Four other peoples comments in response to my private post
Teri P.

I originally posted this privately to warn my friends only. As it turns out four different families all got sick on the same weekend from Wave Sushi. This is my original post in the Neighborhood page : OP: "Folks - just a heads up bc I don't want to post this on their public review as yet .... I had Wave Sushi deliver for us this past weekend. We shared family style for 5 people (not much bc we were supposed to go out to eat later) and we ALL 5 got sick that night." Many people ask why I did not write a review or call them. I did call them but they were closed. I wanted to give them an opportunity to address it before I wrote a public review. I finally got in touch with them today and the following happened... "UPDATE I talked a nice lady at Wave Sushi who answered the phone and provided her the information with specifics of us getting sick including order number and items. She asked if she could call me back and went to talk to the chef and manager. She called me back to inform me that the owner, manager, and chef do NOT claim responsibility for this, and "deny it's even a possibility as they only use fresh fish". Their conclusion is that "all five of us must have gotten the flu at exactly the same hour coincidentally after we ate (their) food."" I've eaten there many many times. The food was just ok before, but sometimes we need a break from Mexican food. Now they made us sick and denied it was even a possibility. Oh.... and I paid for faster delivery. It was delivered from ordering to door in maybe 20 minutes. You'd think that was a good thing but it didn't help us here. And it's April - very cool outside at night when I ordered. Attached - what we ordered - four redacted comments responding to my private post

Amazing sushi rolls and friendly wait staff. Been here several times and haven't been disappointed yet. I have several favorites, but have to push myself to try new dishes. Looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommend.

Vegetable Udon Noodle Soup

Went there as I was craving sushi and the employee seated us right away!!! The employee was super nice and even gave us some recommendations to try!! Their Kani salad is superb and their sushi rolls amazing!! The udon was super filling and tasty!! I loved that they included shiitake mushrooms as they have a different umami taste than regular portobello mushrooms other places use!! The service was amazing, staff was welcoming, and the place had so many cute decorations.

Golden Phoenix Roll -So tasty! No sauce needed!

Great place and great food! We can't wait to go back and try more scrumptious food. If you haven't tried it, we recommend you do! Delightful food from the rolls to the dishes and deserts! Next time we will try the Cold Saki Drinks!

Absolutely amazing service our server was so sweet. We had the mango lobster roll and it was the BEST thing we have ever had. Everything was so fresh and good 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

2 rainbow rolls in front, 1 imperial roll in the back

Welcome Wave Sushi to Magnolia. We need to be very patient as they work out the kinks every restaurant has upon opening. I don't think they were expecting such high demand for sushi in our humble town. The front row is actually 2 rainbow rolls and the back row is the imperial roll. I think they mixed the Toppings up but it was very fresh and delicious. I hope they have 2 waitresses next time because we will definitely be returning. Thank you Wave sushi! Congratulations on your grand opening!

Izakaya Wa is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Houston! I usually go to the River Oaks location…read morebut decided to try the Memorial one this time. I came for lunch on a Saturday and it was super busy so the service was a bit slow. It took a while for our water and for our server to come and take our order. I ordered the Lunch Special Nigiri Sushi and Noodle Set and got 6 pieces of salmon nigiri with udon noodle soup. The salmon nigiri was fresh and buttery and so delicious! The serving size of the udon was a lot bigger than I anticipated so I feel like I got my money's worth. I definitely recommend coming for the lunch specials since they're good value.

After being seated, I informed the waiter that I would place a to-go order instead. About 20 minutes later, our food was ready. At that point, our daughter woke up, so we hoped to continue dining in as originally planned. I politely asked the waiter if we could finish our meal there. We didn't expect him to continue serving us--we simply wanted to sit and eat the food we had ordered. I had already tipped him on the to-go order. His response was blunt and shocking: "No, you have to leave. The table was given to someone else for a 7:30 reservation." There was no attempt to find a solution or offer an alternative--just a direct order to leave. This was a Thursday night, the restaurant was not busy, and there were outdoor tables and other seating available. We felt incredibly insulted by the attitude. When we spoke to the manager, he simply repeated that the table was reserved and backed up the waiter, without suggesting another table or even asking us to wait for the next available one, until we brought up the point that he could have asked if we have an option to wait for the next table?? Then the manager went ok do you want to have another table just because we asked. What stood out most wasn't the reservation issue, but the complete lack of hospitality, flexibility, or basic courtesy. This experience spoke volumes about the customer service here, and unfortunately, it's the reason we won't be returning.

The ambiance was top tier - which I wasn't expecting. You can tell a lot of locals dine here. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The menu is quite extensive. I feel there's something for everyone - including children. Because my children have a LIMITED PALETTE! There was nothing appealing for my three year old. However my five year did enjoy a plate of garlic noodles with chopsticks- she is a pro at this point. Yes, they have chopstick helpers for beginners. As for the adults, I had the the Lychee martini (cold and refreshing), spicy soup, two hand rolls (tuna and yellow tail). My husband ordered the Salmon hibachi, and the miso soup (which was fantastic). I will definitely be ordering this next time. He also ordered a specialty roll - don't ask me which one. I can't remember - it was deep fried and he was happy with it. Overall we had a lovely experience here. I look forward to coming back here

We visited this location for a birthday dinner. We did teppenyaki and got steak, salmon, and…read morechicken dinners, along with a Shogun roll and a yellowtail hand roll. I got green tea for a beverage. Finished with a mango sorbet and a mud pie. The meal started with salad with ginger dressing and onion soup. The dressing was fine, and I prefer onion soup to miso, so we were off to a decent start. The teppenyaki show was pretty basic, some fun stuff but not particularly advanced. Shogun's teppenyaki is all seasoned mainly with teriyaki sauce. All of our food was a bit overdone, not a lot but enough to notice. Vegetables were fine. We got the fried rice, which is more fun since it's prepared in front of us, but it was just fried rice and eggs and ended up very sticky. I didn't eat much of mine. The yellowtail roll was ok, the flavor did not jump out but it was good with soy sauce. The sushi was also just OK, the flavors kind of run together. Not a lot of crunch for a crunchy roll. We got our shrimp appetizer last because one of our party had a seafood allergy and they do the shrimp separately if you ask, which is good. The shrimp were prepared just right. The mango sorbet was probably the best thing about the meal. The sorbet is tasty and it's served attractively in a halved mango. I can recommend that. The mud pie is a purchased frozen dessert but it was good. Service was fine, the server was attentive and helpful and the chef did his bit competently. The overall impression I got about the place is that it's tired. The decor is very simple and hasn't been updated in awhile--everthing is brown. The wallpaper was installed some time ago with obvious seams. It is showing wear in several places. The bathroom was reasonably clean but the urinal had flushing difficulty. What the place needs is a makeover, from the decor to the menu to the teppenyaki presentation. It's acceptable but I've had better teppenyaki in several places.

To start the server looked like he was hired "off the streets" and not presentable. Whatever happened to smiling and having a clean appearance. Additionally the drink orders were inconsistently served and we had to ask for items a few times and the "show" hadn't even started. The our chef arrives and I have my 4 grandchildren there and when you bring them you are expecting a bit of a show but our highlight was the "burned face" beginning but failing miserably on the "rice toss" and the disastrous "chop chop train" onion. Has any of the staff been trained? Maybe other tables but ours was pathetic. Sorry guys but facts are facts and even our grandkids don't want to go back!! Food quality was horrid and my salmon wasn't even cooked and I don't believe it is "sushi" grade salmon so I left it for the scrap heap which is where I'm also putting Shogun on my list for future visits.
