When I heard there was a Crown Fried Chicken opening in town, I was shocked. For those blissfully…read moreunaware, Crown is a chain that typically locates itself in more urban environments such as Brooklyn, Northern NJ Cities, etc. Seeing one opening in the suburbs of Brick was both unexpected and incredibly welcome (though my diet may think otherwise). I'm a huge fan of the Asbury Park location, which might be the best fried chicken I've ever had, so I rushed over here 1 day after they opened to give it a shot. A fairly diverse menu is available - as expected of most CFC locations, all of which was priced reasonably; a 3 piece fried chicken meal with fries can be had for $8.99 at the time of this writing, which frankly makes me wonder why anyone would go to a fast food joint. The quality of the food was great; my fried chicken was nice and moist inside, with their outstanding breading on top. I've also had a chicken sandwich here that was pretty tasty, and again - a bargain for lunch. Ambiance / seating is as expected for a small place like this; a few tables for pop-ins, but mostly designed as a to-go place (think average Chinese takeout locations). There's a few growing pains - my gyro platter had fairly soggy rice and not enough sear on the meat (but tasted fine otherwise), and the chicken could have used maybe a tiny bit more fryer time to really crisp up the breading. Neither were really show-stoppers, and I chalked it up to having literally just opened. There was noticable improvement from day 2 to day 6, so I'm pretty confident these little bumps will get ironed out. Oh. One more thing. GET THE BANANA PUDDING. That stuff is addictive! I'll be back for sure.

This is a follow up review and it's probably my fourth visit possibly fifth. Tonight was a miss. I…read moreordered on the app ahead of time and scheduled for a later time than when I ordered which would be 6:30 PM, I immediately got a text that it would be 6:38 PM. OK not a problem. 6:38 passed and we waited 10minutes more, they said they needed to cook the food. They were slammed so this alone is not the reason for the follow up. We understand that. Most of the drinks were nearly empty with two of them being completely empty, the drink station hadn't been wiped down in a while, and there were no lids for the cups to take out that I had to go and ask. It seemed like they may not have enough supplies because when the one worker gave me the two lids for our drink so we could leave the other worker said that's just for us so I was a little surprised at that because how were we supposed to leave with the drinks? I don't blame the workers. They were all working very hard, but it's poorly managed then or understaffed or both. I think I might've seen a manager a woman with short hair that walked through behind the counter once. But the manager should be pitching in to help if they are understaffed. They left out a lot of things on our order. I should've checked before I left, didn't realize that that was necessary here, but it is. I did notice several people before me going back for missing pita bread. I did not realize I was also missing. That alone not a big deal because we ordered pita chips so we had that. Both salads contained grilled chicken and both were extremely oversalted compared to the last few times and the pita chips were so over salted that we had to dust them off just to eat them. Both salads were missing the pickled red onions, and it was on the order slip. My salad had no dressing and it was supposed to have Greek dressing again on the slip. We did eat the majority of the bowls, not all of it like usual because of the salt. It was so heavy. It was biting the inside of your mouth so we had to dust everything off and I just stopped eating it after a while. That much salt is a turn off even when you love salty food this was just biting and sharp, extreme salt and we could physically brush it off the pita chips in heavy amounts. Unfortunately, the chicken had absorbed a lot of it so it was just an extremely salty bite of chicken. The only reason why I'm still going back is, this is one out of 4-5 visits and if it indeed goes back to being good, that's it. But another visit or two like this and we won't be back.
