This is certainly the nicest Dick's I've ever been in. I like be the wide variety of options and…read morehow they have nicely organized sections by brand. The Yeti section in particular is very impressive! They've usually got employees by the entrances and exits so greet you and ask if there's anything they can assist with which is a nice touch. I feel like they offer a little retry good value with some decent discounts that run throughout various times of the year. If you're not a name brand person their DSG brand has some pretty good options for a low cost as well!

Mostly sports gear and equipment. Upstairs was shoes, clothes and various accessories. We did browse some clothes. For sure on the spendy side but they had some cute stuff. When we got to the shoe dept it was a bit busy but they have a system where you scan the barcode of the display shoe you want to try on and you put what sizes you want to try as well as what color you are wearing so they can find you. It was a decent system, only waited 2-3 minutes after requesting my size. The checkout process was a bit slow as they only had one cashier by the mall entrance door (hopefully they had other checkout areas). The cashier was nice & kept things moving. Overall I felt like the store was organized and I liked colorful displays of each brand. Worth checking out even if you aren't into sports.

If you have fond memories of Midwest Mountaineering, that longtime Cedar-Riverside staple, this new…read moreoutdoor activity gear shop is definitely good news for you! That shop's manager has now opened Lake State Mountaineering with similar wares and similar values. So we're talking high quality canoeing, climbing, camping, and hiking gear from a combination of large, small, and local vendors. They have a website you can order from, but if you want to browse in person and get knowledgeable advice from this passionate crew, you can pop into the shop. They have some pretty high-end merchandise, but I'm seeing some tempting sale offers and they have a rental program that might help you get kitted out for an adventure. This storefront location might be tricky to find at first. Enter through the building's Washington Avenue door, next to the barber shop, then follow the signs through the door there and up the stairs, where you'll spot them. I promise there's a nice store up there! You're on your own for parking but it's easy enough to find metered street parking. If you want to properly gear up for this kind of activity and want the best equipment, sold to you be a locally-owned store who will give you honest recommendations that come from deep experience, this is where to go.

They also carry high quality gear like marmot and Patagonia and those are not excluded from sale which is a rarity. Definitely a hidden gem of a shop and where I will be coming back to get gear for a good value. It's nice to have a local option that caters to the outdoor market besides REI.

It may be a little farther from me than Erik's (which is also pretty good, and has a better merch selection), but these are my new "go to" bike guys. They also have an interesting selection of higher end and ultra-lite tents on display in their warehouse and some land windsurfing gear, all of which I know nothing about, but seemed cool. The location is sort of lonely and on my 4 visits I never saw any other customers, so I hope they get enough business to stick around!

I spoke with them today and confirmed they have my snowboard and it's currently being held as evidence. ----------- Gear Doctors has my snowboard after 4 months and I'm not sure I'll ever get it back. I dropped it off in May for a tune after purchasing a Star Tribune Steals coupon. They told me 1 week turnaround time. I called back a couple weeks later and was told it wasn't done because someone had gone on vacation or something. They said it would be done the next week. They never called, and a few weeks later (it's a snowboard, I wasn't real concerned about getting it back in the middle of summer) I went to their shop to find it CLOSED saying they had moved. I've left 3 phone messages, 3 emails, 3 messages via their website NO RESPONSE. At this point I'm sure my snowboard is long gone.
