The landscape opens up beautifully as you approach, and by the time you pull in, you're already in the right headspace for a great afternoon. Lakeside Park sits on the southern shore of Lake Winnebago, and the moment you step in, you understand why locals love it so much. Mindtrip The Lighthouse This was the highlight of our visit. The lighthouse is the city's signature attraction and most photographed structure in town -- built in 1933, with a flagstone base and a wooden staircase that winds up through the tower to a 40-foot observation deck. We walked all the way to the top and the views over the park and lake were stunning. It's free and open for self-guided tours from May through October 15, dawn to dusk. No excuses not to climb it. Fond du Lac Fond du Lac What's waiting for your next visit We only scratched the surface -- next time we're coming back to explore the full park. There's so much more: Vintage miniature train rides & antique carousel Petting zoo Multiple playgrounds including an all-access area Splash pad Volleyball, softball, picnic shelters Kayak/canoe rentals & full marina Flower gardens & color-changing fountain Paved walking paths along the lake Many features are completely free -- the lighthouse climb, petting zoo, and playgrounds -- making this one of the best bang-for-zero-bucks stops in Wisconsin. Mindtrip It's beautiful in scenery -- the trees, waterways, bridges, and the lighthouse overlooking Lake Winnebago all come together in a way that feels genuinely special. We'll be back to do the full loop around the park. Fond du Lac, you surprised us.

The playground is accessible so that means lots of stuff that even little able-bodied kids can do without help. The zip lines were a big hit, and I appreciated that I didn't have to lift anyone up like at say the Woodside school playground. Kids also liked the accessible merry-go-round which they described as being like the trains in Ba Sing Se (if your kids haven't watched The Legend of Korra, watch it with them). Otherwise the equipment is all newer designs that I haven't seen elsewhere, so it should be new and exciting for your kids. It can get crowded, especially when it's warm. It's outside, but no one was wearing masks during COVID-19, so be safe out there. There's also a combination tennis court/basketball court there, and an adjacent disc golf course in the Village Park proper. So definitely worth a stop if you're in the area with kids and need them to burn off some energy. It's one of the nicest I've seen in a long while, so if you're a connoisseur it might be worth a long detour.

I don't think I've seen an overflowing garbage can (except during a concert once in a while) and litter is rarely spotted. The Friends of Humboldt Park plant and maintain a pollinator flower bed, a special bonus in our neighborhood park. My schedule hasn't allowed me to catch any of the Tuesday night concerts yet this season, but I went multiple times last year and enjoyed the variety of acts. The playground is small (compared to South Shore, for example) but in good condition with a nice variety of equipment, some especially nice for smaller kiddoes.

It's been quite some time since we've visited Lake Park, but I absolutely love it here! We were actually kicking ourselves that we don't come here more often to enjoy nature, as it really is beautiful in all seasons. There is no shortage of trails, short or long, that wind through the park and dip down into the ravines. This includes stairs and some rockier walk ways that lead out to the lakefront. If you prefer to stay on the flat road, you can enjoy the well-paved paths by foot or by bike. We had our stroller along and were able to push it throughout. You'll pass by a golf course, the fancy Lake Park Bistro restaurant, lawn bowling greens, statues, and even the infamous Milwaukee light house. Looking forward to the summertime in hopes that the weekly concert series returns to this park, in addition to the traveling beer garden. My son should be walking soon enough, so we'll no doubt return to let him run free and get some fresh air, while we enjoy views of the lake!

And I thought "nice! $3 (per child) well spent." Main attractions for my children included a little playhouse (where they probably spent most of their time) and of course a huge ball pit. They technically don't allow kids under 3 in the ball pit but since there weren't many kids around didn't seem to mind my 2 yr old was there. Then again I understand the age requirement because having to recuse him from the balls over and over again proved to be annoying. So when a friend put together a play date here, I cried out "Sign me up!" And boy we were not disappointed. The park actually has several sections to it -- two toddler/infant playgrounds that were gated. (We didn't spend any time here so I can't comment.) It has a baseball field and then the big playground, which is where we spent time. As a mom, I appreciated the picnic benches in the shade as well as clean (yes CLEAN) bathrooms. The playground was impressive. There were a huge merry-go-round with ropes you could climb up as well. It was pretty freaking cool! And you don't see those things that often anymore. Which makes me sad and makes me old all at the same time. But the killer was the slide/fort monstrosity that any kid would go ape over. You just gotta check out the photo for yourself. There are two incredibly long curly cue slides. My kids could have run up and slid down all day. But then the structure is made like a fort with a full deck at the top. And it's covered so no one gets sunburned. Kids banded together and before I knew it, there were about ten boys playing pirates. I felt like I was watching a rendition of Lord of the Flies but thankfully everyone survived. This park is worth a little drive to wear out the kids!
