But now I rarely go in and see a stock of hot dogs on the rollers. There was about 4 each type ready to go and pretty fresh. Now I am lucky if I see one fresh one of any flavor. And there is now 1 or 2 on the cooking side still unready. A couple times I have gone recently and the hot dogs were overcooked. The skin was actually starting to wrinkle. I was not impressed. I was hoping it was just the new management getting into the swing of things and it would get better. But now it is reminding me of the Qwik-E-Mart off the simpsons. I just want to be able to go in on the morning rush and actually see food available. I stop in on my way home from work and it's a weird guilty pleasure. A slurpee and a hotdog or 2 with chili and cheese. It isn't looking great. Not sure if they will get it back under control or not. It literally looked like the guy behind the counter was running back and forth cooking stuff one by 1 in the microwave back there as it was ordered. Which causes issues with customer service. Not sure if they are trying to conserve on waste. But if I wanted a microwaved hotdog I would do that myself at home. The point is to be able to grab n go.

This is the kind of small town market in the middle of nowhere you'd only find... in a small town in the middle of nowhere. What employee will you get when you come? There's the elderly gentleman that wears nail polish. There's the 70 year old widow that packs a revolver on her side pocket and calls you "honey." There's the 30 something year old stoner that's obviously done time but has cleaned up his act... a bit. There's the ex con that's straight faced and stays out of trouble. And there's the new girl with tattoos that's young but calls you sweetie like an old school diner waitress. Selection? All the beer. Lots of snacks. And everything in between. Not only is this usually your only choice in philomath, it's also probably your best choice. Besides the usual, do you need the exotic? It's a way long distance to the next nearest fuel if you don't have a Pacific Pride card or the ability to use commercial fuel services. Not such a huge deal anymore with the big Harleys having 5+ gallon fuel tanks and better mileage motors. But 30+ years ago, 100 or so miles was about the range of the average chopper which, "conveniently" was the distance from the Shell station in Estacada to Detroit. All gone now :( The wildfire that swept through Mill City, Gates and Detroit took out many homes and businesses, this store among them. I hope they are able to rebuild but even if they do, it will never be the same.

My husband and I went into Circle K tonight after driving in late from Portland with 5 tired kids…read moreand no groceries. Circle K was open so we decided to go see what they had that could tide us over. When we got there I had forgotten my mask. So my husband went in to buy some disposable masks but after asking the store clerk, who double checked to make sure they were indeed out, he apologized and told us he had none left in stock. I eventually jimmied a mask out of my husbands undershirt and went in. He apologized to me for being out of masks and we went on our way shopping. I asked if they had any baskets, and although I'm sure he must have known they didn't supply baskets, he made the effort to quickly scan his surroundings for anything he could have offered me. He again apologized and we finished the rest of our shopping. When we went to check out there was a costumer in front of us and the clerk was just finishing bagging his items. The customer happened to be missing his right hand but clearly was adept to living without it. As the store clerk slid the bag towards him he warned that the bags were VERY delicate and to be careful while lifting. Unfortunately even with him being super gentle with the bag it tore slightly. The clerk quickly got him a new bag and transferred the items over and then lifted the bag and said "I can just take it out to the car with you?" The customer accepted his help and thanked him. The clerk comes back in and rings up our groceries and we joke about the bags again. He then again offered his help with the bags and we were happy to have it. It was just such a pleasant experience and one I don't see often. Not only did they have a great selection but I experienced and witnessed some of the best customer service I've seen in a LONG time. This kid (the store clerk) who was working at circle K at 11:30pm, wearing a thrasher sweatshirt was so genuine and his desire to help was so clear and sincere. I didn't get his name or pay attention to his name tag but I wanted to acknowledge him in some way, either to his boss or to him, how much I appreciated my experience there tonight and to say thank you.
