Came to camp and had a fantastic time. For a cabin getaway, my wife and I can't say enough good about this place. The cozy cabins are full of charm and all essential necessities (heat, A/C, lights, microwave, lots of outlets for charging, and a fridge). It definitely takes "glamping" up a notch if you are looking to capture the atmosphere and enjoyment of camping but like the comfort of indoor sleeping. The owner was very receptive and checked on us frequently, quickly addressing any needs with a pleasant and cheerful attitude. We had seen prior reviews and all I can say to anyone considering this as a weekend getaway, it is perfect and we have absolutely no complaints. From attentive staff to tranquil "Water Edge" scenery, this place is a hidden gem and I will personally return again and again. A few of us used your services this week and although we were very satisfied with your establishment and the Customer service received, we were very disappointed with the amount of garbage, litter and cans along the banks. I asked your workers if they did Daily or even weekly sweeps and they indicated they do not. A week prior, we used Green Acres rental in Indiana. Water's Edge canoe livery is very unprofessional. Their website looks fantastic, but when you get to their disheveled barn cluttered with papers and trash, you'll likely want to reconsider. They don't *really* take any forms of payment other than cash, but they never tell you that... even if you call ahead. When my husband and I arrived without cash, they shoved piles of paper around looking for the "phone" they use to take credit cards. The two seventeen year old boys working there couldn't find it, so I had to give the boss man my credit card number over the phone. Scary, right? But we came to the area to go kayaking, so I did it. The boys loaded up our boats (we brought our own) and we climbed in to their trash-filled van, watching them spit their chew into Gatorade bottles the whole way. It seemed like we were driving kind of far for a 2-4 hour trip (according to their website that's how long it is), but I figured the river just flows fast. We got in the river and began moseying along. We quickly got stuck in inch deep water. I got out and dragged our boats to deeper water, but we promptly got stuck again.... and again.... and again. We spent more time scraping the bottom than floating - not that the canoe livery can control the river depth, but perhaps they could warn travelers that they WILL NOT HAVE A GOOD TIME BECAUSE THERE'S NO WATER IN THE RIVER. After THREE hours of pretty hard paddling, we made it back. Upon arrival, they finally decided to tell us how low the river was and how long the trip takes. They were actually surprised we got back as quickly as we did because "most folks take five hours." Recall, however, that the website claims the trip is done in 2-4 hours. Zac and I are good paddlers; we go out often and for fun and we're good at it. We like kayaking. But when you plan on being out PADDLING (not walking through an inch deep river) for 1 or 2 hours and end up dragging your boat across rocks for three hours, you will not have a good time. Paddlers be warned - six miles on this river is way too far for most casual kayakers or canoers... especially if you are not physically strong or if you have kids or animals with you (which, fortunately, we did not). If this is your first time at this place or youre used to other canoe livery's, the place you pay is NOT where you start. Hopefully you (the customer) sees this prior because the staff there sure as hell won't stop you from going, let alone tell you to wait for the bus to take you to the starting point. Otherwise it's a quarter-mile trek through some poor soul's crop field 3 miles away when you realize it's too late. Have fun! read more

Arrived at 830 for a 900 trip. Left at 10. Arrived at drop off at 1045. Started the trip and was great for the first five miles. Once you hit the 6 mile trip section, it turned into a party feast. Lots of people with alcohol with Waters Edge paddles and a lot with Shawnee Valley paddles. I would recommend doing either a through the week trip or the six miler early in the morning. Next time, we will use Paint Creek Canoe Livery, prices were cheaper and his trip avoids most of the areas where the parties stop on down the river. Altogether, they were very unorganized, lax on their alcohol policy and extremely late on departure times. Plus the last six miles was very rocky and dangerous if you are an inexperienced canker or kayaker. read more

4 stars for being the only canoe livery on Paint Creek. The other reviewer called it a river and complained about it being low. Well, 2012 was very, very dry and a quick glance at the creek could have informed them that they would need to carry. read more

