I have an 18 year old special needs grandson who likes the water but is unable to swim. Do you teach special needs kids? He can be a challenge! How much per lesson and how many lessons per week,

Hi! Waterloo does provide Special Need private lessons for all abilities. Our staff is trained to work with the families to provide quality lessons. We are not a session based program as we do not want to limit the time each child has to learn how…

My daughter loves this swim school. I can't say enough good things about the people who work here…read more Typically, there are fewer than 4 kids per instructor, but the instructors are very good at tailoring instructions and activities to meet the needs of each individual child even when there are four kids. I love that they gently push the kids just outside of their comfort zone. The entire staff is accommodating and friendly. My not-quite-4-year-old kid knows how to swim and a lot about water safety. They practice what to do if you fall in a pool (every class), asking an adult for help (instead of jumping in to help) if someone is having a hard time in the pool, a simulated accident where they jump in fully clothed, etc. When she started, she didn't want water to touch her face, and now she's learning how to take side breaths! All of the instructors are great, but my kiddo has excelled with Ms Michelle, Ms Fulori, and Ms Rayghen. They're AMAZING. To me, learning how to not drown is the most important "extracurricular" skill a kid can learn, and Emler of Anderson Mill seems to believe this as well. An extra bonus to help the community and (I believe) for character building, the school has donation drives for things like socks, school supplies, and swim lessons. The only downsides are: It's very humid on the pool deck because it's an indoor pool in Texas, so I recommend bringing a fan if you don't want to sweat profusely. You could watch through the glass, but that's not as helpful or fun IMO. The changing tables are in the main areas instead of the restrooms. Not an issue for some people, but I prefer privacy. You can get creative for that.

Every person has a place to be. Managers walking around, double confirming and keeping additional sets of eyes on the water. Each teacher following a well defined script, they have thought of everything. We enrolled our son when he was 14 months and are nearly a quarter of the way through the 14 week semester. Each week, he has shown improvements, from ability to hold his breath to moving his legs under water. The instructors keep track of different metrics to make sure each kid continues to get better every week. Our class has 4 other kids, which has been the perfect number. We've been extremally happy with the Water Babies class at Emler.

We explained the concerns and the reasons for frustration. He offered a free assessment session the next week. The assessment session was very thorough. The coach, Michael, was very personable and informative. Robert tapped to Michael afterwards and placed my daughter in properly assessed level. He talked again at length to explain how the school works, who to talk to for information and how to approach him for any concerns. I'm very impressed for the level of care and customer oriented approach. I feel strongly about their commitment to focus on children learning and getting them ready for the swimming skills as fast as possible. I highly recommend this school. I'd recommend to any new parent to approach Robert for any issues. He's very genuine and friendly person.

We…read moreuse the club consistently, follow the policies, and pay a significant amount each month for what is marketed as a premium experience. There are many things I genuinely appreciate about Life Time, particularly the instructors, who have consistently been one of the strongest parts of the club. Unfortunately, my experience with Kids Academy has become increasingly disappointing, and an interaction today brought several longstanding concerns to a head. First, policies need to be communicated and enforced consistently. When something is permitted one day and prohibited the next--or seems to depend on which employee is working--it becomes very difficult for members to understand what is actually expected of them. I am completely willing to follow the rules. I simply expect those rules to be clear, consistent, and communicated respectfully. More concerning was the manner in which my children and I were spoken to today. My children are also members of this club, and regardless of a disagreement or policy issue, I expect employees working with children to communicate with them respectfully. I was extremely disappointed by the tone and demeanor used toward them. This experience is especially troubling because I have already had concerns about what I have personally observed in Kids Academy over time. I have repeatedly seen very young children crying or visibly distressed for extended periods, ignored and wandering desperately seeking caregiver attention, and interactions that, in my opinion, lack the warmth, patience, and attentiveness I would expect from a childcare environment, the lack of genuine care for the children is appalling. This is not up to standard- particularly those associated with what should be a premium family membership. I recognize that this is gym childcare and not a preschool, and my expectations reflect that distinction. However, basic attentiveness, kindness, appropriate supervision, and respectful communication with children should not be considered premium amenities. They should be the minimum standard. There are certainly kind employees in Kids Academy, including some of the younger staff members who have been wonderful with my children. My concern is not intended as a blanket criticism of every person working there. It is that the overall quality and consistency of the childcare experience does not seem aligned with the standard Life Time promotes elsewhere in the club. My children are older and are able to communicate clearly with me about their experiences and advocate for themselves. Based solely on what I have personally observed, I would NOT leave a very young child who cannot yet communicate independently. I don't expect perfection, and one unpleasant interaction would not ordinarily cause me to reconsider a membership I have and one I would like to maintain. But when inconsistent policies, poor customer service, and concerns about the environment in which members' children are being cared for begin to form a pattern, it deserves attention. Life Time charges a premium price and presents itself as a premium club. I believe it is reasonable for members to expect the quality, professionalism, and customer service in Kids Academy to reflect that same standard. After today's experience, I am genuinely questioning whether the value of our membership continues to justify the cost.

Overall I…read moream very happy with our experience and I would consider taking lessons with them again as my kid grows. They are professional, safe, and focused on feasible goals for my kid's age of familiarity and comfort in the water. The teachers were calm and encouraging and worked with the fact that sometimes my kid loved being in the water and other times didn't want to get in. They are very available for calls by phone to work with parents on makeups or questions. I didn't feel able to give a full 5 stars since there are some things the school could improve on. We often had a different instructor each week, which I admit was a bit hard for my kid feeling nervous in front of a new person (the pandemic and being isolated hasn't help with people skills meeting new teachers so I know this is exacerbated to this year). But even besides that, the different teachers often didn't know that my kid was in their class, we would walk up and they would act surprised, oh they are in my class too? I think there could be better communication between the instructors and to the instructors, and a better job encouraging the kids at the start of the lesson (e.g. give us your name at least!) Secondly the temperature of the pool at the Marriott location is inconsistent. Sometimes warm, other times cold. If this could be fixed it would be very helpful for the younger swimmers. I think these are things that could be easily improved on to make the experience even better. Overall I am happy!
