First and foremost I would like to say my daughter just completed her 6th season with this studio…read moreand my son just completed his 5th Season, I have seen some great times, some sad times and some down right weird times in these 6 seasons, but always we have come out better people and dancers. This studio has taught both kids but especially my daughter that if you work hard for something it will pay off, she started dancing later than most in her age group and took double classes for years to catch up and dance with her peers. Coming out of this 2015 season SSD won 7 1st Place National Championships. In addition, 2 of these numbers won the Victory Cup at Star Power National Dance Competition. (Victory Cups=Highest scoring number in a specific age category). Star Power Dance Competition is probably the most known dance competition in the WORLD. Yes sometimes we get REALLY loud, sometimes we yell from the seats. I'm sure if your kids danced as many hours and put it all on the stage like mine do you would go crazy for them too. Ms. Melissa produces working dancers. Many students do not like to be told what to do or be disciplined in any manner and those students sometimes move on and become successful working dancers. Their roots cannot be denied. They learned technique from Melissa Stokes at Shooting Stars. We currently have dancers working on cruise ships, Disney, Universal, Magic Dancers, Heat Dancers, Golden Girls at FSU and Dazzlers at UF. Many students have traveled the world dancing after they left the tutelage of Melissa Stokes. This past fall 5 young ladies from our studio won the Good Morning America Taylor Swift "shake it off" contest and were featured on Good Morning America with Taylor Swift! My daughter and her best friend were able to work last Thanksgiving as dancers in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade. Both the Choreographer and the Parade Talent Coordinator commented on their technique and one even recognized them from previous competitions he judged. Very nasty to other dance studios. Way to teach your children good sportsmanship. The owner should be mortified at your behavior. Well back here today and the nasty parents are here as well! The problem is they are sooooo loud that you can't enjoy the performances. My favorite part is the new, custom floors they made to absorb the shock on your knees and hips from leaping and jumping. The instructors are bubbly and fun. As for COVID, everyone was required to wear a mask when they entered and had their temperature checked at the door. The dancers are spaced out during the lesson and are instructed to like up at the bathroom to wash their hands after each class. I watched the barres being sanitized after every class. It was paired with drinks and the not only sang the poems but also had dance and theatre along with it. The cast does everything from setup to passing the drinks and then performing. A great date night, girls night or even a sole day out. They have more than one performance in the day and are doing another performance for infamous serial killers. Worth every penny. You are encouraged to dress the theme and many people did which just added to the overall experience.

That being said, I find Nicole and Lindsey do a great job, especially considering the other studio options around. No studio is perfect, but they make an effort to try and think outside the box in the way they teach the kids. Of course they offer conventional ballet, jazz , hip hop, tap, etc. classes, but they also have the kids doing fun and exciting things that makes them think about dance differently. I teach for this studio every once in a while and I love the kids and their hard work.

I visited for the first time on Wednesday to see Hamilton on its national tour. I was lucky enough to win a front row ticket, so I saw it all as close as possible. The dancing, the singing, all the little details Lin Manuel Miranda inserted into this production is astounding. I laughed, I cried, I clapped, and I cried some more when the 2.5 hour show ended. I did not want to leave the theater. I cannot wait to see Hamilton again one day. As for the theater, this was my first time visiting the Dr Phillips Center and I was in awe. First, Dr Phillips Center is in the middle of Downtown Orlando and there are many great options parking wise close to the theater. I chose to park in the City Commons garage. There was an attendant in front where you pull your ticket to park - $19 with a card or $10 cash. The City Commons garage also connects to a covered walkway that leads you to the theater, just get off on the 3rd floor of the garage. The walk in total is about 6-7 minutes (lol). The theater itself features a large lawn in front, then valet is in front of the doors, then when you walk in, you get the full ambience. It's beautiful in there, so nice and shiny. The box office is immediately to your right as you walk in. There are concession stands on both sides of the building and the merch area was to the right side of the building. The actual theater is huge! Very comfy seats. It was pretty cold inside, so bring a sweater. Again, with the theater being in Downtown Orlando, there is plenty nearby whether it be a bar or sit down restaurant. Several restaurants are within a 10 minute walk. I will be visiting the Dr Phillips Center for a show again in the future, a great time was had.

You can prepay parking, or there is street parking available if you get there early and don't mind a short walk. Taking pictures is not allowed throughout the performance so be mindful. Now that I am retired and I am an empty nester, I called Miss Rolann to register for Adult Ballet and Tap. I didn't even consider choosing anyone else or any other studio for this. I had remembered watching my children in their classes thrive in tap dancing led by the excellence and professionalism that Miss Rolann exhibited. I was always in awe of her talent and patience along with the ability to teach all of her students. I am enrolled currently in Ballet and Tap.
