Decided to visit Bluefin Bay on a whim for an R&R winter weekend away from the twin cities. As soon as I booked I noticed the spa on the website - what's more R&R than that? The massage was fantastic - highly recommend the signature. Trish was amazing! The saunas were a nice touch for this Scandinavian. Karen is wonderful! I had the superior facial, that also comes with a scalp, neck and arm massage, it was so very relaxing! I can not wait to come back! I arrived a couple hours early, I did not get the best explanation on what I can do or ect. But, I figured it out. The Spa area is mostly in the lower level. The dressing room is past the check in area to your left, lovely area to change, shower, sauna and get ready. Just down the hall on your left is a relaxation room, where later I visited and read the book I brought. Then I went back to the front desk grabbed a pass key went upstairs to the pool, hot tub, sauna, bathroom and gym area. I had it all to myself! What an dream! The view from the hot tub was so amazing, the sky and lake were so relaxing, children were ice skating, birds were playing in a bush. I must have had the largest smile on my face! After that I went to go read and before I knew it I was getting my facial, so heavenly! After I used the shower area, went up stairs to grab a late lunch unfortunately they were on break, so I grabbed a glass of ice water and was on my way. I can't wait to go back! read more

This is a review of the Brunch at Waves. On Sat . and Sunday during peak season they serve an amazing brunch for $17 per person. Calm uncluttered setting. Delicious food prepared with care such as lemon ricotta blintz and Applewood bacon. We also enjoyed the made to order waffles . The executive Chef Judith is warm and welcoming . It would be good if they would take reservations and/ or have more tables. read more

Went up to Tofte for the honeymoon and made appointments for two 60-minute hot stone massages at Waves of Superior Spa. I have had many professional massages and have visited some very elegant spa facilities. Waves of Superior was a compact version of a large spa facility, but had nearly all the amenities one could expect from a top-notch spa: It had: - Adequate changing facilities with complimentary grooming items (combs, facial products, access to hair dryer) - Plush robes, plastic sandals (not the best but they worked) - Two showers with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, complimentary razors - Dry Sauna - Restrooms - Relaxation room with comfortable chairs and dried fruit/nuts/water/tea inside, and a relaxation area outside with a rock waterfall. I actually fell asleep outside before my massage, it was so relaxing. The only thing it didn't have was a hot tub, but I don't think it's necessary in this case. The environment was calming and beautiful. Our massage therapist, Mary Kate, was professional and well-trained. She asked us our massage needs before we were on the table--what pressure we liked, scented or unscented oil, etc. She is obviously an experienced, expert massage therapist. She asked for feedback during the massage and requested we communicate if the pressure was too hard, too soft, etc. I ended up getting the most relaxing and luxurious massage I've had in my life. I'd definitely go back again. My spouse felt the same way about her experience with Mary Kate. Price was a little higher than I've experienced at other spas, but this is a resort location. And RE: the reviewer who spoke about the pressure being too hard, it was our spoken rule with our massage therapist to speak up whenever pressure is uncomfortable or inadequate. It is up to the client to do this, because everybody likes different pressure and they have no way of knowing unless you say something. Wouldn't really blame the therapists. read more

I've had many massages at Waves of Superior and they have all been excellent. The therapists are attentive to my questions and concerns. The venue is relaxing, quiet and beautiful. Guests also get to use the hot tub, and pool that overlook Lake Superior. In addition you can access the exercise and sauna rooms. I've been to many spas around the US and you can't beat Waves of Superior for all around ambience and service. I highly recommend it! read more

The facilities were definitely comfortable, with a relaxation room while you wait for your service. They provided tea, water, dried fruits and nuts, and we could sit outside on a patio overlooking a little stream. We were under the impression that we were getting deep-tissues massages, but they had booked them as relaxation. They said they would just change them to deep-tissue, no problem. We met our therapists (we got a couple's massage), and talked about what sort of treatment we wanted. My therapist said, "II won't be giving you a deep tissue massage, but I massage firmly." Unfortunately, we were both in PAIN the whole time, and both of us almost walked out. It was deep-tissue pain that is actually quite relaxing to both of us; it was tearing-at-your-skin and crushing your bones kind of painful. Not at all relaxing, and not at all getting out all of our knots that we've accumulated from busy, stressful lives. No one ever asked us how our treatments were, and then they tried to over-charge us since we had requested deep-tissue. Neither did we receive a deep tissue massage nor get alerted before we made the change that there was an extra fee for it had we received the services we requested. Overall, I'm sure they can do a good job. However, they did a very poor job of communicating with each other about what their customers wanted, and the massage therapists might want to go back to massage school. I would think it's a pretty good indication you're doing something wrong when you're client is squirming and wincing. Maybe they should pay closer attention to that next time before they charge us $200. read more

My friend and I scheduled two Express Manicures (at a pricey $40 each). We were fine with the price at first, assuming that since the facilities reflected a high-quality experience we would certainly get a fantastic manicure. Our service was good, the manicurist was very nice and our nails were OK...until less than 24 hrs later. Every nail had chipped and then peeled COMPLETELY off. We both experienced the same disappointment when our nails didn't even last a full day. I don't know if it was the product quality or application but whatever it was resulted in the most expensive, poor manicure I've ever had. We would not recommend this spa to anyone and I certainly would not return. read more

I 'm a 72-year old man, a former nurse, from California. I had never had a professional massage, and was a bit leery of it. My wife, who, herself, did not wish to participate, talked me into ordering a one-hour relaxing massage. I am here to tell you..., but, actually, I can think of no words to say.... I believe I had never relaxed like this before. Thinking back, I can only compare the intensity of the experience to one's first love-making. But, of course, the massage is totally non-sexual. Mary Kate proved herself a consummate professional. Nothing was rushed. My questions were answered beforehand. Privacy was respected. I was placed in comfortable positions. Warmth, scents, and soft music were provided. My muscles and mind simply melted under her firm, sensitive hands. The session concluded with the most delicate massage of my fingers, scalp, eyes, lips... (This is almost too intimate to write about.) Then she stepped out of the room, giving me time to dress and contemplate, following which she brought me a glass of cold water, held forward in both hands, in a sacramental manner. (I felt I should drop to my knees.) With a final handshake, I told her that, as a marriage proposal didn't seem to be appropriate, I certainly hoped I would acquire another granddaughter, one to be named Mary Kate! read more
