and just cut . I will not be returning . I now have to go to a different salon and see if they can fix it , I may have to cut off the little bit of hair that she left and allow it to grow back . These pictures are from almost a week later. The shop has a nice environment, no catty drama very classy hair salon vibe. BUT that didn't make up for me ( currently ) being 1 hour into my "reserved appointment" to be sitting without my hair being done and for another customer to be in the chair of, who I thought would be my stylist for the allotted time I reserved : "1 hour 30 minutes" I especially hate it when they apply hair product almost like insurance to keep me sitting and waiting, if it were not for some sort of conditioning oil?? I came into this salon on July 5th, I needed my hair done as my main beautician was unavailable. My appointment was with Holly and I totally regret even coming to this place. She needs to learn how to be respectful and have manners. All the attitude and sarcasm isn't necessary especially from a woman who seems to be older than me. My next complaint is how she handles being sanitary from client to client. I literally watched her use the same gloves on her hands while she handled 4 different clients. After my appointment today, he will be my permanent hairstylist. I have extremely dry scalp---like desert dry; it's serious. I usually leave the salon with flakes, but not today baby. I have a shortcut and requested a halo and style. Whatever Willie did, I'm getting compliments left and right. My hair is shinning, looks healthy and full. Willie is a professional and it's clear, HAIR CARE is priority for him. The salon uses high-end products such as Design Essentials and the ambience is classy. I think I just found my new hair salon! I walked in randomly on Saturday at noon thinking it might be too busy and that I'd just schedule an appointment, but Willie was able to get me in right away! I have very long hair, so sometimes I can be in hair salons for hours and hours....but from the moment I stepped in to the moment I stepped out was 2 hours including the wash, deep conditioner, etc. I was very very pleased. The customer service there was excellent. The staff was very polite and attentive. I recognized a few of the staff members from the salon that was previously there (Harlem Mane) and know they've been doing hair for quite some time. I just checked out their website and it looks great as well. I really appreciate this salon and will definitely go back - if not just for the awesome work on my hair (I haven't left a hair salon that satisfied with the outcome of my hair in a very long time...) but for the wine + cupcakes + cookies + brownies that were offered. Very professional, very nice ... ...Oh and the music? Ok I could go on and on. They had Beyonce playing in the background. This is a great salon and definitely recommend it to others. I just told my coworker and she's going to go soon too. I would like to keep this as my own little hidden gem but I also want it to stay open so recommend it to everyone. I wanted to love this place but I was disappointed. I scheduled an appointment with Willie at 8am. He never showed up. His assistant washed and did a crazy mold to my hair. I then sat and waited and was never told he wasn't showing up. Finally at 10:45. I told her I was leaving she said she would cut my hair. I don't think it's fair to pay those prices when I booked with a master stylist and to have a junior stylist cut my hair. Also I am not familiar with her work. I was not informed of this emergency until I said I was leaving. I traveled from Westchester and also had other obligations. No discount was offered, no make up appointment was discussed. I tried a new place in the neighborhood. Randomly walked in, and met with one of the hairdressers, Bianca who was amazing. I got a relaxer and deep condition. The deep conditioning steamer is everything. When I was done, Bianca styled my hair as if I were going somewhere fabulous. It was the first time in a long time that I felt really styled and really pretty when I left. I almost had to make plans on that rainy afternoon just to show off my new look! The ambience of the salon and the music was wonderful. The staff in general was very professional and attentive. The wait staff are all courteous and respectful and give amazing washes. Every appointment I've made has been followed up with a reminder call and I'm always seen within the first 5-10 minutes of getting there. Willie is thoroughly concerned with the health of my hair, giving deep steam treatments with every wash. An expert cutter and presser, my hair is as straight after coming in as if I would have gotten a perm and his cuts are FIERCE. If the service wasn't enough, the shop takes care to make you feel like a valued customer and sends cards and coupons in the mail for holidays. Willie is great! I absolutely LOVE my hair. Willie not only brought the shine and softness back to my hair, but the highlights he added yesterday are amazing. I love my new look. I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door and Chris asked to take my coat so I don't have drag it around or clutter the salon. There are purse hooks at each station, so you don't have to worry about holding your bag or putting it on the floor. I was also offered something to drink a few times. Yesterday, I heard a woman raving about the lemonade they serve. I'll have to try it. Add music and friendly, professional stylists to that, and I always have a pleasant experience. During my first appointment with Willie, he asked questions about me and how I'd like my hair styled. He did exactly what I asked for. I was in the salon two weeks ago for my birthday. When he heard it was my big day, Willie went out of his way to