It is unacceptable that an employee was terminated on the spot for communicating with coworkers in a manner that has always been deemed acceptable at the store. I have witnessed numerous employees making inappropriate comments and behaving poorly in front of customers. Why would Wawa, a company that prides itself on being friendly and encouraging smiles, let go of someone who has demonstrated nine years of loyalty and dependability? They have dismissed a parent, friend, partner, and homeowner. While some employees have behaved inappropriately and spoken explicitly, there have also been instances where managers have shown half-naked pictures to staff. What about the employee who yelled and cursed at a manager right in front of other associates and a store full of customers? Or the three managers who discussed the situation regarding the now-terminated employee, suggesting that he deserved what happened to him? Additionally, there was an incident where a manager discussed the terminated employee's pay in front of customers and other employees by the front counter near the cigarettes. In a proper establishment, that manager would have received a reprimand or at least a conversation about their conduct. This situation is wrong; discussing someone's salary in front of people not involved is against privacy rules. You cannot speak about others' privacy. This employee deserved to be heard, mediated, or given another chance. He was well-liked by customers and was a valuable team member. I've also spoken to other customers who attempted to communicate their dissatisfaction to corporate but received no response regarding their concerns, even though they were promised a reply within 48 hours. Why is this happening? Is the company discriminating against employees or conspiring against them? Was this decision made out of jealousy? How could Wawa treat someone so kind and good in this manner? Is there favoritism within this company? Where is the freedom in this? Our country stands for freedom of speech, respect, kindness, understanding, and acceptance of all beliefs, religions, ethnicities, genders, and orientations. The most important thing is the inherent worth of every person. This employee was worth more than what he received. Does Wawa not have levels of disciplinary action? If so, then every employee across the numerous stores should be terminated for the inappropriate language that has been used, both behind the scenes and in front of customers, which could be deemed offensive by anyone. Inappropriate language spoken in front of customers is just as offensive as making a simple joke. Associates use this type of language daily and often apologize immediately after realizing they've upset a coworker, who is now back in.. long story short If you were to review all of the surveillance footage, I'm confident you would find grounds to fire more than half of your staff for using vulgar or curse words. While Wawa claims to care about its customers, it should also care about its employees, especially those who have been with the company faithfully. General managers often fail to address employees who deserve termination, mediation training, or even a write-up. I've witnessed instances of vulgar language and inappropriate behavior. In one case, an employee was terminated on the spot without any consideration for prior disciplinary steps that should have been taken. Yet, they allow inappropriate conversations both inside and outside the workplace. Yelling between employees has been allowed to continue, while someone can be fired immediately for making a joke. As an employee or customer, I do not feel safe with the current gm. I do not trust him nor the higher ups at this point. The wawa way, if you value people, you would consider an employee of 9+ years communicating with another employee the same way that they do on a normal basis and worst.