We started out by looking for kayaking tours in the area and came across Water's Edge. They have an excellent website, so it seemed trustworthy at first. We called the day before to make sure we were all good to go and had to call 5 times just for anyone to even answer the phone. They "don't have us down for the trip, but it'll probably be fine." When we arrive, there are some other kayakers there, everyone seems to be hanging out. The guy "in charge" isn't there yet. I'm not sure what was taking so long, considering the business is the back building of his house. When he does finally arrive, it's past the time we were supposed to be starting (9 a.m.). We were told on the phone to arrive 20 minutes before departure, but this was completely unnecessary as we didn't actually begin to kayak till past 10 a.m. After waiting in line for a considerable amount of time, finally getting our life jackets, we're waiting for the "shuttle" to arrive. I had seen some coolers inside while waiting in line and figured we should purchase some bottles of water for the trip, since it's hotter than I initially expected it to be. They have THREE bottles of water available and enough microwaveable meals to feed everyone who's signed up that day. Including a giant tub of pulled pork BBQ. There's about 60 people in our group and it's over 90 degrees outside in the sun. They load the kayaks on the "shuttle" and we all get in. "Shuttle" is in parenthesis because it's just an incredibly old school bus with black spray paint all over it. The other "shuttle" is a full size van with the entire body about to rust off. The van is having issues and needing jumper cables. It won't start. Also, remember there's a ton of people on this bus that has no air ventilation whatsoever. Our driver gets off the bus and they're all yelling across the lot about finding the jumper cables, it's a whole ordeal. Our driver isn't even officially part of Water Edge's. He told us in the parking lot that this is only the second time he's helped out the guy "in charge" in summer. There is no way he had a license to drive this bus. They finally get the jumper cables, the van is running, and we're back in business. That is, until our driver gets back on the bus, which is now not starting. We're laughing at this point, wondering if we'll even get to the drop-off point. After another 5 minutes of trying to get the bus to start, it does, fortunately. As we pull out of the driveway, the driver yells back that if someone could keep an eye on the kayaks to make sure we don't lose any of them, it would be great. Everyone is concerned at this point. The drive is considerably longer than 6 miles, it seemed really far. The whole drive, the metal bar on the bottom of the seat in front of me, is banging into my shin. It's just falling off of the seat, complete with rusty screws sticking out. After a super bouncy, yet terrifying ride through the hills and woods we FINALLY ARRIVE TO KAYAK. Our good moods are back in full swing, we're so ready to do this. Everyone just stands around for a while, not knowing what to do. We just get our kayaks and get in the water. The actual kayaking was great: super hot in the sun, but cool in the shade. The water was a little low, I got stuck about 5 times and had to drag my kayak to get it fixed. But the pace was good and everything went smooth. After it seems to be taking longer than we expected, we began to wonder where the finish point is. We're sure we should've reached it by now. We talk to two other guys who were in our group, who look like they've done this before and they said we had FOUR HOURS LEFT OF THE TRIP. We had already been kayaking for nearly 2. They also tell us that it's not 6 miles, it's more like 9. Those 3 extra miles are a HUGE difference. We didn't put any other sunscreen in the kayak but definitely needed more by the time we were finished. We're burnt to a crisp. Because we didn't plan for an entire day of kayaking, we have to hurry to get back. We power-paddle through this trip just to make it back in a reasonable amount of time. We were the first to finish and it took us 3 hours and we finished way before anybody else did. I thought my arms were going to fall off by the time we pull our kayaks out of the water. Surprisingly, they have people there to help bring the kayaks up, which I probably wasn't going to do anyway after the day we just had. Nobody says anything to you, you just get in your car and leave. Overall, we're lucky that we're the type of people who can just laugh through this situation but I'm sure it was over-the-top miserable for other people. I would NOT suggest going here! read more

I just got my information about the annual SOS (Southern Ohio Survivors) float this year and it will be June 17th and it made me think of what a wonderful event that Waters Edge Canoe Livery sponsers. Not only does the owner donate 100% of the money to SOS most of the other staff volunteer for the day as well. They go above and beyond to help those who need special help getting in and out of the boats which comes as a surprise as most of the workers are teenage boys. It just shows that there is still some people who do still care and there are still some teenage country boys with manners. If you want to get away and spend some time in the "good ole outdoors" this is the place for you. read more