make me feel extra special and served me some amazing cupcakes and glass of sparkling rose'. Then, he gave me a killer style and I was ready for the night. But, nothing tops yesterday's appointment when he highlighted my hair. It's one of those situations when you love your hair so much, that you stop and look at yourself every chance you get. My birthday had just passed and I wanted a new look and I wanted my damaged hair to be styled in a short style. I was looking forward to having a new look. Travis Kidd did not disappoint! Last month was it for me. I understand that Covid-19 has caused many things to change. However, as someone who had been going to Willie for at least 2.5 years, I was growing more and more disgusted with the way he carried out his business. At one point in 2019, he was taking appointments, and then would not show up for them-not just one occasion, but on several occasions. I understand things happen in life, so I tried to be patient. I felt he did a good job with short hair, even though he took a long time. I went in March again for an appointment I had a 3pm on a Friday. I walked through the door, with my mask, and all necessary PPE, because I am a teacher. He looks at me and says, "You need to come back at 4pm." A little stunned, I said, "My appointment is at 3pm. You want me to come back at 4pm?" He had another person in the chair, with a lot of hair to be completed. I said okay. I sent him a text, saying I cannot wait an hour, you can cancel the appointment. He never apologized or contacted me to let me know why this had happened. Not to mention a couple of months before, when I came in ON TIME, because of the Covid situation, he had asked me to come back in 30 minutes, because the shop could not have people sitting in it. No problem-as a teacher I totally understand. However, what I did not understand was why other clients were not being asked to leave and allowed to sit, who belonged to him and who did not. That was rude to say the least. For someone who charges a great deal for short hair, his professionalism does not match his prices. I will never go back to that shop again. I got an appointment for the very next day at the Honey salon, and it went smoothly. I am currently looking for a new permanent stylist. read more

Disaster. I recently moved back to the city and was hoping to find a place that not only cared about hair health, but also had stylists that listened to their clients needs in terms of their home hair care routine and hairstyles that worked for their lifestyle. I expressed this to my stylist, the owner, as he began to evaluate my hair before working on it. He said he understood exactly where I was coming from, but apparently he did not. I went in this afternoon as a first time client (first salon visit in NYC in years) and was excited to get my hair done as I was preparing for two big work events that are occurring at the end of this week and a friend's life event celebration this weekend. I left completely disappointed. I explained the cut that I was looking for, including showing the owner pictures/visuals of similar hairstyles for reference. I also reinforced that I needed a cut that was both low maintenance, not too short, and would suit a professional work/office environment. In the end I felt as though I was the victim of a very bad hair cut. In addition to this, he literally cut all the hair off the back of my head when I clearly stated that I did not want my hair cut to be short. I received a bad hair cut about a year ago from another salon and it took me the entire year to grow it out and today the stylist at We Love Hair set me back another year. When I expressed my concern I received the quick talk of you can totally work this style and it's easy for you to maintain. Why do hair stylists always tell you this when they do what they want to your hair and not what you ask them. When I met up with friends later tonight, none of them commented on how nice my hair looked. Everyone just felt bad for me. This haircut, especially the back, does not (and will not when I have to style it myself at home) look professional. I do agree with the other reviewers in that the staff was very pleasant and the space is nicely decorated and well maintained, hence the extra star. However, given my experience today in terms of my hair and what I walked away with, I would not recommend this salon to others. My hair looks awful. The salon is on a clean quiet street and is lovely inside, very clean and spacious. I met Willie ( the stylist) immediately, he listened to my concerns and gave me some pointers about how to take care of my hair. He is extremely patient and kind-not at all pretentious. I am a Black woman who wears her hair natural and typically in a fro. I rarely get my hair done, but have been searching the market for a reliable, affordable place. I think I have found that in We Love Hair, or at least my first trip there is making me feel that way. I saw Carla, who is one of the stylists that works with natural hair (and she herself wears her hair natural). The Good: -I was able to make the appointment within a couple of days of my call. -I went on a Saturday at noon and was out by 2pm---that is nearly unheard of in a black hair care establishment! -Carla was knowledgeable, patient, friendly but not-to-chatty, and was not scissor happy; I went in for a trim, and that's exactly all she took off! -The space is clean (including the bathroom), well lit, and had a good playlist piping through the space -I felt it was a great price: $65 total for wash/ steam condition/ trim/ 2strand twist styling The Bad or Questionable: -at one point Carla left the salon to grab something from someone outside. That didn't bother me so much as that she seemed to be chatting with the person for like 5 LONG whole minutes, which felt a bit unprofessional to me. Luckily I was still in and out in terms of timing, otherwise I would have been highly irritated. Overall I look forward to returning and will definitely be requesting Carla's services. read more

