When the technician arrived, he did not initially inspect or attempt to unclog the sink. Instead, he immediately went into our crawl space and, after approximately 15 minutes, returned with a quote of $27,000 to replace plumbing underneath our home.
We were stunned and declined. The technician then began reducing the scope and price, almost like negotiating with a used-car salesman. We eventually agreed to approximately $5,400 to replace up to 35 feet of galvanized water piping with PEX and replace bathroom ABS drain piping.
Afterward, I contacted other plumbers and learned that we were paying at the high end for this type of work. When I attempted to cancel, Harts informed me that because we had signed the contract, we were locked in.
What disappointed me most, however, was the quality of workmanship and lack of attention to detail.
After the crew completed the job and left, I turned on the bathroom sink--the very reason I had called them--and it still would not drain! The original technician returned and indicated that the crew had not followed his instructions. They had to schedule another visit three days later to finally resolve the issue.
Additionally, faucet aerators throughout our home became clogged with debris following the work, requiring us to remove and clean them ourselves. For nearly $5,400, I would expect a plumbing company to verify that everything was functioning properly before leaving.
Since the repairs, we have also experienced increasingly frequent gurgling in our sinks when running the dishwasher, in our bathtub and shower when running the washing machine, and occasionally when flushing the toilet. These symptoms raise concerns about a possible unresolved drainage or venting issue.
When I recently contacted Harts about these ongoing problems, I was told I would have to pay another service fee for them to investigate because they did not consider the issues related to their previous work.
My biggest complaint is not simply the high price--it is that the quality of service, communication, and follow-through did not justify what we paid. The original problem was not resolved on the first visit, basic fixture checks appeared to have been overlooked, and now we are experiencing additional plumbing problems that the company is unwilling to investigate without another charge.
I understand that quality plumbing work can be expensive, and I am willing to pay for it. However, premium pricing should come with premium workmanship and customer service, and that was not my experience with Harts Services.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. I strongly encourage homeowners to obtain multiple estimates and consider smaller, reputable local plumbing companies before committing to expensive repairs
