We hiked through the entire North Prong Trail which totaled about 7 miles and it was truly gorgeous. There were some difficult moments at points, but nothing I couldn't do. The weather was nice, there was plenty of parking to head into the trails, and I had a great time. The Canyons are absolutely stunning and mesmerizing know this is hidden away in Texas. Came back thru the end of Sept and was assigned the same site. ( site 26 but all sites in the area probably have the same problem). They had done nothing to fix the issue. This time our A/C would not work. Others around us were running but no surge protector. We didn't want to plug in without ours. The guys finally came and tried several things but could not fix. And they didn't have any other sites so at 7 pm we had to find another place for the night. Got our $ back but had to find new place after very long drive day.

During extended dry periods the lake all but disapears but it's great when the lake is up a few feet.

Showers are quarter machine operated for water conservation purposes. $0.50 for 3 minutes. I splurged an extra quarter for 4.5min and due to tough and dirty Army training, I ended up enjoying a high pressure extra 2 minutes of pure watery delight. So if you can combat shower, you'll be just fine with 2 quarters. :) Wrote the top portion upon arrival at night. Taking a star due to how darn dirty the place was. Trash EVERYWHERE even though the site had 2 large barrel trash cans :( Stupid, dirty people. Pics attached. Wear shoes and be careful using the trails down to the water due to so much glass.

It turns out that they have five full RV hookups. You can camp for two nights free, and for $10 per night afterward. The RV sites are just gravel, but you look into the park, which has large trees, a playground, and a walking track. It's a quiet park, although you can hear some highway noise. I heard coyotes one night. The park also abuts a small llama farm. The best part is that you can easily walk into downtown Crosbyton, which has an unusual and attractive county courthouse, which was the site of a pretty ghastly double murder in 1923. There is also the Crosby County Pioneer Museum which is a far above average local museum, which has regular hours. If you want to learn more about this unique area, this is one of the places to go. It's great walking around on the back streets. The park is quiet, and quite safe. If you want a quiet few days away, a mere 36 miles from Lubbock, this is a good place to go. Alert: There are no toilets or showers.

There's also plenty of pull-offs for picture opportunities. For ones that like hiking, there's plenty of that there. I'm not big into hiking, and I also didn't pack to do so. Lol. There is cave you see from the road, and if you want you can do a short hike to it. I wasn't on planning really hiking anywhere but this was short enough. Easy to get up, going down you have to be a lil careful. Good place for pictures too. Camping ground are available too. Anyways, if you're in town visiting or never have been there, I definitely recommend it!

But you can only drive 16 miles on a paved road. Then you turn around and drive back. Palo Duro Canyon State Park officially opened on July 4,1934 and it cost $8.00 a person to enter. You can camp in tents-RVs with electricity and water. Also rental cabins that look pretty cool overlooking the canyon. Picnic tables and various locations over 40 miles of hiking and biking trails. They have stables with guided horseback rides. Parks Museum store has exhibits about history, geology, and wildlife. They have a natural observatory for birdwatching. And a trading post with restaurant and a park store. During the summer hours an open air outdoor drama theater nestled at the foothills of the cliff. This is a beautiful state park and we're glad we seen it.

The playground isn't exactly modern, and my three year old refused to call it a "real playground". She thinks I'm ancient now because I told her that's the kind of playground equipment I had growing up (all metal, burn your skin off when it's been in the sun). The roaming camp cats and rooster were a huge hit with the kids. But the pool was the real winner. It was large, clean, and IN DOORS - much needed in this Texas sun! Everyone we crossed paths with was super friendly and we had no issues with people respecting quiet times at night. Honestly I think we may have been the loudest ones with a three year old and an 11 month old who whisper in screams. Even though the camp sites were not the prettiest, the staff took pride in the KOA as a whole, and it was nice to see them going around watering the tent sites and all the flowers and potted plants. All in all, not a bad spot if you're in Lubbock for a night or two.
