    Xtra Hand

Please read this if you're considering hiring Xtra Hand!…read more I honestly didn't want to leave such a bad review, but Xtra Hand has really put me in a tough situation. This is the first negative review I've ever left someone. I hired Xtra Hand to perform some work on my property. There was a lot of work that they cut corners on, did wrong, or simply didn't do at all, but for this review, I am going to focus specifically on the electrical work they got wrong as an example. Part of this job included running electrical wire to my kitchen for a hot water heater. Josh Williams (the business owner) informed me that the job was done, but that my hot water heater was broken. Josh requested I pay the remaining invoice for the job, and since I trusted him that the issue was not with the electrical wire they installed, I naively paid him before inspecting the work in person. I figured I would fix or replace the hot water heater myself. I spent the better part of two days troubleshooting the hot water heater, trying to figure out what was wrong with it, and it turns out the hot water heater wasn't broken at all! Xtra Hand had incorrectly wired it. I really shouldn't have had to be the one to troubleshoot for the professionals, but I realized they had installed a 20 amp fuse (which had blown) between the 40 amp hot water heater and the breaker. Not only that, but they installed the wrong size wire. The instructions, which they had left on the counter, clearly indicate that 8 AWG wire would be required for the hot water heater since it could pull up to 40 amps. For some reason, they installed 10 AWG and 12 AWG wires (thinner than 8 AWG wire). which could be a fire hazard, so I'm glad I noticed this. I reached out to Josh Williams, and brought the issue to his attention. He said his helper Angel Ramirez did the electrical, and that he would look into it, but after that, he stopped responding to all of my texts and calls. I gave Josh two options that he could choose from: 1) Correct the issue 2) Refund me for the cost of labor and materials It's been over a month, and despite his promises of, "Yeah I know it seems like we're trying to pull your teeth, but it's honestly a lot of time and work that's in it but we're going to do it right and you're going to get an incredible job guarantee it." and "I'm more than certain you'll be very pleased with the results." Josh has decided to continue ghosting me. I don't understand his decision to ignore me, because a bad reputation is going to cost him a lot more in business than the thousands of dollars he owes me. At this point, I don't trust Xtra Hand to correct the issue, so I'd rather them just pay me back for the cost of the electrical work. I'd even consider improving my review if they do. My advice to anyone looking for a contractor would be to look elsewhere. It shouldn't be too hard to find someone with more integrity who is also less expensive. TLDR: Xtra Hand promised they would do a great job, but they improperly installed the electrical to my kitchen (fire hazard). Instead of correcting the issue or refunding me, Josh Williams has decided to ignore my texts and calls over the past month, so now I'm down thousands of dollars with wiring that needs to be redone.