Dont let the nice ambiance fool you, service is less than perfect unfortunately for top dollar it's unfortunate. For what they are charging customer service should be 100%, they cancel appointments, haircuts are hit or miss and their rewards program is a joke. I have been roaming from salon to salon for years searching for someone who is genuinely concerned with the health of my hair and doesn't charge me a small fortune. I called We Love Hair to make an appt. I was tired of traveling to different people to handle my locs and wanted to find a local place that was good. I have found that at We Love Hair. I arrived early and was seen right away. I am a grown man with below shoulder length locs who is very tender headed. Chris washed and conditioned my hair and retwisted it pain free. All while we discussed apple products and Miami. I was offered tea and water. This is a good place. The energy was perfect. I don't allow anybody to just touch my hair but i would like to thank Chris for the good job he did and i will be returning on a regular basis. BTW my wife will be coming in friday 1/16 lol. I do not relax my hair, and i am pretty sure I don't condition it properly, but after leaving Willie's chair my hair is properly conditioned, trimmed, and styled to perfection! I'll give Willie 5 stars for color. He's been doing hair for over 20 years And he gets it right every time!! The color is super affordable too! I went in for a full weave install. The stylist drenched my hair in oil which got all over my expensive extensions. The entire installation was painful. I was braided too tightly. The stylist did re-do the install willingly, to her credit, but the whole process was too painful, too long and resulted in her cutting my wefts too much. Lastly, she sewed through my wefts which caused further pain when she forced the needle through. Everyone knows sewing through wefts is a no-no as it damages them and that's exactly what happened. I asked her why she was doing it and got an unclear response. Then, she continued to do it without asking whether I wanted her to stop. I am losing several strands a day due to my wefts being damaged because she sewed through them. Also, my hair cut was very uneven. I spent over $400 on my Indique hair extensions, and $320 on the install, so I am not very pleased. This was my first visit to the salon. The ambiance of the salon was lovely so it pains me to write this review but I am honestly unhappy with my experience given the amount of money spent. Needless to say, I will not be returning. My stylist was Halimatu. Update: My hair was ripped from the root due to the braids being too tight. I lost a lot of hair. I paid (well) for a wash, deep condition and style. When the style did not meet my specifications (I repeatedly stated that it needed to be conservative and professional- it is neither-I look like a stegosaurus) the stylist told me that we could do what I wanted next time.... nope I don't think so. no tip. no return business. and a bad review - sorry but if you dont do as your customer asks - you dont get to keep that customer. Well ladies let me just say it's sad how people will rob you for your money. I was swindled I paid $175.00 for 3 tracks in my hair that began coming out in 2 days I had to go back and get them tighten, the perm did not do anything for my hair. it was just and awful experience i felt so violated. I mention I was looking for a hair stylest I love my hair and I get it done religously. Oh well their lost, ladies don't be fooled my hair got no love at this place. I have lived in this neighborhood for some time and wanted to have near home salon option for events and last minute appointments. I have a scalp condition and use prescription shampoo and my hair is natural. I straighten my hair every 2 weeks depending on the season and my curls always bounce back. I tried this salon after reading some reviews that seemed ok. My experience: I called the salon to see if I could make a last minute appointment that day. I asked the "receptionist" for a recommendation someone good. She asked if I had been there before I said no. She asked what time I wanted to come in I gave a time range she said ok see you then. And I was like wait, who do I have an appointment with she said me. I thought seemed a little strange/shady... I got there, there was one person doing hair and a few people sitting around. One of the people sitting around was the person I had the appointment with. She she will be with me in a moment and started to clean around the salon for 10min. That seemed strange since I had an appointment and she was not doing anything when I got there. She eventually washed my hair we talked about my scalp. She blew my hair out and then started to grease my scalp saying that it would treat my scalp. She used jane carter's nourish and shine. I told her it was too heavy for my scalp and that my prescription shampoo is enough, but she proceed. She then put more of the jane carter all over my hair. My hair is curly but fine and I was super greasy. AND she said she wanted to lay down my edges and put this gel on my edges and started to make baby hair...OMG!!! I asked her to stop. I had to redo my hair when I got home and my curls are not bouncing back. I have washed my hair a few times now and my is just heat damaged and I am soooo disappointed. Do not risk your hair or waste your money here!!! The stylist that did my hair is Hollie. She said she's worked at the salon for 10yrs or so and that I was in good hands. YIKES!!
