Of all the units in this shopping centre, the vast majority are either empty or shops that you would never need or want to go into. It's got a Costa Coffee upstairs, a branch of Joy and Edinburgh's only city centre branch of New Look. That's why I gave it 2 Stars, but apart from that the only reason I'd ever come in here would be to hide from the rain or snow. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what the worst thing is about this mall. In joint first place, are the foodcourt and those people who follow you around the ground floor concourse trying to get you to buy their bag of "free" makeup for £40. They literally jump out from behind pillars anf follow you right up to the entrance of whichever shop you're pretending to go into just to get away from them. The foodcourt... possible the most depressing sight you'll ever see. I was cutting through it this morning on my way down to the Waverley station and was the saddest thing I've seen in a long time. If you're old, morbidly obese and have nothing better to do on a weekday morning at 10am (or all of the above), you should get yourself along here and start tucking into your first Big Mac meal of the day - it's apparently what everyone else in your situation does. Unless you love the smell of stale cooking fat, I certainly wouldn't recommend sitting down to eat in here. Aside from it's few saving graces on the top and middle floors, this is easily the worst thing on Princes Street - pigeons included.

Much like Fiona and Amy, I am pretty unimpressed with what the Princes Mall has to offer. It is a unit with so much promise; the first thing most people see when the come out of the huge Waverley train station. It is full of empty shops brandished with signs which promise new and exciting developments coming soon! However, they have been empty for quite a bit and I see no sign of any developments at all. It does have a big New Look which would have been better served out on busy Princes Street, and a JOY store. There is a huge foodcourt serving Harry Ramsden's, KFC and other fast food joints. I hate food courts at the best of times but this one always looks especially depressing, as do the serving staff. The best thing about this shopping centre, if you can call it that, is the Costa Coffee at the top of it, but probably only because you don't actually have to walk through the ugliness of the centre itself. Poor show Edinburgh, poor show.

We headed on in and was agast by the sheer size of the place and it's oh so modern. It's on 3 levels and has a Vue cinema and I hear it has a boat somewhere, not in it I think?! Well it has a shop relating to it anyway. We were there about after 4.30ish on Monday so it was pretty quiet. It looked like it contained the usual high street shops with a few added extras i.e. The Whiskey Shop & Zamboo = a shop selling very weird looking vases. We searched for a food court of some sort but all we came across was what looked like Mitchelin star restaurants. It looked shut but according to the website it's open 'till 10pm. It just wasn't looking like the sort of eating establishment we had in mind, well one with food would've be good for a start. Anyhoo I ain't dissing the place as I only experienced it a little but if I'm ever back out this way I'm sure I'll pop in.

But no, not for me. So many awesome places in Edinburgh and this is not one of them. I only came here to see the Royal Brittania but I got hungry so went to buy fancy wine and enjoy a fabulous afternoon eating seafood instead. Because that's how I roll. This is probably my worst retail nightmare and I'll avoid this place at all costs. There is seriously nothing special about this place, just a whole bunch of chain stores that you could find anywhere else in Edinburgh. Or Scotland. Or purchase items from online.

There is a large Cineworld cinema, Pizza Hut, Nandos, a casino, Virgin Active health club, bars, bingo, bowling alley and a kiddies soft play center. I actually quite like Fountain Park because it is right on my doorstep and it has everything I need for an evening on entertainment. There is a large car park so you can drive here and if you use the cinema or other businesses your car park ticket is validated making the parking free. Free parking in Edinburgh is a bonus! You can go for something to eat and know what to expect in the chain restaurants before heading off to the cinema/bowling alley/casino. It's perhaps not as large as some of the out of town complexes you see in the likes of Glasgow, but it does have everything you need and something for everyone.

Anyway, I feel that this place is largely for the students living around this area as it has a massive Cineworld, a Pizza Hut, a Nando's and a Tenpin bowling alley among its facilities available. The place felt quite empty and depressing the last time I was in and there seemed to be a lot of empty space between the bowling alley and the cinema, with the main concourse functioning as an extended hallway to get between the two. There is an underground car park which is free for the first four hours but if you stay any longer than that, then you will have to pay money for every extra hour you stay there. I did like the bowling alley, and the Pizza Hut was pretty decent when we went to it so I suppose this place serves its purpose with one of the only casual bowling alleys in the Edinburgh area. I hope I will enjoy Cineworld as it seems significantly cheaper than Odeon and Vue.
