First time, they overcharged my card. Second time, they gladly took my cash and took over an hour and a half to make three tacos and the saddest quesadilla, only to have my order sit on the counter for 5 minutes before someone could be bothered to announce my name for pickup. I was standing by the bar the whole time, and the bartender turned her back to me for several more minutes before bothering to acknowledge my existence and give me the food. Just in time for my volleyball match to start. I hate this place. Admittedly, the idea is kind of cool, but it's run like a shitshow. And the employees aren't hostile or anything, but something seems off about them. read more

This isn't Mexican food, so know that. Very cool white sand volleyball courts in the middle of the city with tacos from the grill and a full bar, hell yes. The barbeque guy cooks your meat over on the drill, dresses the tacos and it's all good in the hood. Pretty cheap as well. read more

I really enjoy playing at Wave Taco! The atmosphere there is fun and friendly. I go there to play volleyball games with my boyfriend and friends and to have a good time. The bouncers, bartenders, and the refs are all really nice! I took off a star because even though they have three courts, during draw tournaments with a bunch of teams, they still only use two and so the teams have a lot of down time between matches. Horrible service, terrible tournament planning and they act like YOU are lucky to be there.

Their staff is unfriendly, uncooperative, and they don't know how to treat their customers correctly. I arrived there about an hour and a half before game time. About an hour after my arrival and entry, the unfriendly staff accused me of trying to sneak alcohol in (even though I had nothing with which to sneak alcohol in -- no bag, no purse, just me). In defending myself, we were asked to leave, even though they had no proof -- just your standard "my word against his." When I called in, they were equally unfriendly, further accusing me of this act, which I did not do, stating "if you're trying to sneak in alcohol, we don't want you anyway." I spent $20 on a bucket of beer, which I was not able to drink. and will likely still be charged (you better believe I'll be fighting that charge). And the team -- not even my regular team, I was just trying to help out a friend who was short on players -- had to forfeit their playoff game. Rather than listening to my defense, asking for proof (i.e. why don't you open your bag [that you don't have] and show me what you have in it), or even listening to me talk, which only further upset me, they hurried my friends and me out of the door, insisting that I was a liar, and they were guilty by association. Their management showed poor business skills, and they handled this case terribly. Not only will I never be playing there again (anyone who knows me knows I'm a sand volleyball connoisseur), but I will be encouraging my friends, family, and coworkers to also never never play there again. I have been playing in a volleyball league here, we thought we'd give a new place a shot and this will be my one and only time. The 3 sand courts are pretty nice which is why this is getting 2 stars. However, we have games on work nights and paid a good amount to be in the league and the games have mostly been starting at 6pm during the week. Unfortunately those of us who work full time jobs have had difficulty making it due to the early game times. Also, I figured this place would have some food considering it's called wave taco. But I come to find out that the choices are very limited. Don't go there expecting gourmet tacos, I'm sparing you the disappointment. Not to mention the bathroom situation sucks. Yes, it has nice port-a-johns....but an actual bathroom would be nice, and on many occasions I've seen people walking in and out of these barefoot....cue the vomiting noises! The prices for drinks, while I figured might be less since we paid to play in the league, are terrible as well! If you want to drink, drink before you go, that's what we have chosen to do. I hate to say that I am surprised this place makes enough to stay open, but I guess with as many teams paying what we did and a place not having much to offer, I guess it's not too difficult. Def would recommend playing volleyball elsewhere and will be doing so with my team after this round is over. read more

Wave taco is the bomb! The place is clean, the people are awesome and it is the best sand vb in St. Louis. It's a place for people of all ages and abilities. They have a full service bar and food. The rum buckets get me every time. Although it is downtown, they have ample parking. We love wave taco. read more

Spent the morning at Wave today and even with the heat, my daughter was able to stay well hydrated and fed! The play was great, ranged from hard to super fun! Pulled pork nachos hit the spot at the end of the day and ice cold water was free flowing. The people there were amazing and ran into some old friends (Hi Demi!). Wave taco has some major ups and downs. The courts are great with soft, white sand and play is usually competitive. I would say some of the refs need to learn the rules a little bit more, but I'm not sure if those people are employed by Wave. I would give the volleyball there 5 stars, as it's usually a very fun atmosphere with great music. However, the blonde bartender (I think the owner or owner's wife) tends to majorly dampen the experience every time I've been there and makes me want to give the whole place 0 stars. She seems terribly miserable to be there and treats most customers with an attitude or outright rudely. With usually only two bartenders, it's hard to avoid her. Several people I didn't even know were making comments in passing about how angry she seems. I love playing here, but I wish all the workers (bartender) were more friendly. read more

My favorite place. Come here all the time. Staff is super friendly and have become good friends of ours. Leagues are organized and run well. I'm not that great at volleyball player but I don't feel threatened coming in and playing since they separate the fun/recreational leagues from the advanced players. The first time I visit Wave Taco is coincidentally also my last. My girlfriend and I went to play on our friend's volleyball team who were short on players; so our involvement would have saved them from forfeiting. When we arrived around 7:30-7:45 I had a black gym bag that I offered to show to the bouncer but he waved me in along with my girlfriend and her friend. We immediately went to the bar, my girlfriend paid for a $20 bucket of beer, and we sat down at an empty table while we waited for teammates to show for the 8:50 game. Around 8:20-8:30 a man comes and asks my girlfriend what her name is and continued to accuse her of trying to sneak beer onto the property. We were shocked about it and denied any wrongdoing while he went back to the bouncer to confirm it. He returned a few minutes later and told my girlfriend she needed to leave, also prompting my exit as well. I'm not entirely positive the man was the owner or manager because he never identified himself but he said 2 bouncers (only 1 bouncer was at the entrance when we arrived so that's ridiculous) confirmed a girl with a "tan purse" was the culprit. My girlfriend had no purse, and her ID and money were in MY black gym bag. I was livid. The man asked the bouncer to confirm it was my girlfriend when she came to defend herself, he said he didn't know. The man said he couldn't throw my girlfriend out unless the bouncer knew for sure. The bouncer then confirmed it by saying "I work for him". It was an unbelievable case of mistaken identity and the man and bouncer should be ashamed of themselves. Wave Taco is a cool place to hang out. I play a recreational league with work buddies once a week for fun. It's not overly competitive, which is good for our team because we hardly ever win or care. It's a sand volleyball court, and the nets are kept in good shape. Be careful that sometimes when it's cold, the sand is freezing! There's well-lit parking available on site, which is a definite plus. There's a bar, but they have a very limited selection (think Bud, Bud Light, Bud Light Lime). The game is scored so that every play counts as a point rather than just earned points counting, which makes games fly by. We generally finish a 3 game set in 40 minutes or so. They play Top 40 music through the speaker system, which is cool. I've read in some of these reviews about food, but in my experiences there hasn't been any, and the food trucks are closing up by the time the night leagues arrive. read more
